< Arin's POV >
"Hey Kevin, how have you been?" Arin said with a smile at her webcam as Kevin's face appeared on the Skype call.
It was a few days later, and by some stroke of luck Arin had dodged Danny's illness. As far as she was aware he was more or less back to his usual perky self, but today was a Saturday and Arin had a feeling he was probably either asleep or just relaxing at home, so she decided to spare him her texts. If he wanted to talk to her, he would.
And Kevin had been online. They hadn't talked in a while, and since they lived on opposite sides of town it made meeting up kind of difficult anyway. Kevin brushed his fluffy fringe away from his face as he smiled back at her through the screen.
"Hey. I've been good. I got let off work until after Christmas yesterday, which was cool!" he chirped happily, "You?"
"Uh, y-yeah I've been good too. I've been hanging out with Danny and his friends mostly."
"Cool. I'm actually going out with my friends tomorrow."
"Oh, what're you doing?" Arin asked curiously.
"Going into town. I think we're gonna check out this new karaoke place, actually. I'll send you videos of my terrible singing if you want!"
"I'm sure you're not that bad!" Arin laughed, then tacking on, "Maybe even as good as Danny."
Kevin raised an eyebrow at that.
"Danny sings?"
"Yeah, r-remember at his birthday, he did some singing there."
"Oh yeah. We were all just messing about so I didn't pay much attention I guess. You said he's good?"
"I'm biased, but yeah he's great."
"Well maybe next time we hang out we could do some kind of competition. See who's really the better singer," Kevin suggested with a joking wink that actually reminded Arin of when Danny sometimes did that.
"Hehe, I'm sure he'd love that. He can get really competitive when he wants to."
"Nothing beats your competitiveness when it came to the playground slide when we were little, though." Kevin grinned and Arin narrowed her eyes at him.
"Hey, we fought over that slide. You weren't exactly passive about it," she pointed out.
"Okay yeah, that's true. But you didn't give up, even though I was like... a full head taller than you?"
"Something like that."
"You were determined to make that slide your own. I remember when you got to the top first you'd just sit there, and I'd have to climb up to push you down."
"OH YEAH!" Arin yelped with laughter as the memories flooded back to her, "Then you'd sit up there and taunt me! Didn't you make me cry one time and then you came down because you upset me?"
"Nononono that's not what happened at all! You couldn't get me down and started fake crying so I came down, and then you climbed up to the top. You were devious for a six year old!"
"That's your fault for being such a softie!"
"Hey, you were convincing! Did you ever consider a career in acting?"
"Kev you know how nervous I am. I could never be an actress," Arin said almost sadly.
"Aw come on, don't say that. Six year old Arin had confidence for days!"
