Under the process of three weeks Elise spent all her free time in the garage or watching Sean learn how to drift. He was steadily improving and it made her happy to see. She was also fixing the Corolla up. Now you could see the actual color (what was left) instead of rust and the engine could be placed back.

One night they sat together in the garage talking. It was late and everyone had decided to stay for the night.

In curiousity Elise decided to ask; "Hey Twinkie?" He hummed from his place on the couch. "You mentioned being an army brat earlier, which parent?"

He drank some of his soda. "My dad, mom's got a new family. Doesn't want anything to do with us." He sounded like he was past caring.

Earl spoke up. "What about your parents Elise, we know Sean's dad is in the navy."

Sean watched as she made a face. He'd only met her parents once when they were twelve, her mom was a nice woman, but she took a bullet for a teammate a year later. He went to the funeral with her and held her as she cried. Her dad was a grade a asshole that never wanted kids, spent the whole funeral drunk making shitty comments. She never talked about them after her mother died.

"Both parents, dad's stationed in Iraq I think but mom's been dead for a few years. Took a bullet for someone else." She left out that she wasn't on speaking terms with her dad. "You gotta be proud of her."

She smiled. "I am, she was the sweetest mother I could have asked for."

Han watched curiously, he felt like it wasn't the whole truth and when the others decided to play some soccer he decided to ask her about it. "Why did you move with Sean to Japan?" He leaned against the same place he had been when he and Sean talked. Elise sat on the steps beside it.

"Sean is the closest family I have, I don't think he knows that though. Nowhere else to go really, without him, I'm alone." There wasn't any self pity or the like. Just a tone that indicated that for Elise, it's the truth.

The words stung a little, but they were honest. Without him, I have no one. Han is quiet. I get up. "I'm going to play a little too. You coming?"

He shakes his head. "I'm good."

The next weekend the race between Sean and Morimoto held place.

Elise sat beside Han and Neela. Even if she missed the glances Takashi and Han were throwing at her Neela didn't. It had initially surprised her to see Takashi take interest in another girl but secretly she was happy that he started shifting attention off her to someone else. Even though it meant that Elise would end up having to choose between the guys interested in her.

The race started and soon everyone was moving to the elevators. Everyone wanted to see if the newbie drifter would beat Morimoto. Elise was sure Sean would win and wanted to see the cocky Japanese get his ass kicked by someone for once.

When Sean drifted up on the roof Takashi's mood soured. Without a look to Han he gave him the keys to the car he bet on the race.

Han smirked. "Pleasure doing business with you."

The whitehaired girl had already gone to congratulate her best friend. "I knew you'd win." She hugged him. "You can almost rival me now." She teased.

Shool passes by quickly and when it's over Sean gives me a ride to the usual place where he practices.

The two couches and chair is out already and the others are here. "You're getting better."

Sean smiles. "Thanks, I can give you a ride home later if you want."

I nod and plopp down on the couch beside Twinkie, taking the opportunity to get some homework done. And hopefully brush up on my Japanese beyond the standard.

A few hours, and a ton of homework, later Twinkie mutters. "Boy needs to chill."

I look up as Sean gets out of the car. "Hey Twink I'm gonna grab a new set." That got his attention. "Hey, woh oh oh oh. Another set? That was your third set today, man those tiers ain't cheap."

I ignore them and put my things on the table, the sound of cars coming closer made me look up in time to see four cars drive into the lot. In my peripheral I see Han get up as a pissed of Takashi steps out of the black one. "DK take a seat, we're about to roast some marshmallows." Takashi pushed past him and went straight to Sean.

Elise got up on her feet and stood nervously beside Han wondering what was going to happen. Her eyes widened and she flinched when the first hit reached her best friend's face.

Her first instinct was to try and help her best friend but Han held her back, gently pushing her behind him. "Don't." The whisper was quiet and bordering on harsh, enough to make her hesitate.

Takashi kept beating Sean when he was on the ground, it made her feel sick.

Takashi said something to Sean before getting up. The sight of Han keeping a protective arm around Elise pissed him off more. "Find yourself a new driver." Was the only thing he said before getting back into the car with his little group.

Once they were really gone Elise realized the death grip she'd had on Han's arm. Slowly letting go she could see the red marks made from her fingernails and guilt immidietly welled up.

Han shook his head, quietly telling her. "It's alright."

Reiko had gone over to Sean and helped him sit up.
Sean spit out some blood. "I'm alright." No one looked convinced.

Han shook his head. "What did you expect? You didn't just play with fire, you soaked the matches in gasoline."

The two girls forced Sean to sit still while Elise patched him up. "You really need to start being careful with who you're pissing of you know."

He attempted a smile. "I was never good at that."

She sighed. "I know. But please, you're the only family i have, I don't want to lose you just because you made a shitty decision."

Sean nodded and pulled her in for a hug. "I'll try to be careful."
