Third pov

Days passed slowly for the young woman. Too slow in her opinion.

She'd looked through her phone several times. Contacts, social media, photos, hell, even search history.

And nothing.

Nada.

She couldn't remember a damn thing.

It made her frustrated. And even if there was no way she would admit it, it made her sad.

Sean came and visited often. Others did too but he was here the most. She had pictures of all of them.

The only one in the pictures she never got a visit from was a black haired man that she felt some familiarity with.

There wasn't many pictures with him in them. A few group photos and two of him and one of the two of them together.

They looked so happy.

So, why wouldn't he visit? Unless he's an ex maybe...

"Hey, you okay?" Twinkie peaked into the room.

"Hi Twinkie." She put her phone down.

Twinkie entered with a take-out bag. "Figured you'd be sick of the hospital food by now."

The twenty year old was happy to take the subway sandwhich that was handed to her. "Thank you!" She started eating.

Twinkie laughed. "Slow down, I got soda too." He handed it to her.

She practically inhaled her sandwich before opening the soda and taking a few sips.

The two sat in silence as he finished his own sandwich.

"So, uh, how are you guys doing?"

Twinkie shrugged, not much had happened in truth. "We're doing good. There's not much to do, really. How've you been doin in here?"

Elise took another sip of her soda. "Good as I can be, I guess. They say that they're letting me go soon."

"That's good. You going back to your apartment or staying in the garage?"

Elise shrugged. She couldn't remember where her apartment was and she couldn't remember the garage.

She could see guilt flicker over Twinkies face and she shook her head. "You don't have to feel guilty, you didn't do this."

He sighed. "I know, but after everything..." He shrugged helplessly. "You're family, it's hard when family is hurt."

Elise could feel her eyes water. She swallowed. "Thank you. For caring. This would've been infinitely worse if I'd had no one."

Twinkie switched topics. "Have they figured out if you're getting your memories back?"

"Nope, they've gone through alternatives for why I can't remember anything, but the only thing they can conclude is that after several hits to the head, my brain decided to repress my memories to protect my brain while it heals."

"So either they come back -"

"Or they don't."
*****************************************************************

Twinkie squeezed her hand. "Like I said, you're family. We're here for you. Memories or not."

He still felt guilty.

He wanted things to go back to normal. After everything the last year they deserved their normal, Elise deserved it. But no. A drunk driver took that from her, from Han, from them.

"Can I ask you something?"

Twinkie was pulled from his thoughts. "Yeah, go ahead."

Elise took out her phone and showed him a picture with Han on it. Twinkie remembered when it'd been taken.

They had been chilling in the garage a few days before the race between Sean and Takashi. Han and Elise had sat down on the couch, her laying on her back across his lap and they'd been talking about something while she'd been taking pictures of the others with her phone.

When Han had asked what she was doing she took one of him too.

"Who is he?" Elise looks nervous. Like she doesn't expect him to answer.

"It's Han. He's one of us. Do you remember him?" He doesn't expect her to say yes. Hopes, sure. But it's still a surprise when she gives a shy nod.

"Kinda. He's familiar."

Twinkie wants to jump up and down and scream in happiness. This is more than they'd gotten since Elise woke up.

"I can ask him to visit if you want." He offers.

She shruggs. "He can visit if he wants to."

It's not an outright yes or no. But he'll take it.
