Chapter Thirty-one

-Sonic tensed as Dominic nearly nailed a blow on Rob. Sonic was aware that Rob specialized in archery and didn't know much about a sword other than it's ability to cut through skin and bone. He knew that if Rob made one wrong move it would be over for him. And over some stupid crown. Will I ever face this? He didn't want to imagine killing someone over his throne.
-His ear twitched when he saw Fleetway step forward before he hesitated and stepped back. "This isn't right!" He mumbled.
"I wish it wasn't this way..." Maggie remarked.
-Rob yelled out in agony when Dominic managed to stick his blade through Rob's leg. Everyone gasped as Rob fell to the ground and grasped his leg where it was bleeding, trying to take the sword out. Sonic had to mentally stop himself from interfering. Rob managed to pull the sword out of his leg and out of Dominic's grasp. He hopped up and shoved both swords to Dominic's face to where they almost touched.
"We can just stop here, Dominic," Rob suggested. "There's no way you can win."
"We will stick to the rules that were laid out," Dominic retorted. "Go ahead and do it then if you've won."
-Rob widened his eyes and let his guard down, which allowed Dominic to push Rob backwards and grab one of the swords. When Dominic was about to strike, Rob blocked it with his own sword only to have it throne over too far from his reach. Dominic then pinned Rob to the ground with his foot and pointed the blade to his face.
"Shameful," Dominic sneered. "You, a king, can't even fight to keep your throne."
-Rob sighed and somehow let out a small giggle. "Do it if you must, but I assure you the whole kingdom will turn on you. You will only make enemies."
-Dominic snorted and was about to jab his sword through Rob's chest when another sword came flying and knocked it out of Dominic's hand. Dominic looked to where the two swords landed and growled. "Who dares to interrupt!?"
"I dare!" Elias walked over with Sally and Nicole beside him. His expression was stern and his arms crossed added to his anger. "This match is over!"
-Sonic flattened his ears, not knowing how to feel. "Elias..."
-Dominic whipped his head around to Elias. "Who are you to stop this match!?"
"I am the king of this island," Elias responded. "And you showed up to challenge another king without our consent, therefore you shall be fined for it."
-While Dominic shrank in defeat, Rob stood up with a big smile on his face. He then fell down and grasped his leg again as it kept on bleeding.
"Rob!" Amy pulled out from Sonic's grip and ran over to Rob, trying desperately to stop the bleeding. "You're so stupid you know that!?"
"Yeah, I know. You keep telling me that," Rob chuckled.
-Sonic sighed in relief and tensed again when Sally started walking over to him. Sonic placed one hand on his hip and smirked when Sally stood in front of him. "You gonna lecture me on how I should've stopped this?"
"Well, as a prince you don't hold much power over a king," Sally pointed out. "But here on you're island and a king from another island, then you hold more power."
-Sonic let his arm drop and face palmed himself. "So I actually could've stopped this!? Now I feel like a dumbass!"
"Swear," Fleetway muttered.
-Sonic whipped his head around and playfully glared at Fleetway. "Shut up! A prince can swear in front of a princess if he wants to!"
-Fleetway smiled and rolled his eyes. He then wrapped his arm around Sonic's shoulders and pulled him in. "And here I thought I was the immature one!" He laughed as he started to noogie Sonic's head.
"Stop it, Fleetway!" Sonic laughed as he tried to pull from Fleetway's grip. When he finally did he rubbed his forehead and smiled at Fleetway. "You are more immature. Just months ago you tried to encourage me to take advantage over Amy."
"Wait what!?" Sally gasped.
"Oops..." Sonic had forgotten Sally was there and looked at her awkwardly as she was giving both of them a skeptical look. "Um...No hablo inglés?" He chuckled.
"You what?" Maggie looked at Fleetway.
-Fleetway's ears flattened and looked at his feet. "Uh..."
"No, I was joking!" Sonic lied and pulled Fleetway back. He made a huge grin, showing his teeth. "Just a joke! It's what we do!"
-Maggie only tilted her head to the side and said nothing else.
-Fleetway sighed and pulled himself out of Sonic's grip. "It's fine, Sonic. At least I grew out of that when I started living with Shadow."
-Sonic nodded and rushed over to help Amy with Rob. He grabbed one of Rob's arms and wrapped it around his own shoulders. "Damn, Rob! You feeling all right?"
"Been through worse," Rob reassured. "It's not as bad as having Super Scourge beat you to a pulp."
"I can't imagine having to go through that," Sonic muttered. "Having to defend your own crown even if it means killing someone."
"I don't do it just to keep my title," Rob remarked. "I do it to protect my kingdom. I couldn't care less if I had my crown taken away from me; it's who takes it that worries me," He groaned as Amy and Sonic moved forward so that he had to move as well. "I say 'huzzah' now that I don't have kill Dominic for my throne. He mightn't have tried to do anything bad to the kingdom, but he isn't as noble as a king should be."
"You and your nobility," Amy jested.
-After sending Dominic away, Elias approached them with a smile on his face. "Glad I got here in time. Otherwise you would be dead, King Robert," He the bowed his head to him.
"And I must thank thee for coming. I could've lost my own head," He then bowed his head to Elias in return. "Prithee, King Elias, call me Rob. You needn't address me as my full title."
