After Cassidee and I had that little discussion about her dream, I picked her up from the bunk and carried her to the front of the bus. The rest of the guys were there too, so no doubt this was going to be awkward. As if it wasn't enough already.
"Dude, I think she's capable of walking." Ryan chuckled once he noticed us.
I set Cassidee down on her feet and plopped myself down next to him. "Come here you." I smiled at Cassidee.
She smiled walking over to me and crawled right into my lap, like a small kitten. She placed her small fingers to my lip and played with my lip piercings.
"What are these?" She asked, studying them intently.
"Piercings."
"Why you have dem?"
"Because they make you look cool!" Ricky said joining in, pointing to his lower lip. "See, I have them too."
"I wanna be cool! Can I have piercings?"
I smiled at her mispronounced language and shook my head. "When you're older."
"But I'm a big girl!"
"I know, but piercings hurt and I don't want you to hurt."
"Just let her get earrings. I don't see the problem in getting her ears pierced." Josh chimed in.
"Of course you would recommend getting her ears pierced. What do ya' say, Cass? You want your ears pierced?" I smiled at her.
Cassidee violently shook her head, smiling. I placed both of my hands on each side to stop her from shaking it. Headbang material.
"I hate to break up the little party here, but we're in Indiana now," Ryan said looking out the window.
"We better get ready," Ricky said getting up and walking to the back. I set Cassidee on the empty spot of the couch and got up, following Ricky.
"Uh, Chris?" Devin asked. I quickly turned around and saw Cassidee, holding herself and in hysterics. Crying.
"What's wrong?!" I rushed over kneeling in front of her.
"You w-were leaving!" She cried. I wrapped my arms around her tiny figure, picking her up, and carried her back to my bunk. I set her down in it and pushed the hair out of her face.
"I wasn't leaving you. I just have to get ready to perform music, I wouldn't leave you. Ever." I smiled using the pad of my thumb to wipe her tears. "No more tears, okay?"
She nodded her head and crawled under the bunks' covers. I pulled out my makeup kit and stood in front of the mirror applying it.
"Who's going to watch her while we perform?" Josh asked, putting in his contact.
I haven't thought that one over quite yet. I have no clue who could keep an eye on Cassidee during the show.
"I didn't even think about that. Who could do it?" I asked.
"Ask one of the stage crew to watch her. I'm sure they wouldn't mind, she's not a loose cannon or anything."
"No, she's a good kid, but with a rough past."
"What's that mean?" Ryan questioned.
I stopped applying my makeup, slightly turning, looking at the curtain, and then back to my bandmates. "I think something happened to her before she got here," I said in a hushed voice.
"Like?"
"I don't know. She hasn't said anything, well except that 'bad people' were going after her and her mother in a dream. Plus, you saw what happened when I left the room, she freaked out and thought I was leaving. I could be one hundred percent wrong, but I just have a strange feeling."
I continued with my makeup and straightened my hair a little once I was finished. I pulled my bunk curtain to the side and saw Cassidee was knocked out, fast asleep.
"Are you sure the poor kid doesn't have narcolepsy? She sleeps at the drop of a hat!" Ricky chuckled.
I rolled my eyes at him and lightly tapped Cassidee on the shoulder. "Cass?" She rolled over on her back, rubbing her eyes, and looked at me like I had three heads.
"We have to go perform now, you get to come along too." I smiled, lifting her out of the bunk. "A friend is going to watch you."
I set her down on her feet, taking her hand in my mind, and lead the rest of us off the bus, heading to the concert venue. We walked to the back doors, where the security guard opened the door, but shortly stopped me when he noticed Cassidee.
"She can't go back there." He said hand extended.
"Why not? We have someone that'll watch her." I replied.
"I've never seen the child before."
I was getting extremely irritated with this guy. All he had to do was open the doors and let us in to go and get ready. Not interrogate me.
"She's my daughter and if you won't let her in then I'm not going in."
"Dude!" Angelo shouted from the back.
"I-I didn't know you had a daughter, Chris. I'm sorry." He stepped to the side, letting us walk in, and didn't say another word. We walked upstairs, heading backstage as the shouts and screams of fans became much louder. Cassidee gripped tighter to my hand as we got closer and closer.
"Guys, you're on in a few minutes and a small child is holding Chris's hand!" Our crew member Eric freaked.
"Yeah, long story. Could you watch her while we're performing? She's not a hassle." I said.
"Uh, yeah, sure? She doesn't need to be changed, right?"
I rolled my eyes at him, grabbing my microphone. "I'm positive she's capable of using the restroom, just don't let her go by herself." I kneeled to Cassidee's height, smiling, and gave her a quick hug. "Cassidee, be good, okay? We won't be long and stay by Eric's side, okay?"
She nodded her head smiling and held onto Eric's hand. The curtain opened up, as Eric and Cassidee stepped off to the side and we started the show with 'Burned At Both Ends.' I just hope Cassidee can handle all this noise.
