Chapter Twenty-four

-Infinite brought his hand up and shot red particles at everyone while Sonic grabbed Fleetway's arm and ducked behind the next wall to avoid them. He looked and noticed that both Knuckles and Vector had been throne into the wall when nothing hit them, indicating they were trapped in Infinite's reality.
"What's happening!?" Fleetway screeched.
"They're trapped in Infinite's reality," Sonic explained. "That's what happens when you touch the red particles. And when you're in his reality he can attack you easily there."
"Let's just make a break for it," Fleetway insisted. "There are still others we can find and destroy the weapon."
-Sonic whipped his head around and glared at him. "Run if you want, but I'm not abandoning my friends!" He then ran out and used his homing attack on Infinite, knocking him back along with getting rid of Infinite's focus that kept the others in his reality. Sonic untucked himself and watched as Infinite stood back up. "Come on, Infinite!"
-Infinite then giggled as he looked at Sonic. "Bold talk for someone who's afraid."
"I'm not afraid!" Sonic yelled. "Why would I be afraid to fight you!?"
"Ah, but it's not me you're afraid of is it?" He shot forward and his face was right up to Sonic's. "I can sense you fear something you care about," He then shot red particles in Sonic's face and Sonic drew back while rubbing his eyes. "Let's see your fear!"

-Sonic opened his eyes as sunlight hit them. He immediately sat up and looked around his surroundings. He saw that he was back at his old home, sitting in his old hammock. He looked over and saw his hut, still in its place. Sonic looked around again when something didn't feel right to him and jumped out of his hammock. He began running around while yelling "Fleetway!" in hopes of finding him.
-He then skidded to a halt when he remembered something. "Wait, wasn't I in the base? How did I get here? And where's everyone else?"
-In almost a heartbeat the entire area turned from a beautiful green field into a landfill of blood and organs. Sonic screamed and back up into a tree upon seeing this and began to panic. What...what the fuck!? He looked around once again and began running. Fleetway!!! He stopped again when he saw bodies everywhere, all bloodied up and parts of them open with nothing inside. Sonic fought the urge to throw up as he continued to look.
-He entered the woods and froze when he saw more blood, organs, and bodies, surrounding someone who was head to toe covered in blood. It was Fleetway. Sonic gulped and tried to touch his shoulder. "F...Fleetway?"
-Fleetway turned around and looked at Sonic. He showed anger in his eyes as he started growling. "Why are you here?"
-Sonic backed up a bit from Fleetway's burning eyes. "What do you mean? We were at Eggman's base just a moment ago. Why are you covered in blood?"
-Fleetway then burst into laughter and glared at Sonic again. "Why!? You dare ask me why!?" He walked towards Sonic until he backed up into a tree. "It's because of you!"
-Sonic flattened his ears and started trembling. "What did I do!?"
"You made me this way!" Fleetway yelled. "You wouldn't let me do anything! You were always criticizing me when I tried to help you!" He then grabbed Sonic neck and dug his claws into it. "You always hated me when I gave you love!"
-Sonic started gasping for air as his throat clenched in pain. He tried to open his mouth to speak to him, but not much came out. "...I...Fleet...didn't..." He couldn't even get think of the right words to say, he just needed to breathe at least once.
"I don't care if I die," Fleetway whispered. "Killing you is what I've yearned for years!"
-Fleetway tightened his grip on Sonic's neck along with piercing his claws into the skin. Sonic struggled and tried to kick him off but couldn't. He felt his own grip loosening and his eyes rolled to the back of his head as his vision darkened.

-Sonic jolted awake and found himself gasping for air while putting his hand on his throat. He continued to pant as he looked around and saw that Knuckles and Tails had somehow tied up Infinite. Infinite was struggling until he looked at Sonic and began giggling.
"Sonic?"
-Fleetway had ran over to Sonic and reached out for him, but panic began rising as Sonic watched Fleetway before he slapped his hand away and started backing up until he hit the wall. "Get away from me!" He screamed.
-Fleetway drew back from him immediately. His ears flattened while his eyes showed that he was hurt and confused. Everyone had turned and looked at Fleetway and Sonic, silence filling the air. Fleetway had perked his ears and tried reaching out for Sonic again. "Hey..."
-Sonic flinched as he hid his face in his knees. "Don't touch me!"
-Infinite then started laughing out loud. Sonic slowly turned his head to look as Infinite did so. Once Infinite was done laughing he looked at Sonic, his yellow eye burning in excitement. "I told you were afraid, and now we know the truth!" He started laughing again but Knuckles had walked over and kicked him to the wall.
"Shut up you bastard!" He growled.
-Sonic was finally breathing normally again and he set his hand down from his throat. He could still feel the claws piercing in his neck and tried to shake it off.
"Sonic, what happened?" Tails walked over and crouched down in front of Sonic. "What are you afraid of?"
-Sonic didn't want to tell them the truth, or rather he didn't want Fleetway to know the truth. He tried to make up an excuse to steer away from it. "Just an illusion," He reassured. "I-I'm fine...now."
"Just an illusion!?" Infinite yelled. "I don't create illusions, I create realities! Whether it's your hopes and dreams or nightmares that lie deep in your soul. What you just went through is something you're trying to avoid!"
"Didn't I tell you to shut up!?" Knuckles growled as he clenched his fists at him.
-Sonic shook his head and tried to stand up. "I'm fine! Let's just...continue on. I'm sure everyone is waiting in the middle already."
-Tails nodded and turned around to everyone. "You heard him! Just leave Infinite here and get moving!" Tails led the group out of the hallway while Sonic and Fleetway stayed where they were.
-Sonic looked at Fleetway and sighed. "Look, it wasn't you," He reassured him. "I'm just a little shaken by what I saw."
-Fleetway nodded and walked over to Sonic. "You had me worried. I saw you get hit by those things and I thought you were knocked out or worse."
-Sonic hesitated before he wrapped his arm around Fleetway's shoulder. "What happened there doesn't mean anything. Let's just move on and finish the mission so we can rest another couple of months before Eggman's next evil plan."
-Fleetway giggled and they both started walking when Infinite started speaking.
"You can't run from your fears," He warned. "It'll catch up to you and consume you until you won't be able to take it anymore. You'll soon start hurting someone before they hurt you."
-Sonic tried his best to ignore him, but his words made it into his mind. I wouldn't do that to anyone. He told himself. I won't do that to anyone.
"I know you won't," Fleetway remarked as they followed the others to the middle of the building.
