< Danny's POV >

A page of math stared Danny in the face, taunting him with the fact that he had no idea where to start. He growled, chewing on his pen and messing up his hair in frustration.

He was sat on the floor of the music room after school surrounded by a pile of equation sheets and flash cards. Revision, his arch nemesis.

"Whoa dude, are you swimming in paper or what," Meouch joked as he came over.

Danny lifted his head, glaring daggers at the lion with a carefree grin on his half-covered face.

"More like swimming in exam stress. How are you not currently shitting yourself?" he retorted.

Meouch snorted, picking up one of Danny's sheets and taking one look before tossing it over his shoulder.

"Psh, I have no reason to worry," he shrugged nonchalantly.

"Meouch... You fail literally all your tests."

"Yeah, why stop now?"

"Because this isn't just some stupid class test. This is our finals, you know, the exams that decide our future."

"Eh, who cares about the future?"

"I do, because I actually want a job I enjoy, not just sweeping the floors at some random supermarket and getting paid peanuts," Danny hissed, "Now leave me alone so I can focus."

"What do you want to do when you leave school, then?" Meouch asked, ignoring his request completely and sitting down opposite Danny.

Danny raised an eyebrow suspiciously.

"Why do you care?"

"Wow, bud, don't bite my head off! I'm just curious." Meouch held up his hands innocently.

"Okay... I want to study music."

"Me too! Man, wouldn't it be awesome if we ended up going to the same college?"

Danny scoffed at him.

"I doubt that'll happen. The one I want to go to is really hard to get into, hence the studying I'm doing. If I want to go there, I need the grades."

"Well do you have a backup plan if you don't get in?" Meouch wondered, and Danny glared that he dare doubt his intelligence.

"Yes, but I hope I don't have to use it," he said simply before looking back at his work and hoping Meouch would get the hint and walk away.

"What's going on over here?"

Danny huffed as Brian walked over next. He practically threw his paper and pen to the ground; there was no way he was getting anything done like this.

"Danny's revising," answered Meouch.

"Trying to," Danny corrected bitterly as he folded his arms.

"Oh, is it hard?" Brian sat down on the floor with them, completely missing Danny's blatant insinuation that they were the problem.

"Yeah, it's math, what do you think?"

"Danny, math isn't hard," chuckled Brian.

"Well of course you'd say that! You're a nerd."

"I prefer the term genius, but yes, you are correct." Brian smiled smugly, "So, what're you having trouble with?"

"Everything."

"Danny..."

"Fine, algebra. I don't understand it, this is math, why did they need to add letters?" Danny exclaimed, angry at whoever invented the syllabus.
