Chapter Seven

"Mr Mathers, we have the results on your girlfriend's condition." The nurse said, and I quickly stood up.

"Is she okay?" I asked, and she nodded.

"Kori's awake right now, and seems to be accurately responsive. She has a mild concussion, her left wrist is sprained, and her left cheekbone is fractured. There's major bruising, but other than that, she'll be okay. We're going to keep her overnight for observation, but by noon tomorrow she should be able to go home." The nurse stated, and I nodded.

The nurse brought me to Kori's room, and I went straight inside. Kori looked up at me, and smiled painfully.

"Who the fuck did this to you?" I asked, and she sighed.

"Ashton. He was mad when he came home from work today. He seen the duffle bags on the couch, and thought they were Hailie's. He got even more pissed, especially when I said they were Marcela's. He said some pretty mean shit about them, so I yelled at him. He got pissed about that, and then beat the shit out of me." She replied, and I shook my head.

"That fucking bastard. Look, I'm going to go to Proof's and bring the girls to come see you. They're worried about you, and he's taking care of them for me." I said, and she nodded.

"Be careful. You don't need to be in the hospital with me." She joked, and I smirked.

"Be surprised if you don't see Ashton in the fucking morgue." I replied, before walking out of her room.

I quickly made my way to my car, before driving to Proof's house. I jumped out my truck and went right inside, seeing all five of Proof's kids, his wife and the girls.

"Daddy!" Hailie exclaimed, seeing me first.

"Marshall!" Lainie, Emi and Marcela exclaimed, as all four of them ran over and hugged me.

"Hey girls." I replied, as I held them to me.

"How's Kori?" Sharonda, Proof's wife, asked, and I sighed.

"She's awake. They said she has a mild concussion, sprained wrist and fractured cheekbone. They also said she has major bruising, but no stitches or anything were needed." I replied, and everyone nodded.

"Who did that to her?" Proof asked, and I bit my lip.

I motioned him to come over, before I whispered Ashton's name into his ear. His features hardened quickly, before he whispered it to Sharonda. She shook her head, as she pursed her lips.

"That asshole. He's getting what's coming to him, right?" Sharonda asked, and I nodded.

"Yeah, tomorrow, once I get Kori home. She's got to stay over night for observation." I replied, and she smiled slightly.

"How about we all go and surprise her?" Proof asked, and Sharonda nodded.

"I'll bring her some clothes for tomorrow, as well as a few other things." Sharonda said, before walking over, calling her kids to follow.

"She kept the girls occupied. Her and all the kids went shopping and bought balloons and stuffed animals, then everyone made cards. Sharonda made brownies, and I went by her house and cleaned up the blood while they were shopping. I also bought her a new phone, once I seen hers was in pretty bad shape after the altercation." Proof stated, and I nodded.

"She'll love that." I commented, and he smiled slightly.

Sharonda and all the kids came back with their arms full, before everyone loaded into their vehicles. We drove to the hospital, before we grabbed all of the gifts and such out of our vehicles. We headed inside, and I seen the same nurse who had been my informant. She gasped and grinned when she seen me with everyone around me.

"Wow, she's going to be shocked. Who's all here, so I can write name tags." The nurse asked, and I took a quick breath.

"This is my brother, DeShaun, and his wife Sharonda. They're really good friends with Kori. These are their kids, Nassan, Elijah, Nyeem, Kativa and DeShaun jr. Finally, these are our girls, Marcela, Emi, Hailie and Lainie." I replied, and the nurse nodded.

She quickly made name tags and handed them out, before letting us go to Kori's room. We walked to her room, before I walked in first.

"Hey Kori, I brought some guests." I stated, before I ushered everyone in.

"Jesus, Marshall. I was only expecting the girls. You brought a whole army of children and three adults. How did you two handle nine kids?" She asked shocked, and Sharonda laughed.

"It wasn't that hard. The kids occupied themselves for the most part, though I did have them do something special. Oh, and I brought you a pair of my clothes you can have, so you'll have a change of clothes for tomorrow." Sharonda replied, and Kori smiled.

One at a time, after Proof spoke up, each kid handed Kori a stuffed animal, tied a balloon to the bed, and handed her a homemade card. She smiled and thanked each kid, taking time to read each card and giving each kid a hug. Then Sharonda gave her a bowl full of brownies, which she grinned and thanked Sharonda a lot, letting her know brownies were her favorite.

"I cleaned up the blood at your house while you were here, but I also got you something, since yours was in terrible shape when I seen it on your floor." Proof stated, before handing her a brand new phone.

"Jesus, you didn't have to buy me a phone. Thank you so much." She gushed, as she hugged both Sharonda and Proof.

"No problem. Anything to help a friend." Proof replied, making her smile again.

"Oh, I got you these while I was out." I said, before handing her a big bag of Trollis.

"These are my favorite. How'd you know?" She asked, and I smirked.

"Marcela and Emi told me a lot on our way up here." I replied, and she laughed.

I was glad she was feeling better, I didn't want her feeling bad after what happened today...
