VALENTINA ARRIVED HOME from work the following Monday, throwing her handbag down on the small table by the door as she came in,
and kicking off her boots. She felt exhausted. She headed into the kitchen to make herself a large cup of tea, and what she saw on the table made her smile, but also confused her.

On the table sat a bunch of beautiful white roses in one of her vases that usually lived on the kitchen windowsill. It must have been Emilia, as she was the only person who knew where the spare key for her flat was. She frowned as she peered closer at them, to see that there was a note tied around the stems. She read the scrawled writing on it.

I hope you like them. Thank you for a lovely date last night. R.T x

She was a little shocked, but flattered. It was a very sweet romantic gesture, but she never took Roger for that kind of guy. However, this must be his attempt at winning her over, which was proving to be harder than he had imaged. Despite feeling slightly giddy with happiness, she was very confused as to how the flowers had made their way into her apartment. She turned to note over to reveal more writing.

p.s. please find a better place to hide your spare key, under the doormat is very obvious. Anyone could break in, like a drummer who wanted to deliver flowers for instance, so be careful.

She laughed a little at the message, and realised that perhaps hiding her spare key under her doormat was a little silly and possibly dangerous, so she would have to think of somewhere else to keep it. Valentina headed over to her phone, and dialled Rogers number.

When she heard him pick up she smirked, "thanks for the flowers, Taylor."

She heard a low chuckle, "you like them? I thought you might be terrified that I entered your flat to give them to you" he laughed.

"I was a bit confused, but you were right, my spare key is in a dumb place" Valentina laughed. "But you do realise that just because you did something romantic, it doesn't mean I'm going to fall head over heels for you at this second?" She joked.

"You're not? Well that's a big shame" Roger jokingly huffed, making her laugh. "I just wanted to do something cute, I know you're hesitant. It's not because of me though, is it?" Roger asked.

Valentina sighed, remembering long nights in which her ex would come home from the bar and shout at her for anything he could find that bothered him, degrading her with his words. His breath with smell of nicotine and spirits, and she would dread those nights. "No, it's not because of you" was all she could manage to say, "don't worry."

Roger paused, "okay. No pressure."

The two talked for a little while longer on the phone, but Valentina's mind had become clouded over with thoughts of when she would tell Roger the real reason why she was so hesitant. He deserved to know, but she felt afraid of telling him because she hated reliving those times, and she never wanted anybody to view her as weak.

Roger had turned up at Valentina's apartment the next day after she arrived home from work, claiming he had some 'very exciting news'. He sat down in the living room with her and proceeded to tell her that the band would be performing their song 'Killer Queen' on top of the pops later that week. Valentina grinned, feeling proud of the band. Although it would be their second performance on the show, she was still immensely proud that they were getting the recognition that they deserved.

She had agreed that she would go and watch them perform it and give a little moral support, and so on Friday afternoon at 3pm, she clocked off work early so that she could head to the BBC's studios to watch the band perform their song. When she got there, she saw the band setting up on a small stage, and Mary was with them. Valentina smiled as she headed over, "afternoon folks" she spoke, catching their attention.

"Tina! You made it" Roger smiled, bounding over to her. At this point, Valentina had given up on trying to get him to call her 'Val' instead. Strangely, she was getting less and less bothered by it each time he called her it.

"Hey V. I'm glad you're here. The boys are getting a little stressed" Mary greeted her, her eyes a little wide. She clearly had her hands full.

"Uh oh. What's the problem?" Valentina asked, turning back to Mary.

"My drums sound shit!" Roger exclaimed, a look of annoyance on his face.

"And their making us lip sync to our own bloody song!" Brian moaned.

"It's a disgrace darling" Freddie huffed. John stood in the back, and gave Valentina a sympathetic smile. She admired him in situations like this, as he was much more cool headed than the other boys.

Valentina and Mary shared an 'oh dear' sort of look with wide eyes, before turning back to the boys. "I'm sure it'll be fine. Just try your best boys. You're great at what you do, it shouldn't be hard to fake it a bit" she tried to reassure them, giving her best convincing smile.

"Thanks, Val" John smiled, appreciating that she was trying to be supportive, despite his other band mates getting stressed.

Soon, a man in a suit who was holding a clipboard approached the group. "We'll be starting in exactly two minutes. Take your places and get ready please" he announced.

"Do we have to lip sync?" Roger commented, with a groan.

"Yes, those are the rules. No one will know the difference." The man spoke in a posh accent.

"We'll know the bloody difference!" Brian argued.

"That's the way it is I'm afraid, so stop complaining. This is the BBC." The man said in a snobby tone before walking off.

"This is the BBC" Brian mimicked the mans accent, making Roger laugh.

Valentina held back a laugh, "go on, get ready guys" she prompted.

The men all went to their positions, Roger setting himself behind his drum kit and sighing as he bashed one with one of his drum sticks and it made a kind of tinny sound. Valentina gave a little thumbs up, trying to encourage him. To her relief, the pout vanished from his face and he shot her a cheeky wink.

The music soon started playing and the camera's were rolling. The boys did a good job of keeping in time with the track, and you couldn't really tell that they were lip syncing.

"Great job!" Valentina grinned when they finished.

"Thanks love" Roger smiled back.
