Chapter 26

I swam until my eyes were burning from the salt water. Every so often I came up to cry, Merfolk couldn't cry under the water and when we had to we always went above the water. "He doesn't understand" I said to myself as I dove back under the water.

I had swam for ages, yet I wasn't tiered. I had made my way to the reefs and was greeted by the fish that lived in the reefs, I sat on a small sand part right next to a small coral reef and the fish came towards me in a fast motion.

I smiled, at least the fish weren't mad at me.

The hours started to roll by but I wasn't in the mood to come up to the surface any time soon. But that was when I saw my brother, Cato. He was in the reefs and staring at something, I tried to look but some kelp was blocking my view. I swam towards him, Cato smiled and I looked at what he was looking at, Zach.

I made a motion with my hands to indicate that we needed to rise. We did and yet i wanted to tell Cato everything i couldnt because Zach was here, three blue tails, three creatures of the sea and 2 true mers "Who is he?" Zach asked as we bobbed our heads out of the water.

"Hes my brother Cato" I said "And why would you care? I wont get to see him again after the full moon so you can go and swim land boy while i talk to my brother"

Zach frowned "Well sorry to burst your happy family reuinion but the ocean is big enough for all of us. But sorry anyway, about you never seeing him again" He said "And not about me ruining your chances of getting this necklace"

He then dove back under with Cato and i left in the silence "Who was that Lyla?" Cato asked "Was he from another region, i have never seen that Merman before"

I shook my head "Oh Cato, i have a story to tell you"

We swam across to the docks, finding some spare clothes for Cato once we had dried. I was nervous, Cato had never been on land and he had no control like he did in the mer world. But once we found a beach i kept my arm up i the air trying to keep his new clothes dry but when we got to the beach i helped drag him on shore and then i dried us off with my powers.

"How do you like land life?" Cato asked me as i used my powers on his tail, i shrugged and kept using my heat powers on his tail "Whats wrong with it?" he asked.

"Nothing" I shrugged "Its just, we have all the tablet pieces except the one Zach had on. We are not going to get it now, he knows i lied to him but it was only to protect him. Land boys are so hopeless, they dont unerstand anything, why a girl cant hide some truth in order to protect them. I will never see mother or you again after the full moon!"

I started to cry and then once Cato had gotten his legs he put his land boy clothes on. I heated myself and i was back to being Lyla the Land Girl, Shaylas most hated person was me. But once we were on our feet i took hold of Cato's arm to make sure he was able to steady himself into walking.

"Im fine Lyes. I am nearly a full merman, i can take care of myself" He said to me.

I laughed "Yeah, i full merman. Not a land man, Cato. I need to make sure you know whats right from wrong and how to not make a clam of yourself without anybody getting suspictious of what we are"

"But it cant be that hard can it?"

"Cato, you wouldnt know your knifes from your forks"

He raised his eyebrows and we came to a halt "Whats that?"

"See what i mean?"

He smiled and we both laughed, i was happy and nervous. Both of us, brother and sister. My closest family member, but after the full moon i would never see him again.
