Chapter Twelve

-Sonic dried himself off with a towel and looked at himself in the mirror, still wondering how this had gone so fast. He remembered how Fleetway kept encouraging him to ask Amy out, but Sonic never listened or even bothered. Now it was like Fleetway was holding him back from doing so. Was that really true or was it just grief? He would never truly know now. 
-Sonic set the towel back in the towel rack and stepped out of the bathroom. Amy was already sitting on the couch wearing her red dress, boots, and headband. Sonic sat on the couch next to her and started putting his gloves, socks, and shoes on. "Any idea why Sally would call us in?"
"Nope," Amy shrugged her shoulders and fixed her head band when it went out of place. "I would think it was about Eggman, but apparently that's not the case...for once," She muttered.
"Right!" Sonic giggled. "But it doesn't feel right."
-Amy nodded and stood up. "Let's just go then," She grabbed Sonic's hand and pulled him up. Sonic took the lead while still holding her hand and headed towards Sally's place, keeping his pace slow. He didn't feel like rushing at the moment.

-Sonic and Amy were walking up to the palace gates and stood in front of the guards before they opened the gates and let them through. Both of them bowed down before them as they walked by and closed the gates once they went inside the castle. Sonic looked along the hall with the pictures of the kings immediately recognizing Maximillian, Sally's father, and Elias, her brother. After the hall ended they entered the counseling room where some of the others have already gathered. He saw Sally, Nicole, Antoine, Bunnie, Roter, Ken, Tails, Silver, Rouge, and Knuckles.
"Sonic! Amy!" Sally hollered. "Come and have a seat!"
-Sonic looked at the two empty seats by Tails and went over and sat by him. Amy reluctantly sat down next to him and waved at Tails. Tails smiled and waved back before looking at Sonic. "About what happened last night," He whispered. "I think I can---"
"Let's get this meeting started!" Sally shouted which caused everyone to quiet down.
-Knuckles had his arms crossed and was tapping his fingers on his arm. "Aren't we still waiting for Shadow?"
"If he gets here he gets here, but I'm not waiting any longer," Sally sneered. She cleared her throat and waited for everyone to look at her. She closed her eyes and smiled. "Good afternoon everyone and thank you all for coming! Let's talk about Eggman before we talk about the real reason we're here," She motioned Nicole and Tails as they stood beside her on opposite sides. "Tails, Nicole, and I have been trying to get into Eggman's secret files and boy has he somewhat learned from the many times we've hacked his system!" Everyone laughed and snickered including Sonic. "Anyway, so he's hiring a few bad guys that we know to collect the Chaos Emeralds for him. Sonic had already saw Rough and Tumble digging for one, which we have so Eggman will only have six."
"Five," Sonic interrupted. "Shadow has one."
"Even better!" Sally cheered. "What Eggman plans on doing is creating yet another death weapon that could harm and destroy Mobius," She continued. "We don't exactly know the blueprint yet, but we'll get there. That's all I have to say about that."
"And we can figure them out before our meeting in two days," Tails remarked. "Sonic said he'd be hosting it at a cafe."
-Ken turned his head to Sonic with his eyes narrow and his mouth in a frown. "Why at a cafe? Shouldn't it be held here?"
-Sonic put his elbow on the table and rested his head on his hand as he eyed Ken. "I just don't want to be as noticeable. Eggman already knows about our councilor room and could stalk us anytime."
"And a cafe would be less noticeable?" Ken said sarcastically.
"Bud out, Ken!" Amy  sneered. "He didn't say which and it's not like Eggman can hack into our text messages and figure it out," Ken then rolled his eyes and turned away. Amy snorted and held Sonic's hand. "I can see why you don't like him as much," She whispered. Sonic nodded and waited for Sally to continue talking.
"Now for the real reason you're here---" Sally was interrupted when the door slammed open and Shadow stood there, his fur wet and he was panting.
"Shadow, what happened to you?" Rouge gasped.
"There was a difficult task I needed to do," He looked at Sonic and stepped forward. After he did Sonic saw Fleetway come in after him. 
-Sonic's ears flattened and his eyes went wide. He then shook his head and glared at him. Why are you here!? 
-Fleetway didn't look at him and went to sit by the wall. "Shadow convinced me to come back," He muttered. 
-Sonic stifled a growl as he turned away. Of course you have to be convinced to come back! You have no intention do you!? Not like I need you anyway! Things have never been better! Fleetway had not said anything in reply and Sonic spent the rest of this time just listening to Sally.
"Well...now that Shadow's here we can discuss the important matters," Sally coughed before she continued. "Do you guys remember Naugus?"
-Sonic nearly choked by his own breath as he straightened. "You mean that fat ugly wizard that took the kingdom from Elias and the rest of your family!?"
-Sally nodded. "He sent my brother a death note, but Elias, his wife, and step-daughter have gone out for vacation so he doesn't know about it. I think Naugus plans on trying to take the crown again."
"Is Geoffrey in on it as well?" Sonic asked.
"Who knows. Just keep your guard up," Sally warned. "If Naugus really is planning on killing Elias we need to be ready to defend him."
"Can't Elias defend himself?" Silver questioned. "I mean he studded martial arts and has strong royal guards to protect him."
-Knuckles pounded his fist onto the table. "You think we can't handle it!?"
"That's not what I'm implying at all!" Silver said too quickly. "I'm just saying it's not...you know...our place?" Silver didn't seem to know what he was talking about anymore and just shut his mouth.
"Not our place!?" Roter sneered. "Elias is our friend and family! We can't just ignore this."
"That's not what he's saying at all!" Bunnie shouted.
"Well it sure sounded like it!" Rouge barked.
-Everyone was then caught up in an argument. Sally was trying to get everyone to stop but they ignored her. Sonic looked at Amy as she looked back and nodded. He could tell what she was trying to say and nodded back. He sighed and stood up on the table. "EVERYONE NEEDS TO SHUT UP!!!" With that everyone stopped and stared at him. He caught a glimpse of Fleetway looking at him in surprise but ignored him. "Look, there's no reason for us to act like savages over one little mishap," He looked at Silver. "Elias can defend himself, but Naugus took the kingdom once and we can't risk that again."
-Silver nodded and looked away. "Right...sorry."
"No need for apologies," Sonic reassured. He then looked around at everyone. Damn...I'm not used to this. He sighed and continued. "Elias will have his guards when he returns, but we should at least have a few of us near him until Naugus is taking care of."
"Um, Sir Sonic? Do you honestly believe we can hold out for zat long?" Antoine questioned.
"Well, no, but that's what shifts are for," Sonic reminded. "We could trade every two hours or whatever is fine for all of you. What matters is we must keep Elias alive! He's not just our king, he's our brother and as such we have to put in our part to protect him!" Everyone except for Shadow cheered and whistled in response.
-Sally walked over beside Sonic and smiled. "Couldn't have said it better myself. You'd make a great king, like Elias."
"Let's not go into that," Sonic whispered. "It's not really something I'm into."
"You're mother and siblings would be proud, though!" Sally whined. "And plus, you're already a great leader," She then leaned in and pointed at Amy. "And it seems you've already picked your future queen!"
"Sally!" Sonic chuckled. "Cut it out already!"

