"Chris, why don't you get some sleep, it's almost five in the morning.'' Sabrina yawned, walking downstairs.

''I can't sleep knowing my daughter is out there with her crazy ass mother!''

I sat in the living room, on the couch all evening, not moving an inch. I stayed close by the phone and kept the news channels on all night, making sure I didn't miss anything about Cassidee's whereabouts.

''I think you'd feel better if you just slept for a few hours.'' She said, sitting beside me.

''What if I fall asleep and she calls?"

''That's why I'm going to be awake, so you go upstairs and get some sleep.''

I was in no mood to argue with her so I got up and slowly walked over to the steps. The phone started ringing and I ran over to the coffee table, picking it up and answering it.

''Hello??''

''Chris, it's Samantha.''

''You bitch! Bring me back my da-''

''First off, you bring me money, and then maybe I'll let you have Cassidee back.''

''How much do you want?"

''Two-hundred in cash.''

''Fine. Where are you.''

''Philadelphia, Motel 6 parking lot, room five.''

''Fine.''

''Oh! And if you bring the cops, Cassidee gets hurt.'' I hung up the phone and bolted out the door with Sabrina close behind.

''Call the cops, tell them what just happened. She's not going to hurt Cassidee, not while I'm around.'' We got in the car and tore out of the driveway, heading to Philadelphia.

Sabrina and I arrived in Philadelphia around in the afternoon and we were looking for a nearby Motel 6. The cops had followed along with us but stayed back a few good feet. I pulled into the parking lot and got out, walking up to the door with the number five on it.

"Do you got the money?" Samatha asked, barely opening the door.

''Yes, it's in my wallet. I'm not giving it to you until you let me see my daughter.'' She opened the door and I walked in to see Cassidee asleep on the bed.

''Don't touch her. Give me my money.''

''No! I want Cassidee awake and in my arms, before I hand you this money.''

Samantha rolled her eyes and walked over, jabbing Cassidee in the arm. ''Wake up, come on.''

Cassidee sat up, rubbing her eyes, and smiled when she saw me. "Daddy!" She attempted to run over to me, but Samantha grabbed her by the back of her shirt, yanking her back.

''Let her go.''

''Give me my money!" I pulled out my wallet and threw two one hundred dollar bills at her feet. She bent over and picked up the money. I looked at Cassidee and mouthed ''Come here'' to her.

Cassidee went to move her foot to start walking, but she was grabbed by Samantha.

''Don't you move! Do you hear me?!'' She yelled in her face, tightening the grip on her little arms.

''I gave you your money, now let me have my daughter back.''

''No!"

''Samantha, plea-'' I stopped talking when I saw her pull out a gun and hold it to Cassidee's head.

''She's mine! I should've never given her back to you in the first place! What was I thinking?!"

''You were thinking of what was best for Cassidee, you said it yourself in court. You wanted to get her out of that situation while you got help.'' I walked over towards them, opening my hand.

''Stay away from me!"

''Give me the gun and let Cassidee go. Samantha, she's happy living with me and at least you know she's with someone safe instead of a foster home or orphanage.''

''Samantha Esperzino?'' A male asked, knocking at the door. ''This is the police, open up.''

''You son of a bitch you called the cops!" She clicked down on the trigger and aimed the gun at me.

''OPEN UP!"

''Samantha, it's over.''

''Go to hell!"

The next thing I knew was I heard a gunshot and I dropped to my knees, falling over. My breathing became labored and my surroundings were becoming fuzzy. The last thing I heard was yelling and someone screaming my name. After that everything became pitch black.
