-Two weeks later Sonic got a part-time job working as a waiter in a restaurant called Gourmet Burger. It was the end of the week and Sonic had already got his paycheck so he went to the nearest Pharmacy to get some medicine. He went to one of the small aisles and grabbed two small containers of Ibuprofen and paid for them at the counter. After leaving the Pharmacy he ran back over to his hut and went inside. Fleetway was still in pain but he was able to walk a little bit. He still couldn't fly, though, so it upset him. Sonic set the small bag on the small table and Fleetway looked at him with a smug expression.
"What's with the suit?"
-Sonic looked down at his uniform and sighed. He was wearing a red long sleeve polo with white jeans and blacks shoes with a black apron. He heard Fleetway snicker and crossed his arms. "It's the uniform I have to wear."
"You had this job for a week and you never showed me that."
"I got excited after the paycheck so I could get you this," He picked the bag up and threw it at Fleetway. "Now you'll be able to take that."
-Fleetway caught the bag and sat down in the chair as he took one of the containers out. "Eh-boo-praw-fin?"
-Sonic snorted while he giggled. "Ibuprofen," He corrected. "It's medicine that'll help you," He went over to the bed and started removing his clothes. He set them on the bed and went to grab his gloves and shoes in the corner and put them on.
-Fleetway was examining the container, turning it as he read what it said. "How do I take this?" He shook the container and his ears perked as he heard the rattling sound from inside.
"You take one pill and swallow it with water or any other drink."
"Do I have to drink something with it?"
"If you don't want it to be difficult or you don't want to taste it," He then let himself collapse on the bed and sighed. "It's not technically aspirin, but I suggest eating before taking one." He then closed his eyes and wrapped his arms under his head.
"Ah," Fleetway put the container back in the bag and set it on the table. "I'm getting better, though. Do I really need it?"
-Sonic opened one eye and looked at Fleetway. "If you want to heal faster. You said you wanted to come with me to that party, right?" Fleetway nodded. "Then you should take it. You're close to being healed, but it's better to be safe than sorry. After all, the party is in two weeks and if you came with me like that then you're only going to get hurt worse."
"Right, 'cause no one would be able to see me," Fleetway sighed.
-Sonic closed his eye and set his feet flat on the bed. "We still need to figure out how you were able to throw Rough; let alone touch him."
-Fleetway's left ear twitched. "Maybe it was that Chaos Emerald? I don't know. It might have done something?"
"It's always something with those damn Chaos Emeralds!" Sonic mocked. "'Holy crap! I'm yellow and all powerful!?' Those damn Chaos Emeralds. 'I'm a big hairy beast with Dark Gaia's energy!?' Those damn Chaos Emeralds. 'My wife left me alone for a rich man!?' Those damn Chaos Emeralds!"
-Fleetway burst into laughter and looked at Sonic. "'My wife left alone me for a rich man!?' What the fuck, Sonic!"
-Sonic sat up and started laughing. He closed one eye and pointed at Fleetway. "I'm tellin' ya," He spoke in a Scottish accent. "It's always those Chaos Emeralds! They always cause trouble!"
-Fleetway continued laughing as he started rubbing his left eye. "Stop! You're being stupid!"
-Sonic opened his eye and burst into laughter again. "All right! All right!" He spoke normally. "God damn! That's something," He calmed himself and sighed. "Man, how did we get from me hating you to me treating you like a little brother?"
"Little brother or big brother I like it," Fleetway grined. "It's way better," He then looked at Sonic. "Why did you hate me in the first place?"
-Sonic flattened his ears and looked away. "Ah...well..." He didn't know how to answer this. He knew the answer but he didn't know how to tell Fleetway. "Can we not discuss that?" He rubbed his finger under his nose. "Not right now at least?"
-Fleetway nodded. "Yeah, sure."

-Another week passed and Fleetway was getting to the point to where he could fly again. He would follow Sonic to work since he had nothing else to do. Sonic was in the employee lounge as he waited for his shift to start. He was wearing his uniform and his new name tag that had taken a bit to register. Fleetway was leaning against Sonic, almost half asleep. You could go home and sleep. Sonic suggested. It's better than falling asleep here with the chance of someone sitting on you.
"I'm fine," Fleetway reassured. "I'll just keep myself awake."
-You don't need to do that to yourself, Fleetway. Sonic turned his head and popped his neck. A woman came in and motioned Sonic to the door.
"Your shift is on."
"Thank you," Sonic stood up and started walking out into the eating area while Fleetway followed before the door shut. Sonic watched as the hostess brought what seemed to be a couple to an empty booth. The hostess walked up to Sonic and nodded as she went back to the front desk. Sonic grabbed two menus and walked over to the couple while handing out the menus. "Thank you for coming! While you decide what you want can I interest you two in some drinks?"
-The man had ordered sweet tea while the lady had just ordered water as Sonic wrote it down and left. While he walked he heard the man say, "I didn't know the great hero had an actual job."
"It should do him good," The lady replied. "I heard he lives in a really small house alone."
-Sonic sighed and went into the kitchen and prepared the drinks for the couple when Fleetway flew in and snorted. "Why are they talking like that? It ain't their business about what you do."
