Marshall dropped the girls off quite early this morning, but he didn't seem like he was in a good mood today. Of course, I didn't pry him because I didn't want him to get even more angry. I just hoped he'd be happier when he got the girls back this afternoon. Anyhow, after setting the girls up with watching the tv, I began to make lunch. As I was finding pots and pans, as well as ingredients, I heard little foot steps enter the kitchen.
"Kori, can I help you cook?" Lanie asked, and I smiled.
"Well, of course you can. Just wash your hands real quick." I replied, and she nodded.
She walked over to the kitchen sink and began to wash her hands. Once she was done, I allowed her to start opening cheese, as I buttered bread. I was making grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch. Normally Marshall would be on time for lunch, but he had texted me saying he'd be in the studio later than he planned. Of course, with that being said, I knew I didn't need to fix him lunch.
"Does Daddy need some too?" Lanie asked, and I shook my head.
"No, he's staying late at the studio." I replied, and she sighed.
"Okay." She mumbled, and I bit my lip.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" I asked, and she looked at me with sad eyes.
"Daddy was mad this morning at Mom. He was yelling at her. I don't know why though. I wanted to make him a surprise for when he came for lunch, but now he's not." She answered, and I smiled slightly.
"Well, how about we make him something special? Brownies, cookies, cupcakes, ya know?" I commented, and she nodded excitedly.
"He loves cupcakes!" She exclaimed, and I laughed.
"Alright, we'll make him some cupcakes, and I'll let you guys decorate them for him." I said, and she grinned.
Once the food was ready, I had Lanie, Hailie, Emi, and Cela come sit and eat. As we ate, I tried to figure out what Marshall could possibly be fighting about with Kim. I mean, I know it really wasn't none of my business, but if the girls were upset, it turned into my business.
"Girls, we're going to make cupcakes for Marshall, alright? Now, I only need two helpers while I'm cooking, but you all will help decorate them when they're done." I stated, and they nodded.
Cela and Lanie agreed to helping me make the cupcakes, which made the process go by faster. We made chocolate cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes, just to make sure we had both flavors. I made sixteen of each, so the girls could decorate three of each kind, as well as have one of each kind to eat themselves. Cela helped me place them on the table, as Lanie grabbed the icing and supplies and put it on the table as well. I then walked into the living room to get Emi and Hailie.
"Alright, there's four cupcakes of both kinds in front of you. You get one white and one chocolate that you can eat yourself, and the other three of both colors will be for Marshall." I said, and they nodded.
They decorated cupcakes for about an hour, making sure they looked perfect. I had to help Emi a bit, but they did wonderful pretty much by themselves. They are their cupcakes, before I gave them treat boxes to write on. They wrote their name, as well as Marshall's, before I placed the cupcakes in each treat box. I placed the treat boxes on the counter top, before I began to clean up their mess.
As I was finishing up, I heard the front door open. I quickly looked up and seen Marshall walk inside. The girls seen him as well, before three of them jumped up and ran to hug them, Cela deciding to stay seated on the couch. Since she didn't move, he went over to her and wrapped her in a hug. She laughed and hugged him back, before he stood up straight again.
"Girls! Boxes!" I exclaimed, before they ran into the kitchen, causing Marshall to look confused.
"Come sit down!" Lanie exclaimed, and Marshall quickly obliged.
Once he was sat down, all four girls took turns giving Marshall their treat box they had made for him. He looked at each one, as well as each cupcake, before smiling at the girls. He then gave each girl a hug and a kiss on the cheek, before they went back to watch t.v.
"What was this for?" He asked, and I sighed.
"Well, Lanie told me you and Kim had been fighting. She wanted to make you happy, so I suggested a dessert, and she said your favorite thing was cupcakes. I hope you don't mind me asking, but why were you and Kim fighting?" I asked, and he sighed.
"Over the girls. She wants custody, which is absolutely not fucking happening. She has a damn kid with someone else, and she can't even take care of her. I've already told her, if she keeps on fighting me over this, I'm taking the girls forever." Marshall stated, and I bit my lip.
"Well, I'm always here if you need me. I can watch the girls for however long you need." I commented, and he smiled.
"You really are a lifesaver sometimes Kori. I-I'm actually getting temporary custody over Kim's daughter Whitney. Kim was caught high off her ass, and the police decided to put Whitney in my custody as of tomorrow. That's why Kim and I were arguing most this morning. I hope you don't mind, Whitney is only a year old." Marshall said, and I smiled slightly.
"I don't mind, Marshall. I'm more than happy to watch Whitney as well. Like I said, I'll always be here for you." I replied, and he sighed in relief.
I didn't expect him to be getting another kid, especially one so young. I really wish Kim could make better choices, that way she'd be able to see her girls again. I love the girls, don't get me wrong, but they need their mother, I'm just a replacement woman in their life right now. I won't be important to them soon enough...
