Chapter 3

We had travelled all through the night, bringing the joyous sun to welcome our new fair day. I thought of what it would have been like for the other merfolk who had been chosen anything other than Gilded. My brother now would have been set various tasks of a Lotus, they were calm people and i could see how Cato fit into them.

When the new morning came upon us we had made it to a small island that was in reach of the land humans call Australia. The island was named Merrow Island after one of our sea goddesses Merrow culi. The island was once a home of a pod, a big family pod of Aqua's were on the islands but humans had gotten too close and they fled.

"So this is Merrow Island?" Nixie asked.

I nodded "Yes. You have to admit it is beautiful bibic" Nixie shot be a warning look but she knew i was just playing around. The island was small, surrounded by a golden beach and the sea came quietly just came lightly over the sand. The island had a dominant volcano which was named Petruvi Volcano, but hasnt erupted in over 600 years.

"Inside the volcano is where the pod used to hide, its a massive pool and you can see right up to the sun and when the moon comes out it reaches above the volcano. Appearently merfolk say that there is a hidden peice of the tablet and a secret passage to some unknown place that the pod here kept quiet about" Echo told us.

"Great, well how are we going to get on to land?" Maya asked.

Everybody shrugged, but i was already making my way to shore. I didnt turn my head as i swam but kept swimming until i met the sand with my aqua blue tail. With that i grabbed hold of the sand with my bare fingers and lunged myself towards the sand pulling myself away from the sea and pushing myself towards the land.

"Come on guys! Dont you want to get legs?!" I shouted.

The girls all looked at me and drove down into the sea, coming back up and swam towards me. As i gave myself one final push on to land i lay on the sand, my tail was covered in the golded sand and i no longer felt completely moist as the sun started to dry up my tail.

"Is this even safe?" Melody questioned me as she started to pull herself to the shore.

"Must be! Many mer's have done this before us! Like the Gemini's they always do this going on to land, experiencing legs" Echo said, she took in a deep breath and gave herself one final push on to land "Dont you want to be like a Gemini?"

"Well, i dont want to be like a Gemini. Or a gilded, or a coral. I just wanted to be the mer i wasnt meant to be and that is not Gilded!" she screamed.

I huffed and looked towards them as my tail started to become drier, "Guys? Will you please stop fighting? The quicker we dry our tails have a go at legs and find some shelter is only going to happen if we all co-operate!"

Nixie looked towards me and smiled, her black tail was starting to disappear and so was mine "I will co-operate, but we need to learn how to walk before we can ever enter the human world. This means no going near water and no fratternising with humans" She pointed at us every time she said the water,as if it was a selkie sin.

"Tomorrow, we start looking" I said.

My tail was completely gone, so was my aqua top that matched. I was stark naked, now i saw why humans had worn their clothes, but we also had clothes. Only a simple seaweed overlayer and a habeo dress that was only worn for a tradition habeo feast.

"This is discusting!" Maya said standing up.

It was "I hope we won't be stuck like this forever" I said.

Nixie and Melody huffed standing up "We need to get some human clothes. Anything that will make us look human and blended in" Nixie said.

We all agreed and dove back into the sea, human clothes.

We swam to what humans called the harbour, boats and small fishing nets surrounded the area. A boat and a net was a mers worst nightmare we swam in silent motion not making a single splash when coming up to shore, when we reached the harbour we saw racks of clothes. Some dresses like ours, I grabbed a navy blue dress that looked like my habeo dress. Blue and simple, but my things were back on Merrow.

The other 5 grabbed some clothes and we quickly changed into them, "Does the make us look like a human?" I asked.

"This better,we barely know how to walk and we are going to enter a world without magic. What could go wrong!" Maya said sarcastically.

We I tied my hair up with a small dried kelp bobble. I put a small plait around it and began to walk, I took my steps but I didn't make me look like a human, I grabbed quickly into Echo and she nearly fell over "We're about to enter a world with danger and this is how you walk?" Echo told me.

I punched her lightly and let go of her arm, and tried to walk again. It was easier this time but it was still hard.

How could humans do this?
