Fight or flight.

Fight or flight.

Fight or flight.

Fight.

"What do you want?"

The man has a pleasant smile. Like he's an old friend happy to see her.

"I just want to talk to you. I heard you're a friend of Han Seoul-Oh."

"I have no clue who you're talking about."

The smile doesn't fade. It just takes on a more predatory look. "Oh, I'm sure-"

"I'm sure you were just about to leave, or I'll have to call my uncle." Another man joined them.

This one Elise recognized.

Seeing him was like having a bucket of ice water dumped over her. At least memory wise.

"Takashi."

He stood right beside her. "I see you still have a talent for wandering into trouble, Elise." He turned his head back to the other man. "Tell me, do you really want my uncle to know you're on his territory."

Elise felt out of her comfort zone as she watched the two men looking at each other.

Finally, the first guy backed off.

"Very well, I'll be seeing you."

It hadn't hit her how tense she'd been until the man was out of sight. Takashi put his arm around her shoulders and started leading her towards her car.

"I'm going with you to the garage. Do you mind?"

"No."

He put the groceries in the backseat for her before getting into the passenger seat. "I'm guessing you have questions."

"That's an understatement. Who was that?"

"Kane Watanabe. He's an old associate of Han's."

"When you say that, do you mean a good friend or did he pull the same thing he did with you?"

She could feel his eyes burning into the side of her head. "Your friends told you about that?"

"Not everything." She admitted. "Neela talks about you sometimes, and they told me about the crash, but I do remember you. At least to a certain extent."

Takashi let out a hum. "How much do you remember?"

She had to think a little harder at that question. "I met your uncle, you were there when Han and I crashed." She turned off to another street. "You're a nicer person than you want to let on. And at some point, you had feelings for me."

He chuckled. It sounded both amused and just a tad bitter. "I wasn't the only one. But I suppose Han did give a better first impression."

Her mind did a record scratch and she pulled into an open parking. Thankfully they were the only car there.

Takashi had grabbed onto the door at the sudden turn and looked at her with a surprised expression.

"Say that again."

"That your first impression of Han was better?"

It was the first time she could remember seeing him confused.

"Me and Han?-"

"Are dating. Unless you broke it off, because I highly doubt he would break up with you."

Elise's mind blue screens.

She's dating Han.
She's been dating him for a long time.
And neither Han nor anyone else felt the need to tell her this.

Realization is dawning on her passengers face. "They didn't tell you."

"No. No they didn't." She runs her fingers through her hair.

Takashi sighs. "I can't say I know why, but after we get there you can always ask."

Takashi wonders just what the hell Han has been doing for the last few months and what he's been thinking.

"Are you okay to drive?"

Elise is still running her fingers through her hair. A stress response, he guessed. "Yeah."

They drove in silence for a while before she spoke.

"You've mellowed out."

She's right and he knows it. "Yeah, my uncle made it clear that I needed to grow up or face the consequences."

And hadn't that had been a fun conversation?

"We're here." Elise parked in her spot outside and got out to get the groceries. "Come on."

The garage had gotten a glow up after the last time he'd been there. Probably for the best since he knows that a lot got broken in the haste to get away.

"Han!"

Han stood by a car together with another man. A customer by Takashi's guess.

Han motioned for them to wait.

"I'll go put these away." Elise left with the bags.

It didn't take long for his former friend to finish up and make his way over. "What's wrong?"

"Kane tried to corner her after she was done shopping." Takashi said, figuring he'd get straight to it.

Trying to analyze Han's facial expression didn't do him anything good. "I thought you'd tell her about them. Maybe not a lot, but enough so she'd be prepared. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since, apparently, you haven't told her you two are in a relationship either."

*****************************************************
Elise didn't join Takashi and Han in talking. Instead she stayed in the kitchen until she heard Takashi leaving. She did feel a little bad for not going out to say goodbye, but she needed some time to sort through her thoughts.

She'd talk to him later.

Right now, she'd avoid Han until she couldn't because the conversation they would inevitably have about certain things that had not been told to her, well, it was not likely to be a pleasant conversation.

This has take me a long time. I'm so sorry about that!
