Both of us just sat in his car as it was parked in the school's parking lot. Not knowing what right thing I should do, I stayed quiet and still. If I stepped out his car, he might get mad and say I should wait for him. Instead, I pulled out my iPod and earphones.
"I want a real smile today." he said before I could plug the earpiece in my ear. I looked at my iPod first then turned to him.
"Sure." I muttered then tried to look for a song to play.
"I mean it, I want to see a smile." he said again.
"And I said 'sure." I told him.
"Can you stop making it hard for me? I am trying my best." he frustrated catching my full attention.
"What is it Mason? What is it you are trying to accomplish?" I said with a serious tone. I put my iPod back in my bag.
He sighed and gave me his fierce green-eyed look. "I am trying to be a boyfriend here. You are my girlfriend. We are in a relationship and you do as I say. I am trying my best here but you are making it difficult for me. We are a couple." he gritted his teeth.
"Are you, really, serious about this relationship thing? Because this is not how it works. You haven't even ask me on a date yet. You haven't even ask me to be your girlfriend, properly. You haven't even act like you're my boyfriend." I stated.
"I am serious. Remember, we made a deal that you do as I say, so I don't need to ask your permission to be my girlfriend. And I am here, like I said, trying my best to be a boyfriend." He said.
"Right, a deal. So we are basically pretending to be a couple, right?" I questioned him.
"We are not pretending. I am not pretending. If you want to pretend, then fine by me as long as everyone knows that you are mine. Now you play your part." he said to me. I faked a smile then looked at him. Because our face were inches apart, I gave him a peck on one cheek.
I slowly moved closer to his ear. "There, I played my part. Happy?" I whispered to his ears. I pulled back and waited for his response. He was quite shock. I never thought I would ever do that, especially when he is on my bad side.
I stepped out of his car when he didn't say anything. I waited for him as I leaned on the side of the hood. My back facing him. As soon as I heard a car door close, I felt movements were coming towards me. In surprise, he pulled me close to home and we started to walked away from his car.
The others were waking towards us. "Remember, I wanted to see a smile on that face." he said to me. As he ask, I gave. I smiled, for real, because I was happy to see my friends who are happily confuse as always wondering if Mason and I are out of our minds.
"Hey man!" Ryan greeted Mason with their guy hand shake.
"Hi Lily. Sup, Maze." Ron bobs his head at us. I smiled at their welcoming greets.
"Shall we?" Bridget said as she pulled my arm towards her. I was pulled back when I felt Mason intertwine our hands. I turned to look at him. "Mason, can I have her?" Bridget pulled me towards her, eyeing him.
"Not just yet." Mason pulls back. Seriously, they are going to tear me into two pieces before the bell could ring for class. Mason, unexpectedly, pulled my arms away from Bridget as he turned me around, facing him as both of my hands landed on his chest. He held both of his hands and snaked them around my waist. "Because you smiled. You may go." he whispered to my ears as we stood, hugging, though the hug was different from yesterday. Yesterday felt like he needed it. This time it felt passionate. I could stay in here forever. I feel so safe.
