Chapter 32

-Annie's POV-
"Bye honey. Have fun!" My mom says as I step out of the car onto Jayden's driveway.

I take a deep breath while I look in the window. People talking and laughing and smiling. I know that mood will flatline as soon as I walk in. I'm sure no one wants me there.

      I open the door and it feels like all eyes are on me. Jayden stands up with her arms out.

      "Heyyy!" She greets me with a big hug.

      "I already hate this." I whisper in her ear. She sighs.

      "Come on, you're gonna have fun. Relax." She pulls me into the living room and I sit down next to her.

      Lauren, Katie, Kenzie, and Sky all greet me and I stay silent by Jayden's side.

      "Annie, come here." Lauren pulls me by the arm.

"Um, okay?"

We stop in front of two blonde girls who are talking to eachother.

"Guys, this is Annie." She gestures toward me.

"Hi, I've seen you around! I'm Emily. This is Lilia." The one on my left points to the other with a bright smile.

"Cool." I say flatly.

"We were just talking about how shitty people are these days. Like, maybe instead of throwing trash in the ocean you can shove it up your ignorant ass." Lilia chuckles.

"Damn, I think I can vibe with you." I respond.

"Um, I'm gonna go. You guys good over here?" Lauren asks. I have a feeling that last part was directed at me. I want to say no because I'm still a little anxious, but I see her focus directed at Hayden's dumb ass. Who am I to get in the way of love?

"Go get your boy." I smirk.

"If he breaks your heart we will all take part in beating his ass. Make sure he knows it." I pat her on the shoulder and she rolls her eyes before walking away.

I talk to Emily and Lilia some more and they actually are really cool. They both want to have a voice and change things in this shitty world.

"Okay guys, come on!" Jayden yells and we all sit down in a circle in the living room. Lauren sits next to Hayden, leaning on his shoulder. Bitch I kinda ship ngl🤠

"Really man? My fucking sister?" Johnny looks at his best friend and Kenzie, sitting next to John, stifles a giggle. I see Darius through the corner of my eye with his damn arm around Sky as well. Shit, they're all getting "boo'd up" or whatever the fuck. We need to get Katie a man.

"Okay, time for presents!" Jayden beams.

      "Bitch, you said we weren't doing presents! I didn't bring anything!" I whisper. She chuckles.

      "We aren't doing official presents yet. We just have a gift for you two." Sky points at Katie and I.

      Jayden hands us each a small box and we glance at eachother nervously.

I open my box to find a silver bracelet with a small heart dangling from the chain. I look over and Katie has the same.

"Where have I seen this?" She grins while holding it up. Lauren, Sky, Kenzie, and Jayden all pull up their sleeves.

"We all have one. It means that you're officially part of the squad. We'd do anything for you two."

"Wow, thank you. You guys are amazing. I couldn't ask for better friends." Katie flashes a warm smile.

Jayden looks at me nervously.

"What's up, Anns?" She nudges me.

I scratch my neck and chuckle.

"Damn, I'm about to sound dumb as hell but I guess I have to say it."

"Aww, come on, we wanna hear it. Speech, speech, speech!" Darius chants.

"Whatever. I never expected any of you to actually be nice people, and I'm still not sure if all of you are.." I pause and throw a glance at Hayden.

"But I sure as hell thought that none of you would ever want anything to do with me. Then I met Jayden, and I almost immediately felt weirdly safe. That's what you've been doing, Jay. You make me feel safe. I know I have a lot more growing to do but I think all of my new friends are going to help me with that. Thank you guys for accepting me, well, both of us. Katie was always right about you guys. It's amazing what some good friends can do." I say before cracking a small smile.

      Jayden pulls me into a side hug and everyone "aw"s around me.

      "Okay, enough of this sappy shit. It's time to have some fun!" I say, trying to take the attention away from myself.

      "Woo!"

      "Yeah!"
