-Annie's POV-
"What do you guys do here?" I ask."Well, first we browse. Look through store windows and stuff." Kenzie starts.
"Yeah. We have to walk through the whole mall and take note of the stores we like and when we get to the far end we grab some Starbucks and then turn around and actually buy stuff." Lauren smiles.
"Quite a strategy." I nod. We all just stand there for a second and I see Jayden staring at me through the corner of my eye. Strange. There's probably a piece of fuzz in my hair or something.
"Well come on, guys!" Sky starts walking away and we all follow.
"What stores do you like, Annie?" Jayden nudges my elbow using her own.
"Um, none of them? I go shopping like twice a year. As you can see I don't really care what I'm wearing as long as it covers my privates, so, like, Target?" Lauren gasps.
"I've had to live with that answer all my life." Katie sighs.
"Oh, girl, we're changing that today. Come on." Jayden grabs my hand and we all start veering sideways into a store called H&M. Hayley shops here sometimes, but my mom has only forced me to go with them once or twice.
A/N: it's about to go full ST3 Max and Eleven vibes right now
"You don't seem like the dress-wearing type, but I'm not into that either." Sky starts talking to me.
"How often do you wear rompers?"
"I barely even wear shorts during the summer." I motion to my pants.
"Oh, so you do like skirts?" Kenzie asks.
"No...I don't wear anything but jeans and sweatpants." Jayden opens her mouth to suggest something, but I stop her.
"And I am content with that."
"Jeans aren't bad at all. They're probably the easiest thing to work with." Lauren says.
"Here, look at this." Jayden grabs a hanger that carries a short striped yellow shirt with a collar.
"That would be so cute on you!" Katie says and Sky nods.
"Um, I hate to break it to you, but I don't think this is the right section." I say quietly.
"What do you mean?"
"That shirt is tiny. It's for like a 7 year old." They giggle at my response.
"It's supposed to be short, silly! It's a crop top."
"Why would I want my midsection showing? Wouldn't I be cold? Wouldn't that give Hayden and his little ICP another reason to harass me?"
"What does ICP mean?" Lauren asks.
"It's a band. Insane Clown Posse. They're relatively well known for having mostly bad music. My point is that they're all stupid ass clowns." I sigh.
"Do they do that a lot? Hayden and his friends, I mean."
"Oh yeah, of course you guys saw that one time in history."
"I miss everything in that class! What happened?" Katie asks, concerned.
"Hayden made fun of me for doing my work because he's too illiterate to do his. Nothing big." I roll my eyes and continue.
"It isn't usually like that. Him and his little friends usually just make inappropriate remarks toward me because they want to get in my angry, depressed pants. I guess my attitude about life makes me more vulnerable." I shrug.
"That's awful. Isn't that, like, sexual harassment?" Lauren says.
"Yeah. I'm not worried. It's just verbal. They're all pussies. Every single one. All talk."
"Okay, but if anything ever happens, we're here." Sky puts her hand on my shoulder. A moment of silence passes.
"Please try it on? I promise, you'll look so hot."
"That sounds more like a way to convince me not to wear it, but fine. Whatever." I grab the hanger and sigh once more. They follow me into the spacious dressing room, Lauren picking up a dress for herself on the way. We get into our stalls and the others wait outside.
I pull my baggy shirt over my head and throw on the other.
I feel fat. I feel like every other slutty girl in that goddamn school. I feel like I'm losing myself. This isn't me. I spend 20 minutes with all these girls I barely know and I'm already changing myself?
