Chapter 19 Setlling the score

Third pov

Han had not shown up at the race. None of them wanted to take the risk.

Elise wasn't left by herself while they waited for the race to start. The one time Kamata had looked at her she had met his gaze head on. She wasn't afraid of him and she wanted him to know it.

Kamata was amused at the strong willed girls refusal to look weak. He could understand why she had caught his newphews attention. He briefly wondered if she was aware that Takashi was in love with her.

Elise wrapped her jacket harder around herself. It was a cold night and she really wished she was back in her own bed with her warmest blanket and some tea.

Her thoughts wandered to Han. She knew he didn't like not being able to come with but he also knew Kamata and Takashi would not react well to his presence.

"You okay, E?" She nodded and gave Earl a smile. "Yeah, is the race starting soon?"

The excited whispers around her was answer enough. They couldn't see the race from where they stood. If they wanted to see then they needed to watch on their phones. Elise felt like if she did watch she would just become nervous.

"Come on, Sean, you can do this."

After a few minutes she saw a car falling down the mountain side and for a terrifying few seconds she was back in the car with Han. Hanging upside down and in immense pain.

Reiko saw Elise go sheet-white. Her eyes were fixed on Takashi's messed up car. "Elise?" It took her touching the now sickly looking girls shoulder to get her attention.

"My arm hurts..." She mumbled as Reiko coaxed her away from the wrecked car and Takashi being escorted by his uncle's guards. She sent a look to Sean, who had just stepped out of his car, to come help.

Sean came over and gave her a hug. "We won. You're idea worked." He smiled. "We won."

After a short while she took a step back to let Neela approach.

Kamata caught her eye and gave a barely noticeable nod.

It was over. They didn't need to hide anymore.

Time skip

The garage was mostly dark as they pulled in.

Elise found Han in his room, holding the picture she had seen months ago.

"Sean won." He let her take one of his hands as she laid beside him. "We're safe."

For a while they laid there, Han unconsciously tracing shapes on her back as they both looked at the picture.

"Have I told you who they are?" He asked.

Elise shook her head.

"They're old friends of mine. Someday I would like for you to meet them." His thumb went over a buff guy. "That's Dom. I guess you could say he's the leader. Head of the family." Next he pointed to a dark haired woman holdin a child and a man smiling as he looks at them. "That's Mia, Dom's sister, and her husband Brian and their Son." He went on until he came to a beautiful woman that stood beside him in the photo. "That is Giselle. We- we had a relationship."

Elise pushed away the stab of jealously. "What happened?"

"There was a heist we were going to do. We were going to take a small chip worth a fortune, and take back Letty from Owen Shaw. She'd lost her memory and he took advantage of it. We ended up having to chase him on a plane." He sounded torn and his grip on Elise tightened slightly. "She died on tha plane."

He put the picture on the nightstand and wrapped his arms around Elise. "I never thought I could find someone again. At least no one I could see a future with." He chuckled. "And then you came into my life like a tornado. Beautiful with a fiery attitude and ready to do anything for the people you love." He went quiet and for a moment she thought he wouldn't say anything else.

"When we crashed. I was so sure I lost you. The memory of what you looked like when we got you out of the car is etched into my brain. For the first time ever you looked so small, so vulnerable and I thought I would need to go through the same grief again." He sighed and kissed the top of her head.

"You're my sunshine..."

From the next chapter things will start heating up, I'm not gonna say more than that.
