A/N: this chapter is a birthday present for my friend, methanoldoeswriting who is the entire reason that Kevin is in this fic lol, so I thought I'd write a chapter for him with his favourite character. This chapter doesn't further the main story in any way, but is just a collection of cute backstories of Arin and Kevin's friendship when they were little. Enjoy!
< Kevin's POV >
Kevin bounced in his seat, looking up at clock and seeing that playtime was almost here. It was his favourite time of the day, as it was for most 6 year olds.
At long last the bell went, and the teacher gave them permission to go, opening the classroom door outside to release them onto the playground. Kevin ran out with a smile. He didn't really have any friends to play with, but then again he didn't need any. He had his own company. And the playground slide, which was always his chosen place to play.
He made his way excitedly to that corner of the playground, dodging past a group of kids playing tag. His slide was bright yellow and blue, and easy to spot. Today, however, there was a new colour. A blotch of white, on top of the slide. Stopping at the bottom Kevin stared up at the person who was perched up there on his throne, white t-shirt and blue shorts in the summer heat.
They were gripping the sides, swinging their legs so that their matching blue trainers pounded on the plastic slide. A fringe of brown hung over their eyes and they weren't smiling.
"Hey!" Kevin called up.
They jumped, peering over the side of the slide to look down at him. It was a boy Kevin had never seen before. He had large brown eyes and a round face.
"H-Hi..." he muttered back in a voice so small Kevin hardly heard him.
"That's my slide."
"I-Is it?" the boy wondered, a careful smile finally edging onto his lips, "I-I don't see your name on it."
"It doesn't have my name! But it's mine, I always play on it!" Kevin protested.
The brown haired boy folded his arms, "W-Well I'm playing on it now."
Kevin huffed, annoyed. He ran around to the back of the slide and started to climb up. The boy at the top heard him and tried to turn his head, but Kevin was a step ahead and pushed him. He lost his leverage on the sides and with a yelp was sent sliding down. Kevin sat himself down at the top and grinned.
"Hahaha! I'm up here now!" he cried in celebration.
The boy at the bottom stood up and turned around, glaring up at him with an unimpressed pout.
"That's not fair! I was playing!" he whined.
"Too bad!" Kevin stuck his tongue out.
He thought the boy would leave, the way his fists balled up and he looked down. Then, his mouth twitched into a barely noticeable smile and he ran around. Before Kevin knew what was happening he was pushed from behind too. Not expecting it, he flew off the bottom head first and tumbled across the hard asphalt playground. He cried out as his knees scraped on the ground and tried to push himself up.
"A-Are you okay...?"
Looking up, the boy was stood beside him. His hand was outstretched, offering help as he gripped his shirt with the other, looking scared. Kevin took his hand and stood up, brushing off his scratched knees that thankfully were only slightly grazed. It still hurt though.
"Yeah, I'm okay."
"I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't mean to h-hurt you," stammered the boy, taking a fearful step back.