-Sonic set the two glasses on a sliver tray and was getting ready to open the door. It's fine, Fleetway. They're just regular civilians who like gossip. There's nothing wrong with that.
"But doesn't gossip usually lead to bad things?"
-Sonic used his side to push the door open without spilling the drinks and started walking. Maybe in school, but it's not as bad as the grownups. Sonic walked over to the table and handed them their drinks and silverware. "Are you two ready to order?"
-The man nodded and told Sonic what they wanted while Sonic wrote it down. After he was done talking Sonic set his notepad in his black apron and was about to leave when the woman started talking. "Mr. Sonic?"
-Sonic turned around and smiled. "Yes ma'am? What can I help you with?"
"Well, I was just wondering...what made you decide to get a job if you don't mind me asking?"
"Not at all! I decided to get a part-time job so my friends could stop giving me money," He was about to turn around when the lady made a puzzled face.
"That seems to be a small reason for even getting a part-time job. Isn't there another...um...a more major reason?"
"Uh...yes, but that's not something that should be mentioned to the public," Sonic never really did mind when people would talk to him and ask him questions while he worked, but talking to this woman made him feel uncomfortable.
"Oh...well do your friends know you work here at a restaurant?"
"No ma'am they don't," Sonic fought the urge to scratch his head nervously. "Not that it matters anyway. The only reasons they would come to a restaurant is if they were on a date or if there was some kind of meeting one of us were to host."
-The lady nodded and checked her watch on her left wrist. "Don't you think having a job would affect everyone badly?"
-Sonic perked his ears and shifted the weight of his feet. "What do you mean by that?"
-Fleetway grabbed Sonic's shoulders and brought his head next to Sonic's. "Just leave! She shouldn't be asking such stupid ass questions about what you do."
-Sonic rolled his shoulders back to get Fleetway to let go. It's fine, Fleetway. Back off. Sonic had his arms wrapped around the tray as he waited for the lady to speak.
"It's just that...what if something happens and you're here?"
"Ma'am, I have a right to leave my post if something bad happens."
"Yes, I understand. But what happens if there's something happening on the other side of Mobius?"
-Sonic sighed and tried to calm himself. "If something did happen on the other side of the world then my friends would notify me and take care of it until I get there."
"Is there a problem?" Another waiter came in and looked at Sonic.
"No, sir. This kind lady was just asking a few questions," Sonic replied.
"If she's asking about your personal stuff you can just leave," The waiter remarked. "We need to get other people's orders in."
"Yes, sir," Sonic turned and walked into the kitchen with his ears flattened. He took he notepad out and ripped out the page with the order as he set it down with the other ripped out papers the chefs would get. He then grabbed a few more menus and went to the next table to do the same thing.
-Fleetway stayed close by while avoiding people that ran by. He grunted and started rubbing his back. "How long do you work here?"
-Another two hours. Sonic walked back into the employee lounge seeing that no one else had come in and sat in one of the chairs. There were four other employees in there as well and they were all in deep conversation with one another. Sonic sighed and looked at the clock as it ticked.
"I still want to know," Fleetway flew over and sat by Sonic. "It's been a week now."
-Sonic watched as a minute passed and sighed. Maybe not while I'm at work?
"But you're not working right now!" Fleetway whined. "I'm not gonna stop asking until you answer you know."
-Sonic leaned onto the chair and looked at Fleetway. Okay fine. I don't really feel comfortable saying this but the reason I didn't like you that much was...uh...you were...Sonic coughed and sat up straight as he popped his back. You know how I saw you. You kept encouraging me to do bad things and caused me to hurt my friends every time you take over my body. It ended up being annoying and unpleasant.
"That's not the reason!" Fleetway retorted. "You tell me that all the time. If those were the real reason then I wouldn't have asked," He sighed and rubbed his temples. "Just please tell me the real reason."
-Sonic's tail twitched as his expression had hardened. What do you mean!? Why else would I've felt that way!? His expression softened again when Fleetway closed his eyes and shook his head.
"Never mind," Fleetway walked out as someone had opened the door and left.
-Sonic perked his ears and turned to look at the other four employees. "Can you guys tell the boss I have to go? There's uh...something going on with Eggman I need to check in with Tails," It wasn't a complete lie. He wanted a bigger reason for leaving work early.
-One of them nodded. "What's he doing?"
"Something bad," Was all Sonic said before he went and got undressed in the small bathroom in the corner. He then ran out and tried to find Fleetway. Come on Fleetway! Don't be like this! He kept running until he saw Shadow again with Fleetway standing by a tree in front of him. Fleetway was slowly going behind the tree when Shadow looked in his direction.
"Sonic, he can see me!"
-Shadow then turned around and faced Sonic. Sonic's ears drooped as he tried to see through Shadow's unreadable expression. He can actually see you!?
-Fleetway quickly flew and hid behind Sonic. "He said 'Hello again' to me."
-Sonic tensed as Shadow started walking up to them. He crossed his arms and just stood there as if he was waiting for Sonic to speak. Sonic gulped and smiled awkwardly. "Hey Shadow! W-what are you doing here?"
