I wake up to silence.
My whole body is sore. I don't want to move.
I close my eyes again and fall back asleep.
" Come in. " I say softly as I hear someone knocking.
The door opens, and Clint comes in. " Hey, kid. "
" Hi. "
" How are you? " He asks.
I shrug but wince. " It hurts. A lot. I feel like daggers are stabbing me. "
He sighs and frowns. " I'll get Bruce to get you some meds for the pain. I hope you get better. "
" Thanks. " I sigh and stare straight ahead.
" Tonight, we're leaving to go to shield. You need to pack when you feel better. The other kids are coming tomorrow. "
" Okay. Thanks, Clint. " He nods and leaves.
A few minutes, later, Bruce comes in with water and medication.
" Thanks, Bruce. " He nods and leaves.
After a few minutes, the medicine kicks in, and I feel better. Still a little sore, but better. I get up and groan. It's Thursday. Shoot! I'm supposed to be in school!
" Are you okay Aura? " I hear Jarvis ask.
" Yeah. I was just thinking about school. "
" Mr. Starks excused you from class today. "
" Thanks. " I get up and look at my mirror. I have a swollen, black eye, and a few bruises on my face.
I pull out some clothes and start to fold. I fit them in my suitcase, along with an extra pair of shoes, and a book.
I grab my make up case off of the bathroom counter. I look inside and pull out everything. it's all-new. I got it last year from Mia. I know it's a silent message, telling me, I need to start wearing some. I haven't worn it before though.
Well, maybe once before. For a kindergarten program. Natasha did my make up. I've watched the girls put on makeup when we have a girls' day. I mostly sit in the corner and watch. I'm not really interested in makeup or anything they do, so I just stay out of the way.
I cover my bruises, so I look somewhat presentable.
I slip on a black hoodie and blue jeans. I put my messy hair into a ponytail, and walk outside to eat breakfast.
Every head turns to me, as I walk in. I blush and look down. " Morning. " I mumble as I walk by everyone.
Mia crinkles her nose as I walk by. I sigh and grab a bowl of cereal. I pull my hood of the hoodie put.
I eat quietly, as the others chat amongst themselves.
I sat farther away from everyone.
The stools next to me make a sound as they're moved. Chase sits to my left, and Ryan to my right.
" Hi. " I say quietly to the boys.
I push my cereal around and frown.
Everyone must think I'm a weirdo now. I don't know how to control my powers. I embarrassed myself. I cried in front of everyone. I never cry in front of anyone. I yelled. I never yell. I must have scared everyone.
" What's wrong? " Chase's voice startles me.
" Oh, uh, nothing. I was just thinking. "
" You seem to do a lot of thinking. "
I nod. " It's all I have to do. I have no friends at school I can invite over, so I might as well think. "
Chase is quiet.
I get up and take my half-empty bowl over to the sink. " See ya guys. " I wave at everyone, as I leave.
" Dad, you said we're leaving tomorrow, but I already invited Maggie, and Cleo over tomorrow for a sleepover. Their parents already made plans. I can't bail on them now. " Mia says to her dad.
Those two are almost always over on weekends.
Tony sighs. " I'll talk to Fury. "
Mia smiles. " Thank you, daddy! " She jumps up and hugs him.
I bite my lip and wonder to my room.
We arrive at S.H.I.E.L.D. By we, I mean, the adults and I. Tony pulled me out of school today, tomorrow, and for the next few weeks. The other kids are also getting pulled out of school for the next few weeks.
I lift up my stuff, and the Avengers lead the way.
I get a big room, that I'm going to be sharing with Becca, Mia, and Mia's friends. Yay.
I turn on the TV, as I unpack my stuff.
When I finish, I sit on my bed and close my eyes. I imagine having my dad here with me. Having him be able to comfort me when I cry.
I imagine what it would be like now. We would be living at the palace, with grandfather.
I open my eyes and lay down. I fall asleep to the sound of the TV.
