Jim, Bones and Spock stood in a brief silence as the scene unfolded around them. The three Starfleet officers and Sarek had returned. Alex shared a look with Jim and Spock before grabbing her side and collapsing. Sarek leaned over her as they rushed to her. Sarek looked up at his son and noticed he was paler than usual.
"Alex," Jim said.
"She was shot," Sarek replied as Bones got out his scanner.
"Somebody help me take her to Sick Bay. I need my nurse back!" McCoy ordered. Spock took over and simply picked up Alex himself, the others giving him room as they left the transporter room.
They reached Sick Bay as McCoy ordered the others out. Jim stood motionless by Martin and Johnson and Sarek. Martin spoke up.
"Sir, she saved us herself." Jim looked at him. Indeed he was very proud of what his sister had done, but wanted her to be safe and sound.
"Can a nurse become a captain?" Johnson said, trying to lighten the mood. Spock had come out of Sick Bay and they became silent.
"She'll be alright in time. She, she is momentarily put in a coma to heal properly," Spock said. Jim could tell he almost choked on his words, he wondered if his father noticed. Jim sighed as he looked at the other men.
"Go to your quarters and rest. Tell me your statements in the morning," Jim said before he heard an announcement from the bridge.
"Captain Kirk to the bridge. Captain to the bridge," Sulu said as Kirk locked eyes with Spock. Spock was about to say something but Jim put his hand up.
"Stay here. Help McCoy if you can. Update me if anything changes," he said. Spock nodded in appreciation.
"Yes Jim," he said as they all left.
Jim rushed to the bridge as he wondered what the Romulans did now. The ship shook as he entered the bridge. Sulu and Chekov glanced over at him.
"Romulans firing keptain," Chekov announced as Jim grabbed for the captain's chair.
"Understood Chekov. Put the bloody shields up!" He demanded.
"Trying sir."  The ship shook as the lights flickered.

McCoy adjusted some controls Alex was connected to as the ship lost power for a moment. Bones swore as Spock stood up.
"Dammit Jim! Can't you stop for five minutes! Spock, tell the captain to stop the firing or, I can't save his sister!" Bones choked. Spock hailed the bridge.

"Captain, Dr. McCoy has requested that the firing stops, or else Miss Kirk will suffer," Spock managed to say.
Jim sat frozen in his chair. I've got to stop this or lose my sister.
"Understood Spock." Jim looked at Uhura.
"Hail that ship!"
"Hailing sir." A moment later, an aggravated Romulan was onscreen. Jim sighed. At least the ship wasn't being fired on. More time for Alex.
"Oath breaker," he spat at Kirk.
"I can honestly say I didn't plan on that happening."
"You will regret this. Sarek will pay, one way or another."
"Why does anyone have to pay?" Jim asked.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold captain. This won't be our last encounter," he said as the screen went blank. Jim sighed. He'd deal with the Romulans later. Right now he just wanted to see his sister.
"Sulu take the con. Report to the federation. I'll be in Sick Bay," he said as he jumped out of his chair.
