Alex was working in Sick Bay the next day. She hadn't heard from Spock if he had enjoyed Romeo and Juliet yet. She busied herself filling out charts of patients when Bones came in her corner.

"Read anything good lately?" Bones asked.

"Not recently." The doctor frowned.

"You need to get out more."

"I'm in space." Bones laughed.

"What?" Alex asked.

"Nothing."

Alex left Sick Bay and headed for her quarters. She gave a sigh of relief as she went into her bedroom. She glanced down and saw a note and a couple of books on her bed. It was the one she gave to Spock and one she didn't recognize. She picked up the note first.

Alex,

Thank you for the book. Here is one I think you will find interesting.

Spock

Curious, Alex began reading the first chapter. She then raised her eyebrows and blushed as she got further in the story. She couldn't believe Spock would pick out a book like this for her.

Alex stayed up way too late reading as she dragged the next morning heading to Sick Bay. Bones then found her in the hallway.

"Something keep you up? Your boyfriend perhaps?" Bones joked as Alex glared at him.

"How did you know I didn't sleep well?"

"I'm a doctor in case you've forgotten. I notice these things."

"And no, it wasn't Spock by the way if you must know. I was just reading."

"Reading what? Not patient charts I hope?" Alex tried to hide her blush as they walked into Sick Bay.

"It wasn't that," Alex started to say before several red shirts rushed in Sick Bay. Alex gasped as she saw who they were carrying.

"Spock? What happened?" she said as McCoy then became serious. The captain then burst into the room, his shirt torn and bloody.

"Spock, you've got to help him Bones!" Jim exclaimed as Alex looked at her brother.

"Tell me what happened Jim! I can hardly find a heartbeat on this Vulcan..."

"We were attacked on the planet below. Our phasers were useless against the creature. Spock took a blow for me," Jim said as he looked at the Vulcan. Bones looked at Alex.

"You help your brother. I'll deal with Spock." Alex regretfully nodded and walked to her brother. She took him aside as they went to another part of the room. Alex made her brother sit down as she got a scanner.

"Next time could you tell me before you and Spock go on a dangerous mission?" Alex said as he looked at her.

"That's basically every day."

"You usually don't look this bad."

"Gee thanks." Their conversation was cut short by McCoy ordering Alex to get a shot of something Jim couldn't pronounce, let alone remember. Alex hurriedly gave it to the doctor as nurse Chapel helped too.

"Is he that bad?" Jim's voice cracked.

"He's lost a lot of blood Jim. It's not like we have a huge stash of Vulcan blood bags on hand," McCoy stated. Alex put a hand to her mouth as she saw the festering wound on Spock's side, green blood stained everywhere.

"I'm not leaving till you fix him," the captain said.

"You're fine. Go back to the bridge."

"I'm staying here."

"Then sit in the corner and don't make your sister cry."

"I won't make her cry."

"Shut up and let me do my job Jim!" Bones nearly yelled. Jim then noticed the strain in the doctor's face, and let it go.

Jim lost track of time as he sat in Sick Bay. There were not any other crisis he had to deal with. Alex got him a change of clothes and fixed his wounds. McCoy didn't want her too close to Spock, he didn't want her to worry. He then told Alex and Jim to sit in his office. Another hour passed before McCoy finally went in to talk to them. They both stood straight up.

"How is he?" Jim stammered first.

"He has lost a lot of blood. Whatever the hell you met did a number on him. I don't want him on duty for at least a couple of weeks. He can't go on missions until he is fully healed, and I don't want any strain on him."

"He's going to be alright, isn't he?" Alex asked.

"He will be. He needs rest." Nurse Chapel then walked in.

"He is awake." The three then hastily followed her. Spock was the palest Alex had ever seen him. Bandages covered his side where he was attacked. She forced herself to just look at his face. Spock saw Alex and then Jim.

"Jim, you are alright."

"You shouldn't have done that," Jim said as he slowly smiled.

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few," Spock gasped.

"Or the one," Jim finished.

"Next time tell me when you might get killed by a space monster," Alex said as he looked at her.

"It's not just a space monster," Jim started to say.

"But we do not know what it is captain. Therefore, it could be called a space monster," Spock pointed out.

"Kiss ass," Bones muttered as Jim and Alex looked at him.

"He needs rest and that means no talking," the doctor added.

"I think you would enjoy that too much," Spock said.

"I'll enjoy my time off duty since I finished saving you."

"Thank you Bones," Jim said.

"I'm glad someone finally said it. Now you all can stop worrying and go back to whatever you were doing," Bones said.

"I'm actually off duty at this point," Jim said. Alex nodded her head.

"I am too."

"Just go read a book or something. My patient needs actual rest and not you two distracting him," the doctor said as he tried to walk them out.

"We won't distract him," Jim tried to protest.

"Yes, you will. Goodnight you two," Bones said. Alex looked at her brother after the door shut.

"I can't believe he kicked us out," Alex said.

"To be fair, we would have distracted him," Jim admitted.

"I just hope he'll be alright." Jim put a hand on her shoulder.

"Alex, Spock is a Vulcan. He'll be alright. He's the toughest guy I know." Alex smiled at her brother's words and hugged him.
