Today was the funeral. It hurt. Honestly, I couldn't believe he was gone. It was like this was all some type of sick dream. Like, I could call him, he'd answer, and everything would go back to normal. I mean, I knew that wasn't true, but I couldn't help but think it might be. The girls, they were sad as well. I could barely tell them when I did. Anyhow, I helped each girl get dressed and do their hair, since they didn't want to get ready for the funeral. Each funeral is the day to say goodbye, so I knew why they didn't want it to come. Each girl wore a black dress, and I brushed their hair down. I put black headbands in their hair, as well as black flats on their feet. I then went into mine and Marshall's room. I slipped on a black dress and black flats, before waiting on Marshall to exit the bathroom so I could do my hair. I knocked on the door, but didn't get an answer.

"Marshall, are you okay?" I asked, before opening the door.

I gasped, when I seen the open pull bottle on the sink. I looked over and seen Marshall swallow a handful of them.

"Marshall?! What the hell?!" I exclaimed, and he glared at me.

"Don't talk to me that way. I'm just trying to cope with my best friend being gone." He spat, and I sighed.

"Marshall, you can't be taking pills. You can't be doing drugs with the girls in the house. What if they catch you?" I informed, and he sighed.

"Look, I'm just trying to get over Proof's death. There's still shit going down, and I can't handle every fucking thing at once." He stated, and I bit my lip.

"Why don't I take the girls away from here than? Get them away from everything?" I offered, and he shook his head.

"You're not taking my girls away from me." He spat, and I shook my head quickly.

"No, that's not what I meant, Marshall. I meant, take them away from all the shit. You could follow us a week later, a month, a year, whenever you want. I just want to get the girls away from all this shit, just until it dies down." I stated, and he looked away.

"I guess that's a good idea. I'll take care of shit down here, and then go down to you after everything's taken care of." Marshall replied, and I nodded.

"I love you, Marshall. I'll be here for you forever. Don't shut me out, and don't let this shit consume you." I said, and he nodded.

He walked out of the room, before I was able to do my hair. Once I was done, I seen Marshall was dressed as well. We got the girls into the truck, before we drove to where the funeral was being held. We walked inside, before I seen Sharonda. I went over to talk to her, but she just walked away. I knew she was upset, so I let her leave. As I was going to walk away, his mother came up to me.

"Kori, right?" She asked, and I nodded.

"Yes ma'am." I answered, before she hugged me.

"Thank you for being a friend to DeShaun. He always talked about how good you and Marshall were to him. He also talked about how he liked your voice when you sang to your youngest daughter. I was hoping you could sing for him, one last time." She said, and I nodded.

"Of course, I would feel honored." I answered, and she smiled.

Once she walked away, I went to the open casket viewing of Proof. I let a few tears slide, as I kissed his forehead.

"Thank you for being my friend. Fly high Big Proof." I said, as I patted his hand lightly.

"Before anyone begins speaking, I was told by DeShaun's mother, that DeShaun's friend Kori would be singing a song for him, one last time." The priest said, before I sat Whitney in Cela's lap.

I stood up and walked up in front of his casket, before grabbing the guitar I had requested earlier. Proof's casket was still open, saying it would be the last time he could "hear" my voice. After singing though, I knew Marshall would be having his speech. I looked over the crowd of people with tears in their eyes, before I began to sing.

After I finished, I watched people cry, before it was time for Marshall to come up and do his speech. He kissed my cheek, before walking up in front of everyone.

"Proof, he was my best friend. I've known him since we were little kids. He was the reason I had it in me to even get to where I am today. If it weren't for Proof, I don't know where I'd be right now. I probably wouldn't have my girlfriend and my kids, all five, soon to be six, of them. I love you Doody, so much. Fly high Big Proof. Fly high brother." Marshall said, before coming to sit back down.

Once he sat down next to me, I held his hand in mine. Soon it was time to bring the casket out to be buried. We arrived at the burial site, before we all stood around his casket. After the preacher spoke, and flowers were placed one by one on to his casket, the casket was lowered into the ground. Dirt was thrown on to the casket, as they buried Proof, before Marshall, the kids and I headed home.

"Kids, I need you guys to pack your bags." I said, and they looked confused.

"Why Mommy?" Emi asked, and I sighed.

"We're going to visit some family, while Daddy takes care of some stuff here. Don't worry though, you'll see Daddy again real soon." I spoke, and they nodded.

They went inside and packed their bags, before changing into different clothes. They hung their dresses, as did I, before Marshall and I loaded the bags into my car.

"I'll see you guys soon. I love you babies." He stated, as he kissed each one of them, and gave them hugs.

"I love you, Marshall. Get better and take care of this shit, okay?" I said, and he nodded.

"I will. I love you so damn much, Kori." He replied, as he kissed me.

He helped us get into the car and said goodbye one last time, before we drove away. Watching Marshall's frame grow smaller in the distance. As we drove, to our new home for now...
