After Jess' birthday, we settled into our new normal with each other, which was anything but normal. When we weren't on set, we were spending almost all of our free time with each other. It was a constant struggle for me to keep my feelings in check when I was around her, but I was terrified to take things further than we already had.
We were stuck in a cycle of flirting shamelessly while we were on set and getting to know each other on a deeper, much more intimate level, when we were alone. We were more comfortable showing our emotions when others were around, like our costars and production assistants were our chaperones, making sure things didn't go too far.
Behind closed doors, our relationship transformed. We told each other our deepest, darkest secrets from growing up. We shared our fears, and our hopes and dreams for the future. And no matter how much I promised myself I wouldn't, I started picturing a future with her. I imagined how the pieces of our lives could fit together. And I tried to come up with a reason of why things with her couldn't work. What had already started off as a short list rapidly dwindled down to nothing the more I got to know her.
One morning in early October, Mikey, Miles and I were filming a scene that took place in Jason's apartment for several hours before Jess arrived on set to join us.
One of the best parts of filming that movie was how much of it was improv and unscripted. All we had to do was hang out with each other - in character - and act like it was a normal Friday night hanging out with friends.
I loved being able to make her laugh and having it all captured on film.
After a few hours, we had to take a break so Jessica's makeup could get retouched.
I was leaning against the counter, surveying the scene, lost in my own little world. Every so often, my gaze would shift to her while they applied makeup she didn't need and she reviewed instructions for the scene with a production assistant. She was radiant and effortless.
