McCoy made Spock stay in Sick Bay for a week so he could monitor his wound and change his bandage. Alex did enjoy seeing him at work, but wished he wasn't a patient. She hated seeing a brilliant mind like his stuck in a hospital bed. Jim of course came by to see his first officer almost daily, whenever he had free time or his lunch break. Jim was eating his salad when McCoy came over to check on the Vulcan.
"Alright Spock, if this bandage doesn't have a hint of green in it, I suppose you could go to your quarters." Spock turned his head to the doctor as Alex leaned in as well.
"I guess I shouldn't have brought my lunch in today..." Jim said as he set his bowl down.
"With a little luck, there won't be anything here to spoil your appetite Jim," Bones said. The captain looked away as Bones took care of the bandage, but also peaked to see if he saw anything green.
"Well you hit the lottery Spock, I think you can leave Sick Bay," Bones said as Alex gave a sigh of relief. Jim smiled.
"And miss out on your conversations?" Spock remarked as he sat up.
"Oh, come on. You just like my nurse." Alex couldn't even try to hide her blush. Spock raised his eyebrow.
"I do find her fascinating." Alex smiled at that.
"Ok I'm leaving," Jim said as he took his bowl of salad with him.
"You two can go get a room now. But don't be too hard on that bandage. I just got that Vulcan fixed and I don't want to see him back!" Bones said.
"Don't worry sir, I'll be gentle with him," Alex said with a smirk. She caught a quick smile from Spock.
"Yes, I'm sure I'll be in good hands," Spock said.
"Just be careful you two. I don't want to have to worry about a Vulcan baby running around in a few months," McCoy said as he put instruments away. Spock stood up and then his face bore pain as he put his hand down to his injury. McCoy raced back toward him.
"I don't think you have to worry about us getting too far doctor," Spock said.
"You sure you're alright?" Bones asked. Spock closed his eyes for a moment.
"I am fine. Just lightheaded." McCoy eyed him over.
"Since I'm assuming Alex will be with you awhile, I'll let you go. But you'll have to report to me in the morning," the doctor said as Spock nodded.
"I will doctor." Spock made his way out the door as he shared a glance with Alex. McCoy and Alex were alone for a moment.
"Oh, come on. Go after him. I can handle things here." Alex looked at him with surprise.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Besides, I know he's hurting, and I want someone to at least keep an eye on him," Bones revealed.
"I'll keep both eyes on him," Alex said.
"Just spare me the details," Bones replied.
"I want to know!" the two heard nurse Chapel shout from his office. Alex tried not to laugh.
"Just leave already!" McCoy said as he waved his hand. Alex hugged the doctor.
"Thank you. For everything," Alex said before she let go. McCoy watched her leave Sick Bay.
"Spock is one lucky Vulcan..." he muttered. A while later, Jim came back to see the doctor. McCoy turned around as he saw him come in.
"So, how is he? Really?" he asked.
"He's holding it together. He'll still need a couple weeks to recover. Then maybe he can go on duty with no missions."
"And Alex?"
"Painted blind by cupid, but maybe that's a good thing."
"I need my first officer back."
"Jim we're lucky he's here at all. Just let him rest and...enjoy himself for a while. Heaven knows he never takes a break normally."
"You're right, but him and my sister..."
"Aren't completely stupid. He got lightheaded when he stood up. I doubt much will happen," McCoy said. Jim frowned.
"That bad?" McCoy nodded.
"So, don't worry. Besides, Chapel wants to hear all the gossip from her later. I'll end up hearing about whatever happens."
"I don't know if that's comforting or concerning."
"Just go back to the bridge and stop Klingons or something," McCoy said as he tried to usher him out.
"Fine. Maybe I'll get hurt in the process and see you again," Jim tried to joke as McCoy frowned.
"I just fixed a first officer, I don't want to fix a captain."
