-Annie's POV-
"When's Jayden coming over?" I ask, entering my parents' room .
"Aren't you the one who's supposed to know that?" My mom inquires.
"I guess. When should she come?"
"We're ready when she is."
"Okay. I'll text her."
Me- what time do you wanna come over
Jayden❤️- I'm good with whenever. What time is best?
Me- any time
Jayden❤️- I'll be over in 20-ish💗
Me- 😎
"She's coming over in like 20 minutes."
"Cool. Make sure the house looks remotely presentable."
I head up to my room and I put on my Rad Horror record and stare at the ceiling. I need to get a hobby.
Shouting. Lots of it.
My damn parents are fighting again.
Maybe that's why they chose my Christmas gift. So I can tune them out. So I can tune everything out.
I close my eyes and think about positive things.
Jay, Katie, Lauren, Sky, Kenzie. That's it. All of my happiness is within my relationships with other people. That's probably a bad idea but I need to keep myself from spiraling like I used to. Me last week would say something about how they're all gonna leave me soon and I'll be alone again, but me now is just going to say that I've found the right people and I've made genuine connections that will last.
I hear my door open and the voices are louder for just a moment before the door is closed and they are muffled once again. I sit up and see my little sister standing vulnerably by the door. I sigh and scoot over on my bed for her to lay next to me.
"Why do they fight all the time? Don't they love each other??"
"The thing about love is that it's scary. You'll never be able to know exactly what's going on in someone else's head, so you just have to trust that they love you back."
"Okay, so?" I hear her small voice and put her hand in mine.
"So I cant lie to you and tell you that I know what they feel and if they love each other. I think they do, but I don't know it. But I do know that they love us. Okay?"
"I guess." She shrugs.
I give her a small hug and she goes back to her own bedroom.
....
I see a car pull up through the window and I race downstairs. First impressions are the most important. Jayden can't come into my home for the first time and get bombarded by my nosy mother or something.
I open the door and see her carrying her stuff up the walkway.
"Hey!" She says as I step out and grab her backpack.
"How was your Christmas?" I ask when we get inside and close the door behind us.
"It was good. Mom was off work of course, which was nice. I got mostly a lot of makeup and clothes and stuff. How was yours?"
"Cool. I mean mine was good I guess. I got a record player which is awesome."
"That's so cool. I can't wait for you to see what I got you!" She beams.
"Same. But we should save the best for later. Come on." I turn toward the stairs when my dad comes out of the bathroom.
"Is this Jayden?" He smiles widely.
I sigh deeply.
"Mhm. Jayden, this is my dad. Okay, bye!" I flash a fake smile and dash up the stairs.
"Um, nice to meet you." Jayden says before following me.
"Sorry about that. I told everyone to stay out of my business, but when has any one of them ever listened to me?" I sigh once we reach the top of the stairs.
"It's fine. Your dad seems cool." She smiles.
"You're not a good liar." I chuckle.
"....So what do you want to do?" I ask quietly.
"I don't know. Today feels like a chill day. Let's just watch Netflix and do face masks and stuff."
"That sounds perfect." I say before grabbing my TV remote.
