-Annie's POV-
Hayley cleans her plate and goes upstairs. As I turn to do the same, I hear my dad call my name from the living room.

      "What now?" I sigh.

"Can you please actually talk with your sister about this? I don't think either of you would prefer to go through this alone." I know he means well, but the request alone just makes me feel like he doesn't trust me.

"I will. Goodnight." He pats my shoulder and I leave the room. I pass by my sister's door, stop, and take a few steps backward to face it. I guess I should get this over with? I knock three times.

"Come in." Hayley's small voice passes through the door. I turn the handle and step inside to see her laying in bed staring at the ceiling. I step closer and see small tear stains on her face. I flop down next to her.

Do I say something or do I just lay here next to her? No fucking clue.

"Wanna talk?" I say, turning to my side to face my sister.

"About what? We already talked about this. They still love us and we still have each other and all that bullshit." I widen my eyes for a moment at her choice of language as she wipes her face with her sleeve.

"Don't act like you don't say it all the time." She rolls her eyes.

"Well I would say that it's okay for me to say it because I'm older, but I guess you're pretty grown up too for your age." I shrug.

"What do you mean? I feel pretty eleven."

"I don't know. I just know that you're gonna be able to handle all of this. That's pretty mature if you ask me."

She sits up. Okay, great. Time for the real conversation. I do the same and sit across from her.

I wait for her mouth to open, but it doesn't happen. She just stares at her hands for a few minutes before finally speaking.

"Why are you acting so normal? Don't you care? Isn't everything going to be different now?"

"I don't know. I mean, I of course saw it coming. And..." I pause.

"...Not everything's gonna change. I know I said it before, but we'll still have each other, we'll still have our parents, and they'll still love us. Hey, maybe with more room in the house we can get a dog." I smile. She chuckles.

"Okay. But what are we going to do about who we're living with?"

"Where do you want to go? I know this might sound stupid, but I don't want to lose you, even if we still live near each other." I say.

"I don't know. I don't want to lose you either, Annie. You're my big sister."

"I guess I don't care which parent I spend most of my time with, since I find them both moderately annoying. Who do you want to stay with?" I say, a pointless method of just throwing the same question right back at her.

"Should we just stay with Mom?"

"Okay. Just, think about it a little. I want you to be 100% sure." I stand up and step toward the door.

      "Annie?"

      "Yes?" I turn back around.

"Do you think this would be happening if Caleb was here?"

      I sigh.

"We'll never know the answer to that. Just get some rest and try not to think about it. Love you."

"Love you. Goodnight." She lays back down and I leave the room.
