Asking the Parents

It's been two weeks since our trip to New Zealand. Glaiza and I had so much fun, exploring and relaxing. It was December now, hence ma-traffic nanaman sa Metro Manila. Bianca was released from Rehab early last week, she's now back to work on her Father's manufacturing firm. We would go out from time to time, over the last few days. Glaiza was in the USA for a concert for her Filipino Fans. The usual, we would video call each other as often as we could. She knew Bianca and I often hangs out after work, like the old times. I was pleased with how things in life fell into place, glad that Bianca and I are back to being best friends. I have Glaiza and Tadhana who loves me unconditionally as well as my Family. Wala na akong mahihiling pang iba. Kumpleto na ako and I am thinking of popping the question to Glaiza. So, I went to Manila today where her Parents' Head office are. I set up an appointment with them. Si Nanay Cristy at Tatay Boy as Glaiza would call them are so nice to me and my family. Although her Nanay Cristy had an air of strictness to her, she was still nice to me and today will be the first time I'll talk to them na ako lang at wala si Glaiza.

I practiced what to tell them, Before realizing that I didn't need to practice what to say, that what's important is I show them what I would do for their daughter and the truth is I just want to love Glaiza until the end of our lives. Is this what men go through? I drank the last sip of coffee on my paper cup, before retouching my make-up. When I am satisfied, I went down from my car and walked into the office building.

Putting on my brightest smile kahit na kinakabahan ako, sinong hindi kakabahan kay Nanay Cristy at kay Tatay Boy? Both of them presented a serious side as if threatening you to get your act together or leave.

Nang makarating na ako sa floor ng opisina nila, I stared at the door, doon naka-paskil ang pangalan nila Dr. Theodore Galura and Dra. Cristina Galura. Bright Psyche Founders. I inhaled and exhaled and knocked thrice on the door. A moment later, their secretary opened the door amd ushered me into the waiting area.

"You are Dra. Howell right?" The secretary said with a smile.

"Yes, I am." I smiled back to her.

"Wait a moment ma'am. I'll just let them know you are here." She said rather cheerfully.

I sat at the couch, the place was decorated with plaques, awards and photos of their outreach. I was brought out of my reverie when the secretary called me.

"You can see them now Dra. Howell." She said as she stood by the door.

"Thank you, Miss." I said to her as she ushered me into their joint office, where there are two tables.

They were both working through piles and piles of paper. Quite busy I see.

"Good afternoon po Tita and Tito." I greeted them.

They both smiled warmly at me and Tito Boy spoke.

"Rhian, what a surprise! Naparito ka?" Tanong ni Tito Boy.

"Oo nga hija, this is rare of you to come see us with out our daughter Glaiza. Halika maupo ka sa couch." Tita Christy said as she stood from her table.

I kissed her cheek at ganun din si Tito Boy as I sat with them in the couch.

"Hindi na po ako magpapaligoy-ligoy, alam ko pong abala kayo para sa darating na Christmas outreach ninyo." I said to them.

"Okay, ano nga bang kailangan mo at napasyal ka sa Manila?" Tita Cristy said.

"Tita, Tito. I wanted to ask you for your blessing for me to Marry your daughter Glaiza." I said to them and paused.

They were silent and I took the opportunity to speak to them and make a case.

"Alam ko pong against kayo sa relasyon namin ni Glaiza, pero limang taon na po kami, siguro naman po napatunayan ko na na mahal ko talaga si Glaiza and I would never hurt her. Gusto ko lang pong hingin ang blessing ninyo as I know she would love it if you guys approved of it. Nawitness ko po kung gaano po kayo ka-mahal ni Glaiza which has pushed her to continue with her medical studies, kahit pa po music talaga ang hilig nya, sana po ibalato nyo na sa amin ito. Sana po ay payagan nyo naman pong sumaya si Glaiza ngayong limang taon na po ng buhay nya ang naibigay nya para makatulong sa foundation ninyo. Siguro naman po enough time na yon para maipakita po nya na mahal nya kayo at ang mga ginagawa ninyo." I said to them.
