"Hold her hand at all times, don't let her wander off by herself and-''
''Dude! Shut up!" Ricky laughed, buttoning up his coat. Today he and Cassidee were going out to the movies and the toy store while I stayed home planning a surprise for Cassidee.
''Hey, that's my kid and I want to make sure she's safe.''
''I won't let anything happen to her. I promise.'' I kneeled to Cassidee's height and straightened out her jacket a little.
''Be good and I hope you have loads of fun today.'' I smiled, kissing her cheek.
''I will! Can we go now?" She asked, tugging on Ricky's hand.
''Yes, come on.'' They walked out the door and I headed upstairs to the spare bedroom, opening the door. Everything that I had in this room was now packed in boxes and moved into the garage, this was going to be Cassidee's room. I laid the blue tarp down on the floor and unscrewed the can of paint and got to work.
Forty-five minutes later I smiled at my work and started to clean up a little bit. I took out some wallpaper border and placed it on the walls, making sure it was nice and secure. I folded up the tarp and rearranged the furniture in her room. I made up her bed and placed the rug on the floor.
I have a feeling Cassidee is going to like this. I closed the door and walked downstairs to the kitchen to clean out the paintbrushes and wash my hands. I sat down on the couch, propping up my feet, and put my attention on the TV in front of me.
''We're home!" Ricky yelled, walking through the door.
''Hey, you two.'' I smiled, turning my head. Cassidee ran over to me and jumped into my lap, hugging me. ''I missed you.''
''I missed you too! Daddy, I have to show you the new toys I got!" She smiled, arms still around my neck.
''I'd love to see them. Let me pay you back for what you bought her.'' I said, looking at Ricky.
''No. Don't worry about it, it's no problem.'' I laughed a little and nodded my head.
''Okay, okay. Well, do I have a surprise for you.''
''What?" Cassidee smiled, looking into my eyes. I got up and carried her up the steps, stopping at her bedroom door. I set her down on her feet and opened up the door. She gasped when she saw the room and ran in, jumping on her bed.
''Wow! It looks awesome in here.'' Ricky looked around the room. Cassidee's room was a light purple with a Hello Kitty bed, Hello Kitty wallpaper, and rug. She had small white curtains on her window and a small white table with a small Hello Kitty lamp.
''How do you like it, Cass?"
''I HAVE A BED!'' Cassidee giggled, rolling around it. Ricky looked over at me and raised his eyebrows. Four years old and she never had a bed to herself. My heart broke into a thousand pieces.
''Yeah! Do you like it?" I smiled, walking in.
''I LOVE IT!''
''Glad to hear.'' I walked out of the room, going into the mine, and sat on the bed. I put my head into my hands sighed, looking down at the floor.
''Are you ok?" I looked up and saw Ricky standing in the doorway.
''Yeah, just..that got to me. I-I never knew she didn't have a bed.''
''Well, now she has one.''
''Yeah.'' I smiled towards the doorway as I heard Cassidee giggling.
