Chapter Eight

-Sonic was silent when Shadow didn't answer his question. Shadow was just standing there with his eyes narrowed, looking passed Sonic at Fleetway. Sonic felt his arm twitch from being nervous. Fleetway was behind Sonic, holding his shoulders and carefully peeking his head out from behind Sonic. Sonic had his gaze locked with Shadow's. He doesn't really---
"Yes he does!" Fleetway whispered. "He looked and spoke to me."
-Sonic put one hand on his hip and narrowed one eye. "I asked you a question, Faker."
"Don't call me that," Shadow sneered. "When were you going to mention him?" He pointed passed Sonic, but Sonic didn't bother looking back.
"I have no idea what you're talking," Sonic lied. "There's no one else here."
"Don't try and act stupid like you always do. I'm talking about Fleetway."
-Fleetway hid further behind Sonic. "Sonic!" He pleaded to him.
"Prove it to me then," Sonic pestered. 
"Yellow with red eyes," Shadow crossed his arms. "His gloves and shoes are the same as yours but torn and worn out, and his fur is untidy."
"I prefer it to be fluffy," Fleetway mumbled.
-Sonic tried to make himself look unconvinced. He had spent years trying to keep Fleetway a secret, and he wasn't about to let his own rival figure him out and tell the others. "I still don't believe you," Shadow then ran up and punched Sonic in the face, knocking him down towards the side. Sonic skidded across the ground and glared at Shadow. "WHAT THE FUCK!?" 
-Shadow popped his neck and glared back at Sonic. "Quit trying to lie to me!" Shadow growled. "I'm not as stupid as your other pathetic friends."
-Sonic jumped up and walked right up to where his nose almost touched Shadow's. "Don't you dare call my friends pathetic!" He shouted. "Unlike you, my friends have manner and respect!" He pushed him back but Shadow did nothing. Fleetway started walking to Sonic but looked at him. Stay back! I'll get rid of him. Fleetway stopped and just flattened his ears.
-Shadow turned and looked at Fleetway. "Why is he trying to keep you a secret, huh?"
-Don't say anything! Sonic commanded. Fleetway just stood there keeping his mouth shut as he slowly backed up.
-Shadow's expression turned angry. "Both of you think I'm stupid to fall for this," He looked back at Sonic. "I saw him when we first met, Sonic."
"What do you mean?" Sonic could feel his heart sinking. "You never mentioned anything about him then."
"So you admit he's here then?"
-Sonic clasped his hand over his mouth in an instant. Me and my big mouth! He set his hand down and let Shadow continue talking.
"I didn't mention anything because you didn't," Shadow explained. "I had thought he was someone trying to ambush you but he just stood there and I was thinking maybe you didn't notice. But every time I saw you he was always there beside you."
-Sonic sighed and walked over to Fleetway. "Okay you can see him, but how?"
"He's made up Chaos energy," Shadow then eyed Fleetway. "I can see anything made up of Chaos energy and he has so much of it that it created a body for him. Just not enough for everyone to see him like Chaos himself."
-Sonic was shocked upon hearing this information. He shook his head and looked at Fleetway. So that's why you were able to touch Rough. That Chaos Emerald was the reason. 
-Fleetway nodded. "I guess."
-Shadow's right ear twitched as his expression turned subtle. "I've also notice that he can read your mind, Sonic."
"What makes you say that?" Sonic growled.
"Calm yourself," Shadow warned. "I always see your expressions change whenever he talks to you. He would ask you questions and without you saying anything he got the answers. To me it's pretty obvious."
-Fleetway looked at Sonic nervously. "Son---"
-Sonic tightened his fists. Hush! He made a big inhaled and sighed. "So what are you going to do about it then, huh?" He questioned Shadow. "You have this information in your clutches now and I'd like to know."
-Shadow's expression had not changed a bit in the silence. Sonic was getting aggravated and was about to open his mouth when Shadow finally spoke. "Nothing."
-Sonic straightened in shock. "What do you mean nothing!? You could easily use this against me! What's even the point of learning this if you're never going to use it?"
"Shut up, Sonic!" Fleetway sneered. "Quit giving him ideas!"
-Sonic stifled a growl as Shadow started speaking again. "First, answer me why you've been keeping Fleetway a secret from everyone else."
-Sonic shook his head and started walking towards Fleetway. "That's none of your damn business!" He seethed as he grabbed Fleetway's arm. "Come on. Let's hurry up and get home. I need to talk Tails," He started pulling Fleetway until he followed willingly and headed towards their hut, but Shadow stood in their way.
"Don't back out on me," Shadow scorned. "I demand to know."
"Why do you need to know!?" Sonic growled. "Fleetway is not your concern; He's mine!" He placed a hand on Shadow's chest. "Now get out of my way!" He pushed Shadow out of his way and started walking away when Shadow had already rammed himself into Sonic, knocking him forward into the ground.
"The Hell did you just try to do?" Shadow snapped. He stepped forward but Fleetway had tried to push him only to have his body phase right through Shadow and fell onto the ground. He grasped his back and Shadow had narrowed one eye at him. "What was that?"
-Fleetway sat on his knees while keeping his hand on his back. "Be glad there isn't a Chaos Emerald, otherwise I would've thrown you into that tree!"
"I have a Chaos Emerald," Shadow pulled out a red Chaos Emerald and showed Fleetway.
"What!?" Fleetway's eyes were wide. "But how!? I was able to throw Rough when that other one was there!"
-Shadow put the emerald away and looked down at Sonic. Sonic dug his fingers into the dirt and braced himself for another attack. Shadow was just standing there, though, staring directly into Sonic's eyes. "I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, Sonic," Shadow said calmly. "I merely want to know the truth," He sighed and turned his head away from Sonic. "If you do not wish to tell me then so be it, but know that I wouldn't dare reveal Fleetway to the others."
-Sonic sat up right and looked at Fleetway. Should I? Fleetway only replied by shrugging his shoulders. Sonic looked at Shadow and stood up. Shadow turned and looked at him as Sonic cleared his throat. "Fine---fine I'll tell you," He then looked into Shadow's eyes while keeping his expression stern. "But you have to promise me you'll never tell anyone, no matter what."
-Shadow nodded. "As you wish. I just want everything I've been wondering about for the passed eighteen years I've known you to be answered."
"Yeah, Why don't you want anyone knowing of me?" Fleetway asked almost sounding hurt.
-Sonic flattened his ears and looked at Shadow. "Okay, here's the reason why I kept him a secret..."
