The sun shines brightly through the small window in between the two neatly made beds belonging to me and my new roommate Rose. Today is the first day of classes, Nerves are circling my body but I'm also excited to start studying something I'm interested in. Psychology is frowned upon by a lot of teens in this day and age, But it shouldn't be. I was mostly interested in becoming a Therapist to help out others that are suffering with mental health, it's extremely important.

"Hey girl" Roselyn comes through the door fully dressed with wet hair, smiling as always. "Hi, I'm just thinking about the first day..It's very nerve-wracking" I laugh softly.

"I know, but it won't be as bad sooner or later. When is your first class?" She sits on the edge of her bed beginning to brush out her hair.

I find myself some socks and my black vans before beginning to put them on, "In about a half hour, Franz Hall. I'm going to scout the area first".

"Oh cool, I'm heading that way too. I'll join you, I could really do with some breakfast, Let me just dry off my hair." I nod and grab some books shoving them into a backpack.

---

"That was surprisingly quite nice" I compliment the food as we head across the grass towards the hall. "Yeah, I've heard mix reviews about campus food" She laughs.

The Franz Hall building looks huge compared to the rest, it's also quite busy. There are several people sitting on the grass, this place really is a busy campus. I say goodbye to Rose and agree to meet her in our dorm later today after classes.

There are a few vending machines on the same floor as my first lecture, so I take my time to grab a few snacks and place them into my bag.

"Hello" A male voice sounds behind me making me jump, I turn to see one of the boys who was arguing with someone in the halls last night, Colby if I remember correctly.

"Oh sorry, are you wanting to use the machine?" I laugh quietly moving to the side.

"No, I actually saw you coming into the building. I thought i'd apologise if we kept you up last night." He explains.

"Uh, No you didn't I uh..Was just going to shower" I nod and he joins me. "Oh right. Cool"

"I'm Colby by the way" He adds taking me away from my thoughts about being late for class, I look up at him. His dark hair falls onto his face and I notice his eyes are a deep shade of blue.
"This is usually where you tell me your name" He laughs and I widen my eyes.

"Sorry, I'm Aliyah" I laugh and he nods.

"Well Aliyah, Glad I cleared that up. I gotta head I'm late for class I'm also in the wrong building. Law building is a few blocks away" He turns around and heads off down the hall. I wave him off and head round to my class.

The lectures for the day aren't too long. I spent most of the time noteing every word the professor would say into a notebook before realising I'm barely taking it in. I will need to spend sometime looking over the notes tonight. I met Jake, a boy destined to become a therapist just like me, Although he did spend most our chats telling me he had a girlfriend in Kansas. I think he had the wrong impression of me.

"Hey what took you so long?!" Rose teases as I enter our dorm. Music plays through the room and my delivered boxes scatter around the floor. "Oh they arrived?!" I say excitedly putting my bag and bagel down that I picked up on the way back.

"Yes, But that's not the exciting thing. We're going to Santa Monica pier" She cheers.

"Uh, What? I have some studying to do" I shake my head and sit on the edge of my bed.

"No you have the whole semester to study. For one night let's just go make friends, trust me. Every year at the beginning of the year, Everyone meets at the pier for celebrations. I also looked at your schedule and your first class isn't till midday tomorrow." She whines and I laugh.

I think about visiting the pier and seeing more of LA for a few moments before I stand to my feet, "Alright fine, What do we wear?" She squeals and helps me unpack some of my boxes.
