Three Months Later

Sabrina, the kids, and I walked up the steps to the door and knocked, patiently waiting for it to open up. My mom smiled when she saw us and pulled us in, one by one for a tight hug.

''Hey, guys! Dinner is almost ready, come in and make yourselves comfortable.''

''Don't mind if I do.'' Cassidee smiled, walking in. She met up with some of our relatives and right off the bat started a conversation with them.

I took off Mason's coat and handed it to my mom, who hung it in the closet. I picked him up and walked into the dining room with him, joining the rest of the family.

''I heard this one has taken a liking to preschool.'' My mom smiled.

''Surprisingly, he does like it,'' Sabrina said, sitting at the table. ''The first day was scary, but he liked it.''

''That's good. Cassidee, how's school going?"

''It's okay.''

I smiled as I looked at my family sitting around the table, laughing and smiling. These are the moments that I love and truly am thankful for.

''I'm proud of you.'' My mom whispered in my ear.

''Huh?'' I asked, leaning in.

''I'm proud of you, very proud. A few years back you had just taken Cassidee in and you gave her a home and a loving, caring family. Now you're a married man with a daughter and a son. I'm proud and happy at how far you've come and I can't wait to see what comes in the later years.''

''I can't wait to see what the later years bring too. Whatever comes my way I'll be ready.''
