"Where are we going?" I ask as we drive in silence. We've been driving down a straight road for around five minutes without speaking a word, it was becoming awkward.
Colby clears his throat before speaking, "Uh I actually just didn't want to be in a crowd. It's also pretty dark so maybe I could pull over at the side of the street and we just talk in the car?" He asks, I cant help but feel uneasy that he was driving for so long yet wants to stay inside the car. We could've done the same in a parking lot. I decide not to question it, "Sure sure" I glance over to him and notice his hair is falling onto his face now. In the dark light the bags under his eyes look more prominent too. I wonder how tired he is.
Eventually Colby pulls over to the side of the road on a quiet street, there are a few houses but most are in darkness. "Ok so how does this work? Are you going to ask me really deep questions and make shit uncomfortable so I can't just walk away since we're stuck in a car" he chuckles and I raise a brown, turning in my seat. "No, I'm actually just wanting to chat. Like I have questions that I need to ask for my project but I only received them today and I have no intentions of getting deep on the first session" He nods understandingly and awaits me to begin. "So uhm, I actually just want you to tell me a bit about yourself. Where you from, How old you are, Maybe even like why you're studying at UCLA?" I smile softly at him which he relaxes his shoulders from, I wonder if he really is nervous or he's just pissed that I'm asking questions.
"Kansas, I'm a sophomore so I'm 19 and uhm, My dad is a lawyer, it's interesting so here we are." He looks past me with no emotion on his face, I nod "Why UCLA?" I ask and he looks back at me. His eyes burning into mine, "Sam and I have been friends since high school, we're like brothers. We have this whole us against the world thing, like fulfil your dreams no holding back. LA gives us that opportunity. With that, UCLA being one of the best public schools in the US. We gave it a shot" I watch Colby's lips move as he speaks, every world sinking in. His hard cover doesn't match up with the way he speaks about his hopes. It's almost unbelievable.
"What about life in Kansas. Did you have a good childhood?" I smile when asking the question, the last thing I want is to find out he didn't have a good upbringing, the tension is unbearable enough. "Fine. Played in a marching band and didn't really socialise with many people. Wasn't into sport, I have a brother and we get on well." He replies bluntly but just enough.
"Ok I really don't want to go into much detail about feelings just yet so maybe we can talk about your friendship with Sam and" Colby interrupts with a snigger causing me to frown, "Feelings?" He questions and I nod, "Yes emotion." He looks away from me and turns in his seat to face out the window of the car, I fold my arms and mimic his actions.
"Can I ask why you act like you don't care?" I blurt out, I feel his gaze back onto me after the words escape my mouth.
"That is not the case. You don't know me A" He says, "Maybe I don't. Doesn't mean you have to be closed off when I'm trying to get to know you" As I continue he sits up in his seat, gripping the steering wheel. "I'm not being closed off. I've told you more in the last five minutes than I've told any college friends in the last year" The tension in the air thickens.
"Fine" I unfold my arms, placing my hands on my lap. "How do you know Jayde?" I ask just as silence fills the car and he restarts the engine. "Jayde? Jayde Urman" He laughs and I look at him, his eyes soften a little as he looks back towards me. "She confronted you about the beach didn't she?" He questions as he begins to move the car. "No she just told me she saw us together. But I did hear her calling you, fucked in the head." I fiddle with the bottom of my dress after I say it. He shrugs his shoulders, "She's just upset that I didn't want to fuck her twice" He startled me, causing me to cough. Colby chuckles, "I think we're done for the night" He says, turning the radio on to fulfil the silence in the car for the ride back to the dorms.

I am a little disappointed that my time with Colby is coming to an end. I can't seem to picture a second meeting in my head, I feel like he just wanted an excuse to get away from Jake and his friends. Understandable after their run in.
"Ok then, that's us here" He chirps, I can't help but notice his positive energy. Something I only have seen once before, the time I walked out my apartment and he joked about me and my mom's phone call. Which I quickly ruined.
"Thank you, by the way. For actually agreeing to be my client" I say as we reach the doors of the dorms. Walking in together Colby nods, "It's fine. Plus, you're not the worst company to be around. You're actually pretty chill. It's nice to have a female around who's not a complete and utter slut" He fakes a shocked sound and I giggle. We walk inside the elevator together, the halls being the most silent since I got here. "Sort of quiet for a Friday huh" I say as he presses our floor number. "Yeah, I mean most people leave on a Friday, and they crash at a fraternity or sorority house for the weekend. Maybe if you stay out my head until next weekend I'll take you to one" He teases, I roll my eyes. "No thank you." I say as we step out.
"Why, scared you're going to get drunk after one drink and end up in bed with some stranger?" He asks, with a smirk. "That only happens in the movies" He adds.
"No it's just not my scene" I shrug, stopping outside my dorm door.
"Then what is your scene, Aliyah Michaelson" The way my name rolls of his tongue makes my heartbeat race. "Uh, Well, Guess that's for you to find out" I smirk and he steps back, surprised by my comeback. I surprise myself, turning I pull my keys out my pocket and begin to unlock the door. Just as I'm about to turn the knob and walk inside I feel hot air on the back of my neck, causing the hairs on my arms to stand up. He's stepped closer, very close.
"Oh really" He breathes, My lips part slightly as I become incredibly nervous, I turn around, uncomfortable that he is standing to my back. When I turn I notice how close we actually are together. "Yes" I mumble, The hot air of his breath brush against my lips. Our breathing has rapidly increased and the air has got thick. He places a hand on the lower of my back "You-" Just as he is about to speak a door slams up the hall, taking us out of our moment. He steps back and looks at me confused, almost angry? disgusted?. A frown crosses his face and he drags his hand through his hair in frustration. "Never mind. I'll see you" He mutters, walking off down the hall leaving me standing, confused, overwhelmed and complete and utterly shocked.
