We've been home from the hospital for a few days now and Sabrina hasn't helped once with Mason. She goes to bed, gets up, and does whatever she wants while I take care of two kids.''Okay, we need to have a serious talk,'' I said, walking in the living room after putting Mason down for a nap.
''About what?"
''You know exactly what!" I hissed. ''We've been home for the past few days and you haven't lifted a damn finger to help with your son.''
''Oh.''
''That's it? What the hell is your problem?"
''I don't know, it's just hard!"
''Hard?! The only one it's being hard for is me! You flipped on me for getting you pregnant and said it takes two to make a child, well it also takes two to help raise him too! You're a mother now so why don't you start acting like it. I don't even know why I'm arguing with you about this.'' I said, walking upstairs.
"Chris!"
''Whatever.'' I walked into the bedroom and grabbed a bag, throwing my stuff in it. I walked out to Cassidee's room and pulled out one of her suitcases.
''Dad, what are you doing?" She asked.
''We're going to grandma's.''
''Will you just listen to me dammit!" Sabrina said, standing by the door.
''Why should I? I don't want to hear no more excuses!"
''STOP FIGHTING!" Cassidee yelled, standing on top of her bed. ''JUST STOP IT!" She yelled as tears started running down her face.
''Cassidee,'' I said, picking her up and hugging her tightly.
''S-stop fighting. I-I don't want you tw-two to le-leave me.''
''Cassidee, we are not going to leave you,'' Sabrina said, sitting on her bed. ''I promise you that.''
''Promise?"
''I promise.''
I set Cassidee down on her bed and wiped away the tears from her face. I looked over at Sabrina and let out a heavy sigh.
''Come on, let's talk in the other room,'' I said, walking back into the bedroom, Sabrina following shortly after.
I closed the door and sat down on the edge of the bed, Sabrina sitting next to me.
''Why haven't you been interacting with Mason?''
''I'm anxious, scared. I thought I was ready to be a mom, but I don't think I am. I feel so terrible!" She covered her face and started to sob.
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and held her close. ''You love Mason, right?"
''Of course! I carried him for nine months, he's a part of me.''
''Even though we didn't plan this?"
''Yes.''
''Then you're ready to be a mom.''
''Huh?"
''It's normal to be scared, Sabrina. Every first-time parent is. Hell, even I was and Cassidee was already four years old! You carried Mason for nine months, gave him life, you're ready to be a mom. Believe me, I was just as scared when we brought him home for the first night.''
''How'd you become to be so strong?"
''It's what being a father is about. Trust me, you'll start to get the hang of it.''
''Yeah.'' She said, smiling a little bit.
''No more fear?''
''No more fear.''
