Teen Choice Awards
Please welcome the stars of the upcoming blockbuster Pitch Perfect, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Jessica Vanderbilt.
I couldn't tell you anything about what Anna or Brittany were wearing the night of the Teen Choice Awards...but I will never, ever forget Jessica in that little black dress. She was, without a doubt, the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, or dreamed up in my wildest dreams.
She had recently signed on to costar in my next movie, That Awkward Moment, and we were a little over a month away from shooting. We'd had a screen test and a few table reads at that point, and unfortunately, nothing that had transpired during them had done anything to dispel the serious crush I had on her. And, she still had the same boyfriend...according to an article I'd read late one night, not long before the Teen Choice Awards. They'd been together for four years and had just purchased a massive house in Beverly Hills.
"We are presenting the award for choice movie actor...in a drama," Jessica said, and my heart began to race. That was my award category. Fuck.
"Even though teen's lives are full of drama, it's amazing how much we still love seeing it in other people's lives, whether its on TV or in a movie," Anna said.
"Here are the five guys who put it out there the best," Brittany finished.
Choice Movie Actor...Drama
Zac Efron
Ryan Gosling
Matt Damon
Justin Timberlake
Channing Tatum
"And your choice movie actor in a drama is..." Jessica said, and all three of them turned to the screen to see who the winner was. My palms were sweaty. My heart felt like it was going to break free from my chest. It was beating against my rib cage that hard. I wasn't sure why, but it had absolutely nothing to do with that award. Who am I kidding? Of course I knew why.
Zac Efron
Fuck no. Now what?
I made my way up to the stage and tried to play it off as cool as possible, but I thought I was going to faint from nerves. What should I say? What should I do with my hands? Should I hug her? Kiss her on the cheek? Shit, I was probably also supposed to give a speech or something.
Zac Efron always wins for Choice Actor in a Romance Movie. for The Lucky One and The Lucky One is your Choice Movie Drama
Damnit. I got up to the stage, and the award girl was standing in my way - directly in-between Jess and I - holding that giant surfboard. There was no way around it. I picked up the surfboard and was crushed on the inside that a few brief seconds of contact with her had been stolen from me. Shit. What was I supposed to say?
