Chapter 67 - Gaming Session

< Danny's POV >

"Brian?!"

The two friends locked eyes, equally as shocked to see the other. Brian turned to Rachel with wide eyes.

"You didn't tell me the other guy was Danny!" he cried.

"Didn't I? I thought I did."

"No!"

"If it makes you feel any better Brian I didn't even know another guy was gonna be here," Danny pointed out.

"And you still agreed to come?" Brian raised an eyebrow.

"Anything for Arin," Danny said casually, winking up at Arin and smiling as she blushed a deep red.

"Goals. Anyway, now that we're all here..." Suzy interjected, rubbing her hands together, "Let's have some fun!"

Brushing past Rachel and Brian, Suzy hurried upstairs, to get something if Danny could guess. In the meantime he gestured for Arin to sit with him. As she did so he diverted his attention back on Brian.

"So, how long have you guys been a thing?" he asked.

"We started talking after we met at your birthday. It just kind of went from there I guess," Brian shrugged nonchalantly.

"And you didn't tell me, your best friend? I'm hurt."

Arin snickered next to him as she knew he was joking. Brian rolled his eyes and folded his arms.

"What, like you told us about you and Arin?" he retorted.

"Hey, I was pretty public about it! I haven't even seen you guys talk, let alone be in a relationship."

At that moment Suzy thundered back into the room excitedly. Danny couldn't help but think she had a kind of Meouch vibe right now and wondered if she was on a sugar high or something.

"Okay! I got board games, video games, a bunch of takeout menus!" the gothic girl exclaimed, throwing down a pile of just that onto the middle of the carpet.

"Board games? What are we, 80? Come on let's play some video games!" Danny laughed as he stood up to take a look at the pile.

Arin and Brian agreed adamantly with him on the idea and joined him on the floor to look through the games Suzy had. The two other girls joined them and were quickly decided on Just Dance, while Danny, Brian and Arin favoured Mario Party. One rock paper scissors later and Brian was smugly inserting the game while Suzy shared out the controllers with a frown.

The game was four player so Suzy and Rachel decided to go together.

"Dibs on Yoshi!" Danny announced when character selection came up.

"Alright then, I'll take Bowser," shrugged Brian.

"Ooh, pick Rosalina!" was Rachel's verdict.

Out of the corner of his eye Danny saw Arin smile to herself as she was free to take Peach. He nudged her shoulder playfully and she blushed that he'd noticed her silent celebration.

Suzy, being the host player, picked the board they'd play and they all watched as Toad came up, offering to read them the rules.

"Who needs rules? Let's play," Danny heard Arin mutter.

He giggled to himself, unable to stop a snort as the rare sassy Arin that he loved made her appearance.

"You heard the lady. Skip that shit."

< Arin's POV >

Brian cheered as he managed to land on the star, courtesy of Bowser's super unfair 10 roll. He smiled smugly over at Danny, who was only 1 space away after using a gold mushroom. Arin saw Danny clenching his jaw in anger and shuffled closer to him, rubbing his back gently to distract him.
