Three days. Your father had been gone for three days and you knew in your gut that something was wrong. He went to show off his newest invention at a fair just out of town, but he should've been back already. Naturally, you assumed the worst, your stomach twisting into an uncomfortable knot at the possibilities.
An abrupt knock at the front door startled you from your worrisome thoughts. You headed to the entryway and opened the door to find the last person you wanted to see.
Seokjin.
"Hello, Y/n." He flashed that obnoxiously arrogant grin of his. "Seokjin." You greeted curtly, your tone clipped. "Please, Y/n, call me Jin. No need to use my full name." Taking in a deep breath, you released it slowly to cool your temper. "What do you want, Jin?" "I was just in the neighborhood." He responded casually, pulling out a handheld mirror and smoothing his hair. "Thought I'd stop by and pay you a little visit." "How thoughtful." Your voice dripped with sarcasm. "Now that you've paid me a visit, you can be on your way." You started to push the door closed only for it to be stopped by Seokjin's foot. "Where's your old man?" He asked. "Out." "Out where? I haven't seen him around." "Out of town." Was all you said. "It's been a few days since I last saw him. Maybe The Beast got him." "Oh please. Stop making up lies." "It's a possibility." "I don't have time for this nonsense. Leave me alone, I'm busy." You slammed the door in his face, releasing a huff of frustration and exasperation while stomping off to the kitchen.
You rummaged through the cabinets for a glass for something to drink, your expression shifting to a more pensive one as your thoughts drifted. Could your father really have been taken by The Beast? He was known to be illusive and temperamental, the whole town knew to steer clear of his castle, even the woods that surrounded it. If something happened to your father, that would be the first place to check.
After contemplating on what to do, you ultimately made the decision to set off and find him that night. It was a stupid decision, but you were desperate. He was your only family.
The horse's hooves thumped against the forest floor, carrying you through the darkened woods and past scraggly tree limbs that snagged on your clothes when you passed. The wind howled around you, whipping past your face and jostling the leaves that still clung to the trees.
The towering, gothic castle that lied beyond the village stood tall before you, the lightning flashing behind it almost feeling like a bad omen. You dismounted your horse, approaching the shadowy structure, the cold wind and icy rain sending chills down your spine. Your fingers curled around the large handles on the front doors that freaked when you pulled them open just enough to squeeze through. The castle felt like a maze as you made your way through it, your footfalls barely making a sound against the marble floors.
