Chapter 4

"I hate walking!" Addison cried out as we walked.

We groaned, we had been walking for hours. In and out out of human places, looking for the simplest peice of the tablet, yet we had nothing. If we kept walking our feet would finally fall off, i had felt groggy like a walrus "Look we need to take a break" Maya said."Fine, we find some place to rest our legs and afterwards we look again" I say.

We all nod in agreement, with that i hold on to Echo as i feel as if my legs would fall off. We all walk around trying to dodge the humans and their small object vehicles, it turns out to be harder than expected ,small dog creatures and humans on their vehicles nearly crash into us several times.

"Look a cafe! Its like how we have our cafes!" Nixie says "So we get them off humans?"

I smile and look at the sign, 'Ocean Beach Cafe', it was along a path that went up to the sea. Humans sat outside and a small doorway was placed on the side of the building, the building was the colour of a sea urchin. Pale cream, "Well this must be where humans socialize" I said.

"Must be, humans do som weird stuff sometimes. Like using a moon wave just to surf!" Echo told us. We all looked towards her as she spoke, we knew humans could surf. Like how we surfed currents when we were little "What? So i practiced my powers big whoop!"

"Echo, only Opallias can create moon waves on the eve of the full moon" Nixie pointed out.

I huffed and walked towards the cafe, my legs nearly giving up. How could humans do this? It was impossible to keep away from water when we were so close to the sea "We should better get inside, it looks like these waves can get rough. And you know what that means" I pointed out.

Maya and Nixie walked side by side nearly running in with their legs burning red. But humans could need a rest sometimes, like how mer needed to rest after hours of swimming at 100mph. When we entered the building all i could hear was the humans, laughter, talking, shouting and their feet shuffling against the floor.

As we looked around i saw many ocean paintings and pictures a human boy came up to us with what looked to be human parchment paper "Hello ladies, how are we today?" The human boy said.

He looked our age, maybe a year or so older. I was the one to asnwer first "Exhausted, tiered we have been walking all day!" I complained

He smiled and looked at Echo, she looked up and her eyes met his. "I'm Ethan and I havent seen you guys around here. Have you just moved to the area?"

"Um, yeah. We just moved, Im Echo" My best friend said to Ethan. At that moment i noticed Echos eyes light up with happiness. Something i hadnt seen from her in a very long time, the boy Ethan was a tanned colour with green eyes and messy curly hair.

Echo and Ethan couldnt keep their eyes off of each other. It looked as if my best friend had fallen for a worthless land boy.

Ethan had escorted us to a table and which we all sat down surrounded by other humans "So what can I get you guys today?" He asked.

We all stared blankly "Food, drink?" He said again.

Then we got it "Just some water please" Addison said, we all nodded in agreement and then the land boy left, but Echo couldn't keep her eyes off of him. Addison kept looking at a particular piece of painting on the wall, but when I looked in her direction I realised it wasn't a painting.

"Is that what I think it is?" I say. The girls all nodd, I walk up towards the piece of tablet and look at the inscription on it 'In the eye, all we see, is the true destiny' it read. But the language wasn't mermish or English, it was an ancient language of the mer. Maidiac, as I went over the words some small carvings of shell fish were carved into it.

I touched the tablet but something blocked it like a force field, but I just kept reciting the words "In the eye, all we seem is the true destiny"

"What does that mean?" Echo asked when she stood next to me. I shrugged and kept staring and touching at it, I couldn't get to it. But the boy Ethan saw us and quickly ran over to where we stood.

"Beautiful isn't it?" Ethan says "We found it a few months ago, we went diving and found it just lying at the bottom of the reef. Nobody knows what it is, there's another piece at school in the principals office"

"School?" Echo and I both say.

"Uh yeah, won't you be going to school at Beachside if you just moved here?"

We both nodded and he smiled at the answer, afterwards the land boy left. "Looks like we're going to get 2 pieces of the tablet in one day. If we go on like this, we can get all the pieces of the tablet at before the next full moon"
