"IS THIS YOU admitting that you do in fact have feelings and you aren't actually the cold hearted bitch that you make yourself out to be?" Emilia smirked, upon hearing about Rogers offer to drive Valentina home and how she felt the whole time.
Valentina laughed, "no. I'm not saying that I have feelings for him" she said it as if it was a vile word, "but I just think that I'm starting to like him in a more-than-just-friendly way." She spoke.
"So, you're getting feelings for him?" Emilia laughed, repeating what she had said earlier.
Valentina cringed a little, "okay. If you must call it that" she sighed. "Also, it's weird because we've slept together once, but we're not sleeping together now, but all the guys and Mary think we are" she explained.
"Well, that's probably because you act like you are? I mean, do you want to sleep with him again?" Emilia asked, a mischievous look danced across her face.
"Emilia!" Valentina scolded.
She laughed, "what? I'm just wondering" she gave an innocent smile. "Well, don't wonder.." Valentina replied quietly, trying not to think about Roger in an inappropriate way.
"That definitely means you want to sleep with him again..." she replied, looking chuffed with herself.
"Oh, fuck off. I've had enough of this conversation now. Can we just go and get lunch?" Valentina huffed, trying to move away from the subject of her feelings, which she very much hated discussing.
"Fine. Let's go!" Emilia said, as Valentina pulled on her boots and got ready to leave the flat.
It was a cold yet sunny Saturday, and the two women had decided to go out for lunch together. They chose one of their favourite cafe's, and spent the whole time chatting about anything and everything. When the sun started to reach a lower point in the sky, Valentina bid farewell to Emilia outside the cafe and started her short walk home. When she arrived back at her flat, she immediately changed into some pyjama trousers and a large thick knitted sweater to fight of the chill. She switched the heating on in attempt to combat the freezing cold weather that seemed to find it's way in to the flat through every small gap.
Eventually, she was curled up on her sofa with a large mug of tea and her sketchbook, sketching out dress designs after dress designs, trying to create the perfect thing for her sisters bridesmaid dresses. The loud ringing of her telephone was what broke her out of a creative trance with a jump.
"Shit!" She muttered quickly as she jerked at the sound, before placing her pad and pencil down next to her.
She picked up the phone, "hello. Valentina speaking" she answered.
"Hey, it's Roger" she heard the familiar voice travel down the phone.
"What do you want Taylor?" She asked, happy that he had called but also irritated that he had interrupted her work.
"You sound annoyed. Is this a bad time?" He asked, sounding slightly concerned.
She sighed, "no, no. I was just working but I can get back to it" she explained.
"Oh good, because I called to ask you something.." he trailed off, sounding eager.
"And what's that? If it's about whether I want to go to the studio with you then yes-" she started but was interrupted.
"Actually, it's not that. I was, um, I was wondering whether you would like to go and see this movie that's playing at the pictures tomorrow..." he said, a hint of nervousness in his tone, something Valentina imagined that he somehow never felt.
Valentina's heart rate suddenly picked up, and she felt her cheeks flush with warmth. He wanted to take her out, as in, on a date. She had no idea whether to say yes or no, a part of her giddy and just wanted to accept, but the larger part was willing her to say no. She knew what happened after a date, things would go further, there would be more dates, and that's when all the messy feelings would appear.
"Uh, as in, a date?" Valentina managed to stutter. He had turned her into a mess.
"Well, yeah" Roger replied hesitantly.
Valentina was quiet for a few moments, "Roger.." she started.
He sighed on the other end, "no, it's okay. I get it. You're not into me like that" he sounded disheartened, and it broke her a little bit.
"No, no. It's not that" she hastily added, "it's just...well, I don't know if I can tell you yet" she said, aware she probably sounded stupid.
"Well, what is it? You can tell me anything" he said quietly, and this gave her some comfort.
"I, I don't want to show you that side of me. I don't want to say it, because I'll sound weak and dumb and stuff.." she continued, hating herself the more she spoke.
"No, you won't. Just tell me. I promise I won't judge you, whatever it is" Roger said, now confused as to what she was about to tell him.
"Okay" she took a breath, "I would like to go on a date with you, but I'm really scared to catch feelings for you." She cringed as she told him, glad it was over the phone and not face to face.
He paused for a long time, which only made her mind race at a hundred miles an hour. "That's okay. It doesn't have to be serious. It's just a film" he replied, his voice somewhat soft.
"Aren't you gonna ask me why?" She was a little shocked, but pleased by his response.
"No. Clearly you don't want me to know why, or at least not yet. Tell me when you feel like it" he replied in a comforting tone, and Valentina felt as though she could have melted there and then. Who knew that this guy, who came across very egotistic and cocky, could be so sweet.
"Thanks Rog. That means a lot. So, yes, I'll go to the movies with you" she sighed, this time with a small smile on her face.
"Great. I'll pick you up tomorrow at quarter to seven. Just a casual date, remember. Nothing big" he added, but she could tell he was probably smiling.
"Sounds good, drummer boy. See you tomorrow" she replied.
"Bye, Tina" he replied cheekily, but he hung up the phone before she could quip back at him.
She rolled her eyes and laughed a little as she put the phone down. She couldn't believe that she was doing it. She might regret it, but it could also turn out okay, and she'd never know if she didn't try.
