-Annie's POV-
"Are you sure you're okay, sweetheart? You don't usually get this upset when you throw up." My mom says as we get into her car."I'm fine."
"...You know, you could have just called me yourself and told me you were upset. It's your first day back after break, it doesn't matter that much if you're there or not. In fact, how about we go get your sister and have a girls day?" Okay, so my mom is on drugs, cool. Seriously. Where is this attitude from?
"I mean I would really rather be alone-"
"Come on, Annie! It'll be fun."
Ah, fun. Of course. She's trying to be the cool fun parent so Hayley and I choose to stay with her. Whatever, I'll milk it.
"Fine." We drive to Hayley's school.
....
"What's wrong? Who died??" My sister asks as soon as she gets in the car.
"No one. Annie was feeling a little down, so I was just thinking that we should have a girls day!"
"Okay?" She raises an eyebrow.
"Just go with it." I mumble to her.
"So, where to, ladies?"
We settle on the mall. Woohoo.
We shop around, eat some greasy food court crap, and even take some pictures. For a while, I even forgot about the reason I'm not in school today. Should I get Jayden an "I'm sorry" gift? Even though I didn't really do anything wrong.
....
"Annie, did you talk to Jayden about the...thing?" Hayley asks while shutting the car door.
"Uh, yeah."
"How'd it go?"
"Hayley, maybe we can talk about it later." I say, hinting around that I don't want my mom to hear about "the thing".
"What are you girls talking about?" My mom slightly tilts her head, her eyes still focused on the road.
"Nothing." I roll my eyes.
"You know, Annie, I was a teenager once too. Maybe I could help." My mother beams.
"Really, mom? Are you a lesbian?" I ask sarcastically.
"...No. But I'm sure it can't be that different!"
"Fine." I sigh.
"S-someone...kissed me. And like, it wasn't Jayden. I swear I immediately ran away and i've only talked to her since to leave me alone." I defend myself.
"Wow. Well, I guess you said that Jayden knows. How did she take it?"
"This is weird. Never mind." I cross my arms and slouch down in my seat.
"Wait, Annie, is that why you were feeling down? Did you break up??" Hayley raises her voice.
My eyes water once again.
"Oh my God, Annie. I'm so sorry. You know, if she broke up with you for something you had no control over, she isn't worth it." My mom frowns.
"No! She didn't break up with me. She said she just wants to figure things out for a couple days. I just feel awful that it upset her. I don't want to cause her pain, like ever." I wipe my tears away.
"I promise she'll come around. If she's as special as you make her out to be, she'll understand that it's not your fault." My mom puts her hand on my shoulder as we approach the driveway.
