Chapter Twenty-three

-Everyone was hiding around Eggman's landscape perimeter, split a part from the others. The only ones who weren't able to come because they had to stay with Amy were Ray, Cream, Marine, and Espio while everyone else went to Eggman's base. Sonic and Fleetway were hiding behind the trees with Shadow and Bunnie, waiting for Tails' signal to run in.
-Fleetway was bouncing his leg impatiently with his arms crossed. "What's taking so long?" He whispered.
"You aren't invisible to everyone anymore, Fleetway," Sonic reminded. "You can't just sneak in without anyone noticing you. You have to wait for an opening."
"Just be patient, sugar hog," Bunnie said quietly. "Tails knows what he's doing."
"It really shouldn't take this long though," Shadow cut in. "I should've been the one to look for an opening."
"Yeah, but Tails' tails are quiet," Sonic pointed out. "Your jet shoes are too loud."
"I wouldn't need to fly to do so."
"Either way Tails' got this," Sonic assured them. "He's just being cautious."
"Kinda boring though," Fleetway muttered.
"Think smart, Fleetway, not stupid," Sonic sneered. "This isn't the time to look for fun. Even I have to act serious."
"Ya'll keep it down and look," Bunnie pointed at the sky. "Tails is circling the roof."
"Then let's go!" Sonic immediately ran with his super speed to the building. When he got there he braced him and ran up the wall until he was on the roof. He looked around and saw a box which the A.C. unit was connected to. He went over and shut it off so he would be able to go through the vents.
"We're going in there?" Fleetway asked after he flew onto the roof.
-Sonic removed the screen and threw it aside. "Breaking and Entering 101: The vents are less likely for you to be spotted," He turned the fan but there was no way for him to fit through. "Dammit!"
"Hold on," Fleetway went over and grabbed onto the fan. While grunting he managed to pull it clean off and threw aside. "That should do it!"
-Sonic nodded and crawled inside the vent. He found himself immediately falling down the down part of the vent and landed face first at the bottom. Before he could get up Fleetway had fallen on top of him.
"Argh! Fleetway!"
"Hey, that's payback for falling on me this morning," Fleetway giggled. "Now move! I don't know where to go."
-Sonic crawled forward and glared at Fleetway. "Just be careful," He warned. "There are some parts you can fall through."
"Gotcha."
-Sonic was crawling through the vent and was looking through any screens that showed different rooms. He was looking for Eggman's main lab to meet Tails so they could hack into Eggman's system, erase the blueprints, and find the death weapon and destroy it. Sonic past by another screen and looked through it. He saw Silver, Blaze, and Antoine fighting back robots and dodging lasers from the security cameras. Where are the other villains? Sonic shook his head and kept on going.
-They finally found the main lab and his heart sank. Tails was already there, surrounded by Scourge and the Destructix. Tails' expression showed his bravery but his ears and tails were drooped downwards.
"Nice to see you again, Tails," Fiona said in a calm voice. "How have you been?"
"Don't try to act nice, Fiona!" Tails spat. "I'm not little anymore!"
"That's what you think," Scourge cut in. "Where's your hero hm? Is he too scared to come here with you?"
"He's not the one afraid," Tails sneered.
-Flying then shot forward and brought his face to Tails'. "Oh looky! The foxy poxy is here to play! You wanna play with me-he-he?"
-Sonic was about to move when Fleetway had accidentally pushed Sonic into the screen and he fell on top of it on the floor with a loud clang! Everyone turned and looked as Sonic sat up and glared at Fleetway who was still in the vent. "Are you kidding me right now!?"
"Oops," Fleetway drew back when Scourge walked up to Sonic.
-Sonic stood up and crossed his arms as Scourge moved his sunglasses from his forehead to over his eyes. "Didn't think you'd show up."
"Since when have I not?" Sonic muttered. "I'm always going to come when things go down."
"It's a good thing, though," Scourge smirked. "Cause I still need to beat your ass for what you did to us!"
-Scourge then punched Sonic in the gut that threw him over to the wall. Sonic managed to move when Scourge attacked and foolishly trapped himself in a corner.
"Get him, babe!" Fiona yelled.
"Reclaim my honor that he took away from me years ago!" Called Lightning.
"Just knock him out," Simian said in an emotionless manner.
-Scourge was underneath the open vent, so Fleetway had leaped out and landed on top of Scourge. Before Scourge could see what was happening Fleetway had stood up and threw him out to the others. Tails took this chance and ran over to Sonic while Fleetway did the same.
-Scourge managed to stand up as he glared at Fleetway. "Who the hell are you!?"
-Fleetway popped his knuckles as he glared back at Scourge. "It's a shame you don't know me," He said. "Because I know you."
"What are you talking about?" Scourge growled.
"Doesn't matter," Fleetway set his arms down as he smirked insanely. "What matters is you hurt my brother, and now I have to hurt you!"
-Sonic shook his head and looked past them at the computers. Just don't kill any of them. We don't need to spill blood and we don't have the time either. Keep them distracted.
-Fleetway nodded and tackled Scourge onto Predator that knocked them both down. Lightning and Simian went to attack but Fleetway had attacked first and prevailed. Flying had wrapped his long tongue around him and lifted him up in the air.
"Not so powerful are ya, goldy?" His words were muffled.
-Fleetway laughed out loud and glared at Flying. "You're a fool!" He had dug his claws into Flying's tongue, which caused him to let go and retract it back into his mouth. Fleetway then side kicked him and looked at Fiona. "You! I remember you. You also broke my brother's heart!"
