The Skylar had successfully stopped Spock and was now leading him to a different place on the ship. They had gone on their turbolift. Spock tried to remember their path. The door opened and revealed their transporter room. Spock couldn't leave without trying to find Alex... He turned around to face his guard when their transporter came alive and he saw the captain, Dr. McCoy, and Scotty appear. The alien noticed them too as he looked over.
"Jim look out!" Spock yelled as the alien headed toward them. Kirk flashed out his phaser on his opponent and sent him to the floor. Spock ran to his captain.
"I said to stay on the ship sir," Spock said as he joined them.
"It appeared you needed help," Kirk replied with a grin.
"Indeed captain. But we're running out of time. And these aliens attack with their minds. I could not hold him off," Spock explained.
"If Spock couldn't do that, how can we?" Dr. McCoy asked.
"I believe the element of surprise is the best advantage we have doctor," Spock said.
"Well he certainly didn't see us coming," Kirk joked.
"No captain. But we must hurry, although I'm not sure if I know where exactly Miss Kirk is," Spock admitted as they started walking. They headed to the turbolift. Scotty pressed a control as they went up.
"Certainly alien this is, but what I dunno," the engineer commented.
"They called themselves the Skylar race," the captain said.
"They certainly want you dead captain," Spock remarked.
"I apparently destroy their race in the future, so this is their form of revenge," Kirk explained as he looked at the Vulcan. The turbolift stopped as Kirk cautiously aimed his phaser as the door opened. The men stepped out into a hallway. They heard a woman's scream as Jim grimaced and headed toward the noise. The other men followed their captain, and hid by the wall as they saw one Skylar by Alex in the room. Kirk shared a look with Spock, as the Vulcan went in first, followed by his captain. Spock glanced at Alex as he slowly made his way to her behind the Skylar. She bore a confused face as the Skylar looked at her oddly. Then the Skylar slumped to the ground as Spock used his Vulcan nerve pinch.
"Spock? Jim? How did you get here?" she stammered as her brother and Spock came closer.
"Transporter obviously," Jim smirked.
"Are you alright?" he asked more seriously. Alex nodded her head as Jim tried to undo the straps around the chair. Dr. McCoy had his scanner out.
"I told your brother that he should have showed you the bridge during a more peaceful time," Bones groaned.
"Well, you should know by now that he doesn't always follow orders," Alex remarked as Jim got the strap around her neck off. However, Alex's shirt was ripped by the collarbone. Jim gave a sideways glance toward the men.
"Nobody look there unless you want to be the next patient," Jim spat.
"Oh please Jim, I think we've all seen worse. Remember that time you went to that alien bar back home-" Alex retorted before another Skylar appeared in the doorway. They all stopped as he entered.
"Kirk is meant to die, not to escape," he said as he started to advance. Jim raised his phaser.
"I'm the Kirk you're looking for, not her," he replied.
"Nonetheless, you will die." Jim felt a stab of pain in his mind he had never felt before. Bones put a hand on his shoulder, but Kirk fought the doctor back as Spock tried to knock the phaser out of his hand.
"Jim, you have to snap out of it!" Alex yelled. She was weak from her torture and could only lay on the chair she was previously strapped to.
"Just think of the Enterprise, your crew," Bones tried to reason as Jim fought himself. The captain gasped as Scotty shot the alien with his phaser. Spock raised an eyebrow. It took a moment for the captain to recover.
"You didn't have to kill him Scotty."
"Sorry captain, but it was the only safest option available," the engineer replied. Kirk sighed as he looked around the room, the other Skylar still unconscious.
"Let's just get the hell out of here," the captain stated. Alex nodded her head.
"But what about the other Skylar?" Bones asked.
"Let him be. He's the last of his kind for all we know," the captain ordered. Bones then went to the captain and had his scanner out.
"I'm fine Bones. Just leave me alone," Jim tried to push him away, but found himself weaker than he thought he was.
"I think these Skylar do more than they appear to do," Bones said as Scotty went up to the captain.
"You can lean on me captain," Scotty said as he held his arm out. The captain reluctantly gave in and leaned on the engineer as Spock assisted Alex. Alex stumbled a bit as the Vulcan held her up. Then the captain fell to the ground as Scotty tried to catch him.
"Jim," Alex gasped as she too felt more exhausted than she did a moment ago. The last thing she remembered was Spock picking her up in his arms. At least her brother was unconscious and didn't see that.
