*Callie*

I knew I would have to amputate the minute I saw that little girl but there was no way I was going to tell her that. I also knew I was being a little harsh but she was standing next to me looking all cute and I couldn't let that distract me and my work.

I took her up to get prepared for surgery and on our way there she woke up.

"If it comes to me or the leg, take the leg." She said ever so gently but with so much pain in her voice.

"I will try my best honey, I just need you to keep breathing can you promise me that?"

She didn't respond.

Grey scrubbed me in and told me that everything was gonna be alright, the typical Grey that I loved.

Before we started I saw Arizona in the gallery room. I told one of the nurses to ring up there.

"Arizona, I have to take her leg or she will die."

"I know, you just be do your work." Her voice was tense but at a leveled volume.

Was she mad at me for doing my job?

after the surgery

My surgery ended after a very stressful almost two hours. Our patient ended up with one and a half legs but it still alive as ever. Her family wasn't too thrilled though but Chief Bailey came in to help explain things better.

I can't talk to Arizona, not like this. This is exactly what I didn't want to happen. She gets in the way of my work and then I catch feelings and she leaves me. This happened with my previous two relationships which I thought would last forever but here we are.

I knew I was catching feelings hard for Arizona but I couldn't tell her that of course. Maybe I can though. I want to tell her but I don't know how she feels. This hospital talks a lot and people are going to start to notice at some point.

My phone buzzes and I see that it's a text from Arizona, should I answer it? I put my pride aside and read the text.

Arizona ❤️: Nice marks you left on me.
Me: Oops?
Arizona ❤️: I'm going to get you back Calliope.
Me: I can't wait to see how.

She was so cute. No. I can't do this, if I'm going to talk to her I need to get straight to the point.

*Arizona*

After Callie's surgery my day got better and then worse. One of my patients had a miscarriage and normally I don't get too attached to things like this but this time it stuck with me.

When I was pregnant with Ava she had a twin sister in the womb. Ava made it but her sister didn't and I've never told Ava before, this is because for starters she's young and second I didn't want her to feel bad. Ava and Arabella.

This patient had almost an identical situation just with twin boys where one survives and the other doesn't. After that happened my day just went downhill and the one person I wanted to see was stuck in another surgery so I couldn't see her.

After the surgery I ended up balling my eyes out in the basement of the hospital because of all the memories that came into mind. I would give anything to have Arabella back again. Nobody deserves to go through with their child being taken away from them.

Suddenly my phone rang, it was a call from Callie. Why was she out of all people calling me? I quickly gathered myself up.

"Hello." Her angelic voice rang through the phone.

"Hi Callie, how are you?" I wasn't aware of how wobbly my voice was.

"Are you mad at me or something?" She skips my question and gets right to the point.

"No, do I have a reason to be mad at you?"

"Well in the gallery what you said gave me an impression that you were mad at me."

How well does she know me? "I'm not mad at you Callie." My voice cracked unintentionally when I said her name.

"I'm sending you my address, please come over."

Why did she want me to come over to her house? Within seconds of the call ending, there was an address. Surprisingly it wasn't far from my house.

at callie's house

I rang the doorbell with a very tired Ava in my arms. A few seconds later Callie opens the door with a warm smile.

"Hey."

"Hi."

"Come in, Sofia isn't at home right now." Her house was beautiful.

"Can I put her on the couch?"

"Yea of course."

I laid her down and walked to the kitchen where Callie was. Her kitchen was beautifully decorated with a black and white theme, extremely minimalist.

"Are you ok?" She asks.

"Yea, why?"

"Because you're eyes are red and puffy and you're voice isn't the same and you just don't seem ok."

It felt amazing to know that someone cared and noticed the little things. "I had a rough day at work, too many kids dying."

"Do you like ice cream?" She was now by her freezer.

"Of course."

"Mint chocolate chip, vanilla, or chocolate?"

"Ummm, I'll go with chocolate."

She comes back to the table with a bowl of ice cream and two spoons. She was not about to eat my ice cream.

"Who's the other spoon for?" I ask eating a spoonful of ice cream.

"Me, of course."

"No, get your own bowl, this is mine." I protectively put my arm around the bowl.

She quickly reaches her spoon over my arm and gets a spoonful of ice cream with a small amount falling on my arm.

"Callie!" I half yelled remembering that Ava was in the room but she's an extremely heavy sleeper.

She ran to the other side of the table and smirks. It was on now. I got up and went to chase her down.

We ran around her house like children until she tripped and fell on the carpet. I immediately climbed on top of her and pinned her arms down.

"Say you're sorry!"

She just grinned, so I started tickling her and she bursted into laughter.

"Say that you are sorry and this will all be over with." I say still tickling her.

"Stop...I'm going to...pee!" She says in between laughs.

"Just say that you're sorry."

"Fine, I'm sorry Arizona, I won't eat your ice cream again."

I stopped tickling her and she wipes tears from her eyes. "Now, kiss me."

"Gladly." She smiles in between the kiss and then parts. "Mmm, you taste like chocolate."

In this very moment I forgot about everything that happened today and focused on the one person that made me feel like the only person in the world.
