Homecoming. The word intimidates me. It means long dresses and fancy hair. A night of dancing and romance.  Phillip.  Attractive, popular and sweet Phillip.  He doesn't race my heart but I could figure that out later.  My mom is over the moon excited about dress shopping. Jim is a little confused about Phillip. Thank God, he doesn't step in. I don't see many obstacles for Phillip and I. He is a little too perfect.

Mom and I plan to go shopping today because Homecoming is next Saturday. I told my mom the minute I woke up about Phillip asking me to the dance.  She rearranged her Saturday schedule so we could go this morning since all the good dresses are probably gone. Come to think of it, this is my first time shopping for a formal dress in my life. It is exciting and nerve racking at the same time.

The dance both excites and terrifies me as well. It is so far out of my comfort zone. I need Heels. Shit heels. Phillip is tall. He's over 6 feet. He reminds me of Nathan from One Tree Hill. Brown hair, brown eyes with a toned basketball build.

I go downstairs and Mom is beaming. "Got a surprise for you. I talked to Aunt Sophia this morning. She said her and Maria are going to drive down next Friday. Maria wants to help you with your first dance."

My spirits lift instantly, "Oh my God mom. This is so awesome." Mom goes on to tell me they are driving in late Friday night. Oh this is perfect. Maria will be here all day on Saturday before the dance.

"Ok Tia, I mapped out a couple of places. Go change and let's roll." I am bouncing off the walls now because I will look beyond perfect next weekend.  It's Maria after all. I hurry back upstairs so much happier then when I came down. Who needs girlfriends when Maria is the best cousin ever? I wish she could be here for the shopping. I grab my phone to text her Thank you, Thank you, Thank you and see a message from Phillip.

"Hey Gorgeous want to tell you... I'm on homecoming court so you will need to be with me at the parade and game too. Sorry, I thought if I mentioned it last night, u would turn me down. I dumped my date when u said yes so YOU can't leave me hanging now!"-Phillip

What!!! Oh you bet your ass I would back out. Oh you are good Phillip. Athena is shaking her head.

"Gee thanks for the warning!! I am a background kinda girl. You should call your other date back."-Tia

"I made the right choice. Stay perfect. I gotta go run."-Phillip

"So many things I want to tell you right now but I'm a lady."-Tia

After throwing some sweatpants on, I hurry back downstairs and tell my mom the twist in the plot. She is even more excited about three dresses. Slick Phillip. Real slick.

We shop all day. Mom gets my nails and toes done. My eyebrows are waxed (and so are unmentionable places) and I got new underclothes. Mom swears I need them to set the dresses up. Ball this week with nails will be a challenge. They make me feel grownup.  We search long and hard but find the three most perfect dresses for Tia Scott. They are so beautiful I finally earn my princess status. At least I get to feel that way in them.

The one for the parade is white, off the shoulder and floor length lace. The shoulders are satin with three roses attached where the material meets and dips. It has a drop waist with a slit up to my thigh and is amazing on me. Passersby even complimented me. We bought silver strappy heels and a simple strand of pearls.

The dress for the football game is very dangerous. My mom insists on me standing out on the field. It is short and red with a halter top which wraps around my neck. It gathers at the waist and flares out. I'm going to wear the strappy heels and drop rhinestone earrings.  It fits me perfectly and the red makes me sassy.
