Chapter Two

It was the recruits first full official day on the Enterprise. Alexandria Kirk thought she was going to throw up. Just when she arrived, everyone watched her like they were at the zoo. She was afraid this would happen when she found out that she was assigned to work on the same ship as her brother...

Now it appears she would be working with the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Leonard McCoy, who also she knew was one of her brother's closest friends. Alex knew that any wrong move, and the news would be reported to her brother faster than tribbles could multiply. Now she almost wished that she chose a different career path besides Starfleet... Nonetheless, she was here and was going to make the most of the situation. At least her brother was a well-known officer and captain, and mostly well liked, even if he didn't always follow the rules. Alex straightened out her dress for the last time as she looked at the blue uniform, still wishing she could wear pants. Her brother used to get onto her for wearing short dresses to school. But at least this time the dresses would be according to Starfleet standards. Surely he wouldn't find a way to complain about that...

Alex shook her head and headed out of her quarters. Her door slid open and she walked out into the hallway. Already she could see people in red shirts staring at her. She was too busy thinking about them, she didn't see someone walking her direction as she bumped into them.

"Oh I'm so sorry," Alex stuttered as she nearly froze when she recognized them. It was first officer Spock, Kirk's best friend.

"Mister Spock," she added as she looked down. It was her first day, and she had run into the first officer!

"It's quite alright... Miss Kirk," Spock said in his monotone voice, though Alex thought he seemed slightly surprised as a Vulcan.

"Do you need assistance finding Sick Bay?" Spock asked as he glanced up from her dress. Alex was confused at first as to how he automatically knew she worked in the medical field, but assumed since he was first officer, he had seen the new recruit records and somehow memorized all the information. Or her brother could have simply told him...

"Oh I don't want to trouble you after that Mister Spock," she said.

"It would be no trouble, seeing as I myself am heading to Sick Bay to discuss something with Dr. McCoy," the Vulcan revealed.

"Well, if you're already going, I don't see why not," she said as she motioned for him to lead the way. Spock nodded his head as she followed shortly behind him.

"How are you finding the Enterprise?" Spock asked as they walked together. Alex saw people staring at them, and wondered what the rumors would be by the end of the day.

"Just as impressive as my brother always told me," Alex said as she glanced at his ears.

"It is one of the finest in the fleet. And your brother is a remarkable captain at the helm," Spock said as they almost reached Sick Bay.

"That is what I've heard. I suppose I'll see for myself now," Alex said as the Sick Bay door opened. Dr. McCoy was waiting for them, and Alex saw a blonde woman she didn't recognize.

"Well Spock, you haven't scared off my new nurse now have you?" Dr. McCoy said as he looked at them both.

"She's still standing here doctor, so no is the logical answer," Spock replied as Alex did her best not to laugh.

"Forgive my Vulcan friend here, Spock doesn't show emotions like humans do," Dr. McCoy said.

"Friend? I'm honored doctor," Spock replied as the doctor rolled his eyes.