-It was night and everyone was heading home. Sonic had to talk with Tails and Shadow since they wanted to talk to him about Fleetway. He and Amy were standing right at the palace gates. Sonic scanned the area before looking at Amy. "Will you wait here for me? I need to talk to Tails and Shadow."
-Amy crossed her arms and narrowed one eye. "Sure, but I want to know what you three are hiding."
"Amy---"
"Nu-uh! Don't pull that on me!" Amy snapped. "I'll leave without you and you can sleep outside!"
-Sonic sighed and scratched behind his left ear. "Okay...okay...I'll tell you tonight before we go to bed. Sound good?"
-Amy nodded. "I guess. I'll keep reminding you, though. Now hurry up! I don't want to stand here all night."
-Sonic turned and ran around the corner where Shadow, Tails and Fleetway stood. Tails was talking with Shadow with his computer in his arms. "So...where's Fleetway?"
-Shadow pointed beside him at Fleetway. "Right there, but I can't touch him."
-Sonic walked up to them and placed both his hands on his hips. "What did you guys want to talk about?"
-Shadow looked at Sonic and crossed his arms. "Tails thinks he can do something that'll make Fleetway visible to everyone."
"What!?" Both Sonic and Fleetway gasped as their ears perked.
-Tails nodded. "Since Shadow said Fleetway's made out of Chaos energy I figured that if we collect all the Chaos Emeralds then we could use Chaos Control to do so. I checked on my computer and the Chaos Emeralds history shows that making him visible is about a seventy five to twenty five percent chance."
-Sonic snorted. "And what does that have to do with me being here?"
"Are you still mad at him?" Shadow asked. "I mean...he's still your brother."
"Of course I'm fucking mad at him!" Sonic snapped. "He decides to act like a child and run away only for me to find out that he's been selfish my entire life!!!"
"Okay, fine! I'm sorry! There happy!?" Fleetway sneered.
"You don't get to apologize! Things have been going great without you!"
"You keep saying that! Before Amy you were miserable; begging me to come back!" Fleetway growled. "You just can't handle being alone! Don't rely on Amy forever. She'll just leave you like everyone else!"
-Sonic then snapped and attacked Fleetway. He tackled him down and pinned him to the ground. "You have no right saying that!"
"Does it look like I give a shit!?" Fleetway kicked Sonic off of him and knocked him onto the ground, landing in his stomach. He grabbed Sonic's arm and folded it over his back causing him to scream in agony. "You deserve to suffer!"
"Cut it out you two!" Shadow yelled.
"What's happening!?" Tails screamed.
-Sonic managed to spin dash and push Fleetway back. He used his homing attack and knocked Fleetway to side. He untucked himself and glared at Fleetway. "You really think I need you!? You need me! If I die then you die, but that doesn't work the same if you die does it!?"
-Fleetway bared his fangs and started growling. "I don't need you! I would gladly kill myself so I wouldn't have to see your stupid ugly face again!"
"Then do so!" Sonic turned around and started walking away. "Unlike you I have someone who loves and needs me," He continued to walk away, not even bothering to look back when Shadow and Tails would call out to him. He was right at the palace gates where Amy was still waiting.
"You're finally back!" She smiled. She then frowned when she noticed the bruise on Sonic's arm. "What happened!? Did Shadow pick a fight with you again!?"
"I don't want to talk about it," Sonic muttered.
"Oh, Sonic," Amy grabbed Sonic's hand and rubbed her head against Sonic's. "Don't even bother telling me anything. Let's just go home."
-While walking Fleetway's words rang in his head. I would gladly kill myself so I wouldn't have to see your stupid ugly face again! Sonic didn't believe he would, yet he started to have second thoughts. He shook his head and kept it up high. He's not your problem anymore! What he does is no longer your concern. He leaned his head on Amy's as they continued to her house for the night.
