5...4...3...2...1...Happy New Year! All of the West Coast was now officially in the new year.

I gave my girlfriend a kiss on the lips even if she couldn't hear or feel it.

It was almost Callie's birthday and I still haven't picked out her gift. I wanted to get her a promise ring, a promise to not let anything get in the way of our relationship and a promise to love each other until the day that we die.

I knew everyone else was out celebrating so I wasn't mad when everyone said they would check back in in the morning. Callie definitely has a village, there's a ton of people here that care for her.

one week later

If everyone goes through the right way, doctors say that Callie should wake up in 3-5 days.

It was now time for me to go back to work even though Chief Bailey recommended that I waited a little longer, Callie would want me to start working again.

No, she's not dead. I can't keep talking about her like she's dead because she's not.

"Robbins! How's Callie?" Alex calls out.

"She's getting better, should be another 3-5 days." I looked at my chart.

"That's amazing, have you seen the new OB/GYN?"

"No, what's the last name?" I was so wrapped up in Callie I didn't even realize we have new doctors.

"DeLuca." Then he just walks away.

There's no way. Could Carina really be here at the hospital that I work at?

As I was making my rounds I ran into the one and only Carina DeLuca.

"Arizona?"

"Carina? What are you doing here?" Kill me now.

"I'm working on my study."

"Great." I quickly walked off before the conversation went any further.

"Wait! Arizona!"

What else did she want? I turned around and Carina looked like a confused, lost, puppy.

"We should go out for lunch tomorrow if you have time, we need to catch up." She suggests.

"Of course, I'll text you."

"No you won't, I'll text you." Then she was the one walking away this time.

I could see Teddy behind me who probably listened to the whole conversation. Why was I being to harsh towards Carina, I mean I was the one who was obsessed with her in high school.

"Relax, she's just a friend." Teddy insists.

"I don't know what's wrong with me, something is off."

"Well for starters, Callie isn't here so you feel incomplete. You need to let people in and let people help you to show you that you're loved, go to lunch with Carina and talk to her."

Teddy was always the best at giving advice and I loved her for it. "Thanks Teds."

Maybe she was right. I wasn't myself because Callie wasn't here. I was having terrible mood swings and I wasn't even on my period. I needed Callie back before I go insane.

I was finally able to go through my rounds without any distractions, today was thankfully a slow day and the only surgery that took place wasn't in my department.

Was it wrong not to call Callie's parents? I mean they disowned her and they shouldn't want her back just because she's in a coma. I need to talk to her Aunt.

Lucky for me she was still in the same spot she was in when I left.

"Ms. V, can I talk to you for a second." I say.

"Yes, what is it?"

"Have you called Callie's parents?"

"Honestly, I've been thinking about it but you know they don't have the best relationship so I was actually thinking about asking you if you think I should call them." I could tell she was nervous because she was fidgety, something Callie does when she's nervous.

"It is almost her birthday, maybe they could see Sofia."

Her eyes grew wide at the sound of Sofia's name being said. "When Sofia was born they didn't even want to hold her."

"What about me? I know this isn't about me at all but how do you think they will react when they see me?"

"Oh baby, I wish I knew, I'm gonna give them a call and inform them about the situation and if they don't show up it's no big deal."

I noticed the ring on her Aunts finger. Then I thought back to the rings I looked at for Callie. I wanted to get us promise rings. Maybe in the morning.