"Then call me Elias if I call you Rob," Elias giggled.
"I got him, Sonic," Amy whispered.
-Sonic nodded and walked back over to Fleetway, Maggie, Knuckles, and Rouge. Before he could speak to any one of them the crowed started whispering to one another. It was loud and filled with panic and worry. Sonic groaned when neither Sally or Elias tried talking and went over to the center. "Everyone!" he shouted and waited until everyone fell silent. "Everything is okay now. Go on back to your homes and resume what you were doing before hand," Everyone started chatting as they left the beach and if fell silent again.

-Sonic, Amy, Fleetway, and Maggie were helping get Rob over to Amy's house. When they got there Amy opened the door and let everyone go in first. Sonic had Fleetway and Maggie let go so he was able to get Rob sitting on the couch. Before they came here Rouge said she was going to go get her med-kit and then meet them here so she can treat Rob.
"Gah!" Rob hissed as he grasped his leg. "Still not as bad. Still not at bad," He told himself.
"You'll be fine," Sonic assured him. "Rouge managed to sew up Amy's stomach, and she was in much worse condition than you."
"What has happened?" Rob asked as he narrowed his eyes.
-Sonic looked away and scratched the side of his head. "Um...So there was this thing where Naugus wanted to kill me and Elias and somehow before I got to the Acorn Kingdom he attacked Amy. Alexis showed me a page in her book written in blood and Fleetway figured out it was Amy's..."
"Bloody hell!?" Rob slammed his hand on the couch arm. "That happened to my cousin!? Really!?"
-Sonic nodded. "But you know she's strong. She was supposed to be in a coma for about a week or so, but she woke in about two or three days."
-When Rob didn't say anything else Fleetway walked over to Sonic and started whispering in his ear. "I don't know what to do about her!" He then pointed to Maggie who was speaking with Amy.
-Sonic smirked and patted Fleetway's shoulder. Just talk to her; ask her how she is, what she's doing, is there anything new, etcetera. Be smooth about it. He giggled when Fleetway made this annoyed look. Don't be a baby! She's not going to bite you. Sonic giggled again when Fleetway threatened to hit him.
"Okay, FINE!" Fleetway snorted and reluctantly walked over and started talking to Maggie. "Uh...hey."
"Hi!" Maggie stuck her tongue out and laughed. "Don't be so shy!"
-Fleetway's face turned red as he crossed his arms and looked away. "I'm not shy! I just...don't know how to talk to other people!" Fleetway then shook his head and sighed. "Never mind then."
"Oh no! It's okay, really!" Maggie reassured. "I'm sorry! Sometimes I don't know what to say either."
"Y-yeah..." Fleetway nodded but didn't look at her. "It's fine."
-Sonic shook his head and sat down on the couch next to Rob. I said be smooth! What was that? Sonic rolled his eyes when Fleetway flashed an angry look at him. He sighed and his head shot up when he heard knocking on the door.
"I got it!" Amy called as she rushed to the door and opened it. "Hey, Rouge! Thank you for coming to help."
"Of course!" Rouge walked in with her med-kit and immediately went over to Rob. "You're in good hands, Rob. I've dealt with worse."
"Uh...thanks..." Rob removed his hood and sighed. "I'll be glad to get back home to my wife and son. I bet they're missing me."
"How are Mari-An and Jon lately?" Sonic asked, trying to change the subject.
"They're well enough, though I don't know how they're going to deal with the ghouls if it comes to it," Rob responded. "But I have faith in them."
"You have guards don't you?" Amy walked over and placed one hand on her hip.
"Yeah, but we don't really put them to work. All we have them do is stand around and talk to the civilians."
-Sonic stopped listening to Rob and Amy and looked over at Fleetway and Maggie. They were making direct eye contact and were smiling. Fleetway looked like he was enjoying himself and that made Sonic feel better. Maybe these things will work out after all. He thought and remembered immediately that Fleetway could hear that.
-Fleetway had whipped his head around to face Sonic and was glaring at him. "I'll beat the shit out of you if you don't stop thinking about that!" Maggie shrank back a bit and Rob tilted his head in confusion. Amy and Rouge on the other hand both rolled their eyes and smiled.
-Sonic grined awkwardly and closed his eyes. "Am I wrong, though?"
"Yes!" Fleetway crossed his arms.
-Maggie brushed her hair back and pulled her low pig-tails. "What's hap--"
"I can read his mind," Fleetway answered quickly. "That's all there is to it."
"Sonic, can you help with this?" Rouge asked.
-Sonic nodded and sat down on the floor next to Rouge. He did as she said regarding the cleaning and stitching of Rob's leg. Rob's leg would twitch and he would bite his lips while closing his eyes every time the needle would go through his flesh and the string moving with it. Sonic tried his best to calm Rob down, but it only made his own stomach clench when he saw the needle go through Rob's flesh. At least Amy was unconscious.
-Sonic saw Fleetway look in their direction, his face showing discomfort and disgust. He left Maggie and went over to sit next to Sonic. "Can't you numb his leg?" He asked Rouge.
-Rouge shook her head. "I don't have the proper things for that."
-Sonic, while keeping pressure on Rob's leg, looked at Fleetway and motioned him to Maggie with his head. Don't leave her hanging. He smiled and watched Fleetway walk back and started talking to Maggie again.
