i've mentioned some youtubers in this book that i do in fact no longer suppo...
"Look guys. Annie's actually taking notes. Why are you such a square?" Hayden says. There are some chuckles from the back of the class.
"I don't know. Why are you such an ass?" I say without looking up or really reacting at all.
"Oooo" I hear from basically every person in the room.
"What's your problem? You used to be cool. Now you're just some weird quiet freak." He scowls.
"Hayden, chill out. Why do you have to be so mean?" I hear a voice from the table behind me. That's the popular girl table though, so that doesn't make sense. I must just be hearing things. The last thing I need is schizophrenia. I look over my shoulder anyway.
"Oh, don't tell me you're standing up for her, Jayden. You can't deny that she's a freak."
"Hayden, why do you care? We're not even friends. You're just a jerk."
The teacher comes back in so we all get quiet. We finish the movie and leave that class with no homework, thank God.
"Hey," I hear someone behind me. But it's me, so I don't think anything of it.
"Hey, Annie!" Well that doesn't sound like Katie. I turn around and see Jayden.
"Me?" I ask, shocked.
"Yeah."
"This is some sort of trap, right?" I'm genuinely asking. What else would it be?
"Uh, no? I just wanted to make sure you're okay?"
"Me? Never. Thanks though" I don't use my usual sarcastic tone, but that still could have been nicer. I walk away before she can say anything else.
"What did Jayden just say to you?" Katie grabs my arm. Her thought process can go two ways right now. Either she thinks I'm being "bullied" and wants to fight my battle, or she thinks I'm making another friend and I'm gonna become a completely different person and I'll finally be happy again. The next time I'm happy I'll be dead. Emo, I know, but at least I'll be with my brother. That's the only way.
"I don't know. Hayden was being a dick in class and she thinks I'm weak I guess. She wanted to know if I was okay."
"Well what did you say back??"
"The truth."
"Which is.."
"Of course I'm not okay. That particular incident didn't affect me, but in the long run I'm obviously not."
"You don't even care that Jayden Bartels just talked to you?" I look up as if I'm in deep thought.
"Nope." I shake my head.
"Okay then." She pulls me to math.
The rest of my day is pretty boring. I hear some phones go off all at once in Spanish class and I see Katie get that look in her eye. Hm, wonder what that could mean.
"Please silence your phones, guys." Mrs. Alvarez looks up from her desk. I don't know why it matters, we have a free day. I click the notification.

"Shh! My identity isn't mentioned on the page for a reason. I don't know. I thought it could be a cool way for people to make friends." She says slyly.
"Don't get any more specific." I roll my eyes.
"Annie, please. Just try it out. For me!"
"I'm actually fine with how life is going right now."
"That is the biggest lie I've ever heard."
"Same here, but I'm good with it."
"Well then I'm just gonna take that.." she grabs my phone out of my hand.
"Katie give it back."
"Hold on just changing your life for the better give me a second."
"Give it back now."
I'm too lazy to cause a scene.
"Here. Now that wasn't hard was it?" She hands it back to me.
"No, it really was very difficult."