-As Fleetway attack Fiona, Sonic and Tails had ran for the computers. While Tails immediately started hacking into the system, Sonic had turned and kept watch. "Don't stop for anything. Fleetway has them distracted, and if any of them come here I'll take care of it."
-Right as he said that Predator had charged at him and pinned him to the wall. Fleetway had turned and was about to go to Sonic, but he shot him a look. Focus on them! I'll be fine. Fleetway nodded and returned to what he was doing while Sonic chuckled in front of Predator's face. "I'm not your prey today!" He curled up into a ball and used his homing attack on him, throwing him all the way to the other wall.
"I'm in!" Tails shouted.
"Great! Now erase the files and we can look for the others and destroy the weapon!"
"Not on my watch, hedgehog!"
-A blast of purple energy struck Sonic and pinned him on the wall. Sonic was struggling as he looked at the one who did this. Sonic was surprised to see a white echidna with black eyes, Doctor Finitevus. Sonic glared at him as he kept struggling to get out of the purple energies grip. "Do you really think this can hold me!?"
"Long enough for me to stop the fox," He aimed the palm of his hand at Tails as he was about to erase the files.
-Sonic kept wriggling around in an attempt to break out, but it was no use. He turned and looked as Fleetway had kicked Scourge in his chest. "Fleetway! Help Tails!"
-Fleetway immediately shot up and tackled Finitevus. Finitevus was caught off guard but he managed to retaliate by blasting the energy on Fleetway and he collapsed onto the floor. Finitevus walked up to Fleetway and examined him before he looked at Sonic.
"Risking other person's lives to save others? I would think you'd know better than that."
-Sonic wasn't upset or intimidated by Finitevus' words, he was mad. He finally stopped struggling and glared at him. "You damn rat!"
-Finitevus laughed and started to walk away when Fleetway quickly dug his claws into his ankle. Finitevus yelled out and looked down at his leg. Fleetway was giggling as he looked up at his face.
"Surprise!" Fleetway then flew up while keeping his grip on Finitevus and threw him over to the Destructix. He waited until Finitevus looked at him before he floated down on the floor and began speaking. "Did you really think that would kill me? Let me tell you something, echidna. I am the embodiment of Chaos Energy, and there's nothing you can do to harm me!" Every single one of them didn't bother to get back up when they realized who they were dealing with.
-Sonic sighed in relief knowing they could catch a break. He then whistled to get Fleetway's attention and started wiggling. "Can you get me out of here now?"
-Fleetway ran over and examined the purple aura. After a split second he sliced through it with his claws and Sonic fell down, but Fleetway caught his arms before he hit the ground.
"Thank you!" Sonic said enthusiastically. He ran back over to Tails and leaned over his shoulder. "You almost done?"
"Am now!" Tails cheered as the screen said No available files. He turned back around and saw how everyone had stayed down on the floor. "Whoa! You really know what you're doing, Fleetway."
"You've seen what I've done to Knuckles that one time I took over Sonic's body," Fleetway pointed out. "Plus, I remember everyone here and I've wanted so badly to fight them!"
"Focus, Fleetway," Sonic reminded him. "That's one box checked off the list. Now we need to find the others so we can destroy the death weapon."
"You won't be able to!" Fiona yelled out. "There's more than just us. You won't be able to find that weapon. Just give up!"
-Sonic sighed and shook his head as he looked at Fiona. "You do realize Eggman's destroying the world don't you? What is he even offering to you guys anyway if we would all be dead?"
"He was going to give us salvation," Finitevus replied. "He had found another planet that he would take us to and watch Mobius explode."
"Yeah, that sure sounds look Eggman," Sonic said sarcastically. "He's not going to hold on to his end of the deal."
"You forget most of us are stronger than he is," Scourge snapped. "And he knows it!"
"Whatever. Let's get moving!" Sonic ran out the room room and was almost shot by one of the security camera lasers. He immediately hopped back in and smiled awkwardly at Tails and Fleetway. "Whoops!"
-Tails giggled and pulled out a remote. "I still have my little micro planes. They'll take out the cameras," He pushed a button and a swarm of small micro planes came out from the remote. They looked like robotic paper airplanes, and Sonic remembered when Tails used them back on his first days being on Earth. They all shot through the hallway and sounds of crashing sounded from them. Tails put his remote up and ran out the door. "Come on!"
-Sonic and Fleetway quickly followed in behind as the micro planes kept destroying the cameras. They had ran into Knuckles, Mighty, Vector, and Charmy and stopped.
"You erased the files?" Knuckles asked.
"Yep!" Sonic said proudly. "We're now gathering up everyone to find the actual weapon."
"Great!" Charmy cheered. "Some of them are behind us while the other half are all the way on the other side of the building."
"How's uh...he holding up?" Knuckles looked at Fleetway.
"He's managed to beat the Destructix and Finitevus by himself," Sonic assured him. "They didn't bother to stop us after we ran out."
"Can we not?" Tails cut in. "We need to find the others. Vector, Charmy, radio in the others and tell them to meet in the middle."
"Got it!" They both said as they grabbed their radios and began speaking to the others.
-Sonic stretched his arms and legs and felt his body relieving. "Let's move. We don't have much time."
"Oh, but I do."
-Sonic whipped his head around and his heart sank. He could not believe his eyes when he saw who had spoken. Infinite was floating in front of them, his Phantom Ruby glowing in a bright red and magenta. Sonic had backed up a bit from the aura he felt from the ruby. "How!? We destroyed the ruby and got rid of you!"
"The doctor was so kind to have fixed me up as a second chance," Infinite replied as he floated down to the ground. "I will not disappoint him this time. I'm not going to let any of you leave alive."
