Chapter Seventeen

-After three days they were finally back home. Sonic felt relieved to be back before he realized that their journey was not yet over and, feeling exhausted, fell on his knees in Amy's front yard. Amy had suggested that they rest in her house but Sonic insisted that they go to Tails' house to deliver the three Chaos Emeralds first. After many attempts to get Amy to change her mind, they started walking over to Tails' house. To Sonic's surprise, Shadow was there as well. Fleetway immediately went over to Shadow and started making conversation.
"You're back already?" Tails had come out from the door that led into his workshop and was walking over to Sonic. "I guess you didn't find all of them?"
"We found the ones Eggman didn't have," Sonic reassured. "As of now, we have four Chaos Emeralds while Eggman has three...that is...if you still have the first one."
"I do," Tails assured while keeping his head held high as though he was proud. "I've been working on how we can get Fleetway seen by everyone. So far it's a good chance."
"That's good to hear," Sonic grined. He walked up to Tails and gave him the Chaos Emeralds before he went back and collapsed onto Tails' couch and sighed. "We've had an adventure."
"It wasn't as bad as our usual ones," Amy remarked. "It just...had some blood and bruises in the making."
"What happened?" Shadow asked.
-Amy sat down on the couch next to Sonic and wrapped her arm around his shoulders before she spoke. "Sonic and Fleetway ran into Scourge and Fiona when they found the blue emerald. From what I saw, Fiona was standing in front of Scourge and was about to charge at Sonic. Of course that's when I had to intervene. After a while we managed to beat them.
"We then went to the mountains and found the white emerald. After that, Nack, Bean, and Bark appeared and wanted to take the emeralds we had. Nack shot Sonic in the arm---"
"He what!?" Tails interrupted. "Sonic, how could you let yourself get shot!?"
"We didn't want to fight them!" Sonic justified himself. "They weren't worth it and when I turned around he shot me."
"A wiser man wouldn't have turned his back," Shadow remarked.
"Shut up!"
"Anyway," Amy continued. "I attacked them for doing that and Sonic came in and threw Nack into the ravine. Sonic then fell onto the ground and after a few minutes he turned into Fleetway and started attacking Bean and Bark.
"After I tied them up, Nack came out of no where and pushed me into the ravine. Sonic was stupid enough to jump in after me and apparently Fleetway caught us and brought us onto a ledge. I was able to get back out and they surrounded me. Nack was about to have them kill me, but I wasn't ready to die yet so I fought back. Sonic then came out and started attacking Nack."
"Let's leave the last part out," Sonic suggested.
"What part?" Shadow asked.
"Nothing," Amy replied.
"Don't be a wuss, Sonic," Fleetway sneered. "So what if they know you tried to punch Nack's face to death? That shows you have some back bone at least."
"What!?" Shadow whipped his head around and looked at Fleetway.
-Fleetway! Sonic flattened his ears as Tails frowned.
"What did you do?" He asked a little too calmly.
"Nothing!" Sonic exclaimed. "It's nothing you guys need to worry about. Look, we have the rest of the Chaos Emeralds that Eggman doesn't have, so all we need to worry about is how we're going to steal them from him."
-Tails shook his head and crossed his arms. "Sure, whatever. I'll try to have Knuckles and Vector's gang try to get the rest. You two can focus on resting since your shifts will be starting soon."
"Shifts?" Amy asked in confusion.
"Don't you remember? Sonic said that we take shifts to protect Elias. You guys have been gone and the others are getting tired."
"Yeah, we got it," Sonic reassured. "It's just Naugus. If he shows up we'll drive him off."
"Right," Tails then turned around and opened the door to his workshop. He looked at Sonic and narrowed his eyes. "We'll get all seven Chaos Emeralds soon. Everyone will see Fleetway. I'm sure of it," He shut the door and left everyone in silence.
-Shadow rolled his eyes and started walking to the front door. "I assume things worked out for you and Fleetway?" He asked Sonic.
-Sonic nodded and sighed. "Some what."
-Shadow then turned and looked at Fleetway. "You going to stay with them?"
-Fleetway's ears perked up before he shook his head. "I'll stay with you."
-Sonic's heart sank when he saw Fleetway walk out the door with Shadow. He thought that Fleetway would have decided to be back with Sonic, but he then remembered what he had said earlier. You'll leave me alone with her by your side. Sonic immediately thought that being with Amy was the wrong decision, but he looked at her and decided that he didn't and that he wanted to stay by her side, yet the thought of Fleetway not being around still toyed with his emotions. He didn't want Fleetway gone.
"Let's go home then," Amy interrupted Sonic's thoughts and stood up. Sonic stood up as well and follow Amy out the door. While walking Amy grabbed Sonic's hand firmly and leaned her head on Sonic's shoulder. "Something wrong?"
"It's Fleetway," Sonic replied. "I'd thought he'd come with us."
"Hasn't he been with you this whole time?" Amy questioned.
"No," Sonic sighed and leaned his head on Amy's. "Before I quite that job Shadow had confronted us about how he could see Fleetway the whole time. He asked why I didn't tell everyone about Fleetway and when I answered Fleetway got upset and ran off. That's why I was upset at Rouge's party, and why I came back with you. I was just tired of being alone. I hope that doesn't offend you in any way."
"It doesn't," Amy assured. "You said that before."
"Right," Sonic continued. "He didn't come back with me until that day when Shadow barged in and forced me to go to his place along with sending us to find the Chaos Emeralds. Now...I guess he's decided that he prefers to be with Shadow."
"Well, it sounds like you got along perfectly before then."
"Not really."
"What? Why not?"
"In the beginning I hated Fleetway because he resembled my dark side and I thought him to be selfish. It lasted until I found that emerald Tails has when Fleetway got hurt and I had to promise him I'd treat him like real family should," Sonic let go of Amy's hand and set his head up straight. "I started to enjoy it, but when Shadow came up to us...it just changed. Fleetway was saying about how I would go back to treating him poorly after his back was healed even when I said I wouldn't."
"Oh, Sonic..." Amy didn't finish what she was saying and just wrapped her arm around Sonic's waist while keeping her head on his shoulder. But Sonic knew what she wanted to say.
"You don't need to feel sorry," He reassured her. "I've moved on with my life and that doesn't mean Fleetway can't. Once we can get everyone to see him, he'll be doing everything he always wanted."
